Ahoy Mateys! I have absolutely loved getting to know you all so far! I see the limitless potential in you Key Clubbers and hope bring out the best in every single one of you. Now that it is summer, take advantage of free time and plan socials, fundraisers, and service events! I know a few clubs had some bonding socials at the beach! Have fun with it! Please read through the articles and grasp what the rest of the division is doing. You can even steal some ideas for the club you serve! Key Clubbers are usually very busy during school, so plan the year ahead to ease the workload later on! Also, don't forget to come to the Division events and Division Council Meetings! At the July DCM, we will be voting on the next Division T-shirt design. It will also be a joint Officer Training Conference with 19 South Beastie Bunnies so let's make sure we show them up!

Division Leadership Team LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR My name is Carolyn Kim. I am a rising senior at El Segundo High School and 17 years old. I am on the school's Tennis, Winterguard, and track & Field teams! I am not set on a college yet, but I am shooting for California or the East Coast. I need my ocean. :) I will probably major in a field of biology, but who knows? I might become an engineer! Key Club has shaped me into the person I am today, and as Lt. Governor I want to make sure as many people are positively influenced as me. Key Club gave me confidence and has helped me grow as a leader. My Key Club moment was at DCON 2012. I could not believe what a difference HIGH SCHOOL students could make. If you have not had that life-changing Key Club moment, be ready because you are in for a lot this year! :D

EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT "My name is Vivian Duong and I'm from Gardena Key Club. I will be a junior as of 2013-2014. I play tennis for my school. However, when I have free time, I play soccer or basketball. I also play the ukulele and the guitar. I must say, I am no professional though. I love to watch chick flicks and I love listening to country music. Most importantly, I love Key Club and I am filled with glee knowing that I am part of such a unique organization that contributes into making a difference within this world. I really look forward to working with Carolyn and the division board. It's an honor to serve the district and I'm really excited for my term. I'm also exhilerated to meet you all. I'm a very nice, approachable, and caring person. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me because I don't peck."

EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT Hey! I'm Maleko Bravo currently a 9th grader (but going into 10th) attending Da Vinci School of Science. I would say that I m very open and adventurous in a way, because I like trying new things and meeting new people. Some things that I like to do are hanging out with friends, going to the beach, going to the mall, etc. I NEVER like being at home because I think that is boring and there is a world to see! I m very focused about school and I would like to major in Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering. I would also like to go to UC Berkley or MIT or UCLA in the future (I don't know what college yet, but you have an idea). Yeah.... So if you want to know ANYTHING about me just ask!:)

MAY CAMS: Towards the end of May, CAMS Key Club attended the Redondo Beach Cleanup alongside the CAMS National Honor Society. Four of our members headed down to the beach in an effort to make the world a cleaner place, one beach at a time. After we had finished cleaning the beach, a bonding session with NHS was held, allowing the members to get closer to one another, and with another club.

LAWNDALE: During the Month of May, Lawndale Key Club has only planned and attended one event. The event was on Big Sunday May 04th 2013 from 9:00am to 1:00pm at Peary Middle School in Gardena. We helped Peary Middle school by landscaping a wildlife Habitat. We were working in their garden digging up dirty, planting flowers, raking leaves, trimming plants, and cleaning their pond.

GARDENA: One of the many service events that our members attend was sorting out can foods at our local food bank, at our community center the Nakaoka. On average four to five members attend the event, being that it’s a small room. There we helped sort out nine-thousand pounds of can foods that were collected at the local United States Postal Service.

EL SEGUNDO: El Segundo High School Key Club has had a busy month this May. Following tradition, we participated in the annual El Segundo Recreation Park’s Hometown Fair this year. Instead of our normal face painting booth, however, we tried something new this year and opted for our very first snow cone booth. It was a great success. Not only did all the members love participating, the fair-goers loved our snow cones. The members had the opportunity to participate in every step of the snow cone making process from crushing the ice to molding the ice in the perfect shape of a snow cone to dousing the ice with colorful flavors. We were happy to see that our snow cones

sold extremely fast and there was even a line to buy snow cones by the middle of the day. We could not make them fast enough and granted we did run out of ice several times. Managing a busy booth was hectic at times, but it was also a fun experience running back and forth from cars to the booth carrying in our hands several heavy ice bags. Undeniably, this was a great learning opportunity for our next snow cone booth which we are already planning to set up at El Segundo’s Fourth of July Fair. And the icing on the cake was that we made $600. All in all, it was a great experience and we cannot wait for our next snow cone booth in July!

Month of

JUNE CAMS: In the month of June, our club was focused primarily on our annual fundraiser, ribbon leis. In preparation for graduation, CAMS Key Club creates ribbons leis to sell during senior graduation on the 12th. Each member is given ribbon to lanyard into lei necklaces, which are each topped off with a ribbon flower. This is the largest fundraiser that CAMS Key Club holds every year, bringing in about $700 for the club. This year at graduation alone we raised $610 for our club. We hope to be able to raise more money by continually selling the extra leis at other graduations. On the 8th of June, CAMS Key Club attended yet another beach cleanup, this time at Long Beach. Three of our members attended this event, cleaning up the dirty sand and murky waters. On the 28th of this month we will be helping at a local fireworks stand in Carson as a way to serve our community, and raise money for the club. On the 7th of June our key club held its last meeting of the year. During this meeting we were accompanied by our fellow Circle K of CSUDH. At our last meeting the members talked about what they enjoyed about Key Club and also what they took out of it. At the end of the meeting we had a potluck. Although the school year is over, service never stops, and CAMS Key Club can’t wait for a summer full of service.

LAWNDALE: During the month of June we have attended one Volunteering event. On Sunday June 9th at 5am- 11am there was an event held at Veterans Park in Redondo Beach called Redondo Triathlon. As volunteers of that event we helped set up tables, chairs, and bike racks. Then we helped pass out paper, food, and water. We were then assigned to stay at a spot and guide Triathlon participants down the right path towards the finish line.

HMSA: The main event HMSA was involved during the month of May was Ramona Elementary summer festival. It was the best community service ever where there was even a dunk tank. Seeing the joy in each elementary students face was intriguing. The teachers there getting dunked were extremely funny and made it a blast for the students as well. The Ramona Elementary school was even kind enough to give us free food for our hard work. HMSA can't wait to become even more involved and complete more community service hours!

CAMS:

19North. Throughout the month, she has attended every meeting and is up to date with the latest Key Club news. Due to her devotion to Key Club that the other members have noticed, she is the member of the month for May.

Anna Nguyen (Gardena)

SERVICE Hawthorne:

Two very dedicated members of CAMS Key Club have certainly stood out this month of May. Genesia Ting and Lujing Cen, both freshmen, have attended all meetings and projects this past month with tons of excitement! As new members, the club has seen them grow not only with more service, but also with leadership. Lujing has been an asset at board meetings with his input as Webmaster. Genesia also offers constant help (especially her artistic skills) with Key Club activities. These two are caring, kind, and awesome, and the club is proud to have them as Members of the Month.

El Segundo:

Our member of the month was Desire Araya, shes been one of the highly praised members for Key Club. When volunteers were needed for many of our events, she was always one of the first ones to sign up. She had even went to some of the DCM's and signed up to get pie thrown at her. She is a member that we could count on for going to events, and giving up her weekend to help the community out. By being highly active in Hawthorne's Key Club she has received up to 40 hours this semester which is above the average hours that our members must have. This has proven to our club that her dedication has earned her the spot to be member of the month. Lastly, this is how much we appreciate having such a high spirited young lady like Desire Araya.

LEADERSHIP Gardena:

Our member of the month is Eddie Nguyen. Eddie has been an active member of Key Club recently. He had participated in many events and had helped out plenty in the community. From storing canned foods to watering the plants of our club adopted park. What made him stand out was his commitment to events and excitement he has in him. The boy is full of joy.

For the month of May, the El Segundo High School Key Club chose Paulette Mumar as the member of the month. Throughout the month, she has displayed dedication to the club and interest to improve the club. On the Hometown Fair that occurred on May 4, 2013, she volunteered and helped the club booth throughout the whole event. Her attitude and behavior is commemorable and due to her help, the snow cone booth was a huge success. In addition to her huge interest in Key Club, she was also elected as the News Editor for the Division Leadership Team for
