February is the month of love, and Key Clubbers showed their love of service through various projects. As Key Clubbers of a math and science school, the club kicked off the month at a Regional MathCounts competition hosted by Northrop Grunman. A group showed up early in the morning to help proctor the exams, keeping a watchful eye over the Mathletes as they crank out answers to complicated math problems. Because of a shortage of Northrop Grunman volunteers, the administrators were happy to have energetic high schoolers retrieve and pass out tests to the room full of middle schoolers. CAMS Key Clubbers ended the day by making their presence known, showing how they felt with a spirited cheer that echoed through the large cafeteria where the competition was held. With Valentine's Day approaching, Key Clubbers made beautiful cards with National Honors Society for the local VITAS hospice center patients. Each card was lovingly handmade by a member and included a sweet message decorated by hearts and other Valentine-related pictures. The cards were happily and gratefully accepted by the office and were delivered to the patients on Valentine's Day. To raise funds for quickly approaching DCON, the club took advantage of the school's upcoming Sadie Hawkins dance and Valentine's Day and sold Matchmaker results during Club Rush. Students were to eager to find out their results, and were entertained by their "perfect" matches. In one day, we made over $500. Not everyone had a chance to purchase their results, so the club will continue to sell results for the remainder of the month.

For this past month Gardena’s biggest project was our McDonald’s Night Fundraiser. On February 7th, 2012 Gardena Key Clubbers worked both behind the counter, and outside selling cookies to raise as much money as possible. We were given $170 worth of cookies to sell and we as a club came together with over 20 members to raise funds. As cookies came out of the oven I handed them to groups of members, by the time I handed everyone their cookies and the board was going to go out to sell cookies the members came back for more and more cookies. I was very proud of the members who worked at this event. Members flagging down cars and stopping people who where exiting the stores and their cars just to ask if they would buy cookies to support Key Club. Also to the members who worked behind the counter, and got to experience why they would not like to work at a fast food restaurant. Overall the whole experience was great and the fundraiser was a success. Gardena Key Club was able to raise over $400 to help cover the cost of District Convention. I was very proud of my club and I was excited that we got to raise a good amount of money for DCON.
