SERVICE RecaP Despite a long and hot summer break, CAMS Key Club still provides many opportunities for its members to participate in! Beginning on June 28th and ending July 4th, many members volunteered at the CAMS fireworks stand a block from the school. At the stand, we wore Uncle Sam outfits, waved flags to advertise, and kept inventory of the fireworks sold. Because of the many service hours put in from Key Clubbers, the CAMS organization in charge of the stand will donate a portion of the profit to Key Club. The following Saturday, July 7th, six members volunteered at the San Pedro Math Science Technology Center to help plant dahlias donated from the American Dahlia Society. It was a hot and pretty dirty day, but the center provided cold water and activities, such as viewing the many animals that reside there, which made the project even more enjoyable. The service never stops! On July 14th, Key Clubbers met at Long Beach with the CleanLB Organization to pick up any trash alone the shore. CleanLB even provided its volunteers with organic fruit from their sponsor, WholeFoods. CAMS Key Club is definitely having fun in the sun!

As the first and only full month of official summer, El Segundo Key Club has taken a brief hiatus from any organized community service events. But despite having our members (as well as officers) soaking up the sun, traveling around the world or even preparing to sing in London and attend the Summer Olympic Games with the high school choir, we expect to return back energized and even more ecstatic about doing some community service projects! Although there are no projects that the club has committed to for this month, we do have several members who have taken it upon themselves to serve on their own time. Some of these projects include making chronic visits to the LA food bank, as well as doing laundry in homeless shelters. We also have a member (who wishes to remain anonymous) who volunteers regularly at their local YMCA as a counselor and has already worked over 80 hours! The board of the El Segundo Key Club would like to congratulate this exceptional member who is clearly dedicated to serving their community! The El Segundo Key Club board plans to meet towards the end of the month to regroup and finish planning events for this oncoming fall semester. We currently have a few projects in mind and are discussing the possible socials! El Segundo is looking forward to a new and more active way to serve the community and cannot wait!

Hello Pirate Penguins!! Here's our update from the Hawthorne Math and Science Academy Key Club. Due to many members going on vacation including the officers we haven't been extremely active in club activities except those that were summer commitments to friendship circle e.i. the camps. However, I'm proud to report that as individual philanthropists, HMSA's Key Club members have kept up with their own type of community service at churches and other organizations. As soon as the school year starts we well certainly be on track as a club and continue to provide service for our community and any other that requires our diligent help.

-Elane Marroquin HMSA

For the month of July, Leuzinger Key Club helped the Kiwanis booth selling fireworks. The event took place on June 3, and we were there from 10am until 2pm. Unfortunately, we were not 18, so we weren’t able to physically sell fireworks in the booth. Therefore we passed out flyers advertising the fireworks and advertised the fireworks with a banner. It was fun sharing key club experiences and bonding with former key clubbers.

- Leanna Tran Leuzinger

For the month of July, our club only participated in volunteering to help out the Kiwanis fireworks stand on July 4th. It was fun helping them attract customers to buy fireworks from us. Even though we only had a few members show up, we did as much as we could to shout, so that people would stop by to buy some fireworks. We have a bake sale planned to be taking place in a few weeks from now, but that's all we have for the month of July. On July 4th we had a small community service project. Since it was on a national holiday -Ryan Lieu and a weekday only two members were able to Lawndale attend. We worked at the Lawndale/Torrance Kiwanis fireworks booth. We did community service for two hours. During those two hours we were there with two other key club members that are a part of the Gardena Key Club. We bonded with them and had fun on that hot summer day.

MEMBER OF THE MONTH

El Segundo’s July Member of the Month was Stephanie Nemhe. She has been volunteering this whole summer at the St. Anthony’s elementary and middle school summer camp. She volunteers every nine to ten hours every week. Stephanie loves helping younger children and truly enjoys helping out at her former school. She shows her enthusiasm to the children every day. Stephanie is an example to all El Segundo’s Key Clubbers to stay involved with the community even during the summer months. Her service inspires others to volunteer all year round. Thanks for being the perfect example Stephanie!

Summer is really heating up and I'm sure everyone is having a blast on their breaks. It's hot hot hot, but our members are not forgetting to give back to our community. It's a hot July and Malia Wong once again showed the true dedication of a Key Clubber. Malia, since the beginning of summer break has been showing a significant amount of dedication as she's been going to most events even if it's time for summer vacation. She's been working really hard and our board sure does appreciate her love for our club and our community. What a wonderful passion she's showing! That is what I call a spirited Pirate Penguin! Thank you Malia and we hope you continue being a role model for all of us. Enjoy your break lovely Pirate Penguins! <3 <3 <3

I don't think it'll come as a shock to anyone that Elane Marroquin is being recognized as July's Key Club Member of the Month. In the short time that she's been president, she's shown that she has what it takes to make our club successful. Even while vacationing with her family across the country, she still attends to her presidential duties. She has proven that, with her as our president, our Key Club will be in good hands for this upcoming school year.

King/Drew's member of the Month of July is Arturo Gomez. He was the only non-officer that attended the June DCM. This shows his commitment to Key Club.

This month Leuzingers Key Club recognizes Jose Navarijo as our member of the month. Jose has incorporated himself in events that expand past key club. He has been an outstanding member And proves himself to be very dedicated. He has completed over 15 hours of community service this month and has been on his toes with volunteering along with brainstorming new ideas for out club.
