Spotlight on Service Event Ideas To keep our environment clean and healthy, members can clean up their local parks and neighborhoods. For those who would prefer a more safe and socially distanced option, gather resources and information about the enviorment and how to keep it clean for a video conference on zoom. Hosting educational workshops is helpful for spreading awareness.

Service Ideas For some service ideas, members may plant flowers in their local parks or neighborhood. Another option may be giving flowers to a senior home. Another social distance option can be creating graphics. Members can create graphics that spread environmental awareness and topics such as climate change and pollution. Along with graphics, members can spread awareness through creating educational videos.

Fundraiser Ideas

An option for fundraisers that are enviormental friendly are to collect and sell cans and bottles from a local park or community area. The profit from the cans and bottles can be donated to any charity of choice. Another option is to have a pennies for chairty competition within memebers. It can be a competition between members to see who turns in the most coins or fills up their jars first. Spotlight on Service | 7

The May DCM was a joint event with Division 7 South and Divisions 27 North and South. The event was hosted and led by the Lieutenant Governors Hailey Phan, Kristen De Jesus, and Sammi Le. The Lieutenant Governors discussed the MNT fundraiser before breaking into breakout rooms by home clubs. 9 tablespoons of lemonade were poured on any Lieutenant Governor of your choice for every $1 donated. Our Lieutenant Governor, Hailey Phan, went over May recognitions in our home club’s breakout rooms, including member, officer, faculty advisor, kiwanis advisor, and club of the month awards. Members and officers had the opportunity to participate in two service projects in the opening session. This would include doing chalk art promoting the Eliminate Project or making infographics about the Eliminate Project and uploading them on social media. Towards the end of the DCM, members and officers were able to witness the Lieutenant Governors getting lemonade poured on them by those who donated to the Eliminate Project.

Pixie Woods Clean Up Our Kiwanis club held a joint event with our sister division, D27S Koi Fish, for our annual Pixie Woods Clean Up. Members were expected to wear face masks while maintaining proper social distancing for our first in-person service event of the term. Volunteers had the first thirty minutes to freshen up with breakfast, provided by the Pixie Woods staff, and familiarize themselves with the amusement park. The Pixie Woods staff would give tasks/jobs to groups of volunteers, which would vary from freshly planting flowers, gardening, raking up soil, and tidying up the amusement park. Volunteers were allowed to take breaks whenever they chose throughout the four-hour service event, as long as they spent the majority of their time cleaning up. Despite the work being a bit laboring, many volunteers would say the event was enjoyable because it was our first in-person service event of the term. At the end of the event, lunch was provided and members were able to bond with one another by hanging out at the park, located next to Pixie Woods.

Adopt a Park

May 1st was St. Mary’s Key Club second Adopt a Park event at Holiday Park. Holiday park was chosen because of its proximity to our campus and wide open spaces that can support many different activities that we may choose to do in the future. By “adopting” this park we will maintain it as well as host other upcoming events there. The event itself went very well, we saw high levels of attendance from both members and other nonclub affiliated students; the event was well advertised. Our club president coordinated with the city to secure the necessary supplies to re-sand the Horse pit, lay new bark in the playground, collect trash from around the park, and repaint various peeling surfaces. In addition to the progress made for the community, food was provided which all the members were able to enjoy. The ability to relax and eat and see all the work done in the total 3 hours even better built a relationship between the members of the club.
