Another SCHOOL year, another slay year <3 Hello my new and returning grizzlies! If you don’t know me already, my name is Stella Torres, your 22-23 Division News Editor, providing all Key Club updates to make the Grizzlies smarter than ever! My tasks within this role is to always inform Key Clubbers with any questions and also document them down on issuu.com, which you are probably reading right now.

In this editor note, I will be talking about my summer (& a quick update from my last Editor’s note for those who’ve been reading) and how the new school year can be tough for all of us, however we grow stronger. For my amazing grizzlies who have read last month’s Issuu Newsletter, I was discussing how I was in a Summer theatre Program. This program was from the start of June and end of July. Within this program, young minds can experience what it is like to go through the process of auditions, rehearsing and responsibilities on being casted in general. When walking into the room for the first time, there were double the amount of kids that I expected from last year when I first joined the program. I was so nervous. Not because I was intimated, but just so many new people to work with (especially the ones that were a lot younger than me). I was aiming for the main role afterall. 90% of me was confident, but from past experience of rejection, I knew there was a 10% of me not reaching my expectations I had set in mind. When auditions were over, I was relieved. Then, when the results of the cast list came out, I nearly cried because… I GOT CASTED AS THE MAIN LEAD!! I couldn’t believe my eyes! I promoted it on my socials a thousand times, and thank you to all the Key Clubbers who supported me and came to watch. Always believe yourself Grizzlies, you never know where your motivation will take you. Don’t stop trying!! Now that we are back in school, I know all of us are at least going to be stressed at some point. As an upcoming senior this year, my schedule is just filled with upcoming haunting moments from school work, leadership tasks, and college acceptances/rejections. I wish you the best luck and just know you are not alone. All your hardwork will be paid off from how amazing you are and how hard you have been working. Work towards your dream and I promise it’ll come to you. I bEE-lieve in all of you Grizzlies, MWAH!!! One of my top goals this summer is getting to know each Grizzly individually, creating bonds as much as possible. Although I won’t be super active as I was last term, I will still be at many Division events as possible. I always love meeting new people, so please if you see me around, give a quick wave. I promise I don’t bite. This is all the content I have about my personal life for today… and this month. For more of my personal content and getting to know me better, make sure to follow me on Instagram @stellamiiko! Do not be afraid to message me on any platforms, I promise I won’t bite, I just want to be a friend!!

WHAT’S ROARIN’, MY GRIZZLIES?! School is back in session and the sun is still beaming brightly! I hope that your summer 2022 was a time full of sunkissed memories and happiness for you. It surely passed in the blink of an eye. Whether time sped up because you were having fun or because you were doing the same thing everyday (sample routine: sleeping, eating, do nothing for 12 hrs, repeat x60 days), it’s time to get back into the scholarly mindset and take on this new school year with full confidence! Summer for our Division has been one for the record books. We held a successful Sanri-OTC with over 100 Officers and Members in attendance from D27, we held various service events where our Members were able to help out community members at events like Festa Italiana and the 4th of July Kiwanis Breakfast, we attended Region 16’s Colorsplash and tasted the rainbow (I inhaled so much powder, do NOT consume the powder), and…we WELCOMED STOCKTON COLLEGE EARLY ACADEMY (SECA) BACK INTO D27N! We are officially an 11 Club Division again. Looking towards our futures, I hope that throughout this school year, you remember that your grades, test scores, anything numerical related to academic performance does not define your worth as a human being. Continue to try your best and remember that knowledge is power. Although school can often feel monotonous, high school is the next stepping stone to adulthood, so cherish your time. Absorb knowledge and wisdom from others like a sponge and have the time of your life because we aren’t young forever! Sorry, that turned a little angsty but…August is CLUB RUSH SZN! With school being a fresh start for all, that also means that joining clubs will be a fresh experience for many! That also includes JOINING KEY CLUB. Officers, this is the time where you need to be on your A-game, proactively preparing your Club board to succeed at recruiting new members at events like Club Rush so that you can gather new folks interested in serving their communities and being leaders LIKE YOU. Ask me questions, as the DLT questions, ask your Advisor(s) questions, do anything you can to make sure you are prepared to attract potential members to your school’s Key Club! Check out the CNH Cyberkey for Resources. Remember how important it is to discuss the Core Values of our club and how the spirited aspect of it really makes Key CLub stand out as the largest student-led community service organization. “CARING–OUR WAY OF LIFE.” This is the Key Club motto. Carry the same passion and genuinity that you have in CARING FOR OTHERS in your community and world and show it with pride to other students. LET’S HAVE A ROARIN’ SCHOOL YEAR, GRIZZLIES! Please let me know if I can be of any assistance to you!

Key Club International is a non-profit student-led organization for high school students since 1925. Our basic principles of caring, character-building, inclusiveness, and leadership, which were accepted by our Key Club International Board in 2002, are taught and promoted through community service. Key Club members, who are part of the community-service-centered Kiwanis International Family, grow into young leaders while making a good difference in their schools and communities.

The organization was founded on May 7, 1925, by California State Commissioner of Schools Albert C. Olney and vocational education professor Frank C. Vincent, who collaborated to form the first Key Club at Sacramento High School. Female students were welcomed to Key Club for the first time in 1976, eleven years before Kiwanis International (learning that on the page 3), our sponsoring organization, admitted women. Currently, the global organization serves 12 million hours of community service with over thousands of members each year. You can add on to it too!

Key Club is supported by membership dues and generous contributions from Kiwanis International to sponsor service-leadership training programs. Our community-service organization provides members with a variety of opportunities, such as supporting our International Service Partners March of Dimes (which funds research to reduce premature births), UNICEF (which fights poverty, violence, discrimination, and disease in children around the world), and Children's Miracle Network (which raises funds for over 170 children's hospitals).

If you want more info about leadership in Key Club, check out the June Newsletter!!

INTRODUCING INTRODUCING

SHANELLE RELUCIO 22-23 Key Club International Trustee My name is Shanelle Relucio and I am so immensely honored to be serving as one of your International Trustees for the 2022-23 term. I’m from Division 05 North in the sunny Central Valley of California (proud to be representing my corgis!). After two years without ICON, I had absolutely no idea what to expect at my first International Convention. However, my experience definitely exceeded expectations. The first few days, we had the opportunity of touring around Washington D.C. We went to an amusement park called Kings Dominion, went shopping in the city, visited the Smithsonian, and saw famous monuments like the MLK Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, White House, Washington Monument, and more! While going around the city was definitely fun, the best memories were made with my roommates and other friends I made on the trip. Little things like karaoke, cleaning our messy room, and eating some amazing food, really made the trip extraordinary. Even before ICON officially started, I was definitely a little bit exhausted.

(HOUSE OF DELEGATES) ”I was happy, I wanted to cry, but most of all, I felt so much solace in the fact that it was all finally over. Hearing them announce my name as one of the trustees was a feeling I’ll never forget. A feeling of relief, a feeling of hope, a feeling of pride. I am so insanely proud to be representing CNH, my division, and my home club. Key Club has given me nothing but opportunity after opportunity, and I am so grateful to be able to give back to our organization by improving our members’ experience. Every high schooler deserves to be able to feel confident in themselves, to serve and to lead others, and to make change in the world”. READ DISTRICT NEWS FOR MORE!!
