Second month into school Grizzlies!! HOW DO YOU FEEL!?! I know I feel tired already! I hope everyone is having time to rest for yourself and please don’t overload yourself, self-care is important during this time of year, especially my seniors. I love all of you and reach out if you just need a friend, as I always say at the end of my editor’s note <33 HappyGrizzliesSeptember ⋆ ˚｡⋆୨୧˚ my first few months ever in Key Club and how I built myself being someone who was only limited to stay in their shell to miss Division News Editor. This is for all my new grizzlies who can be possibly scared of this organization or any grizzly who wants to push themselves into become a true Key Club leader.
I remember vividly what my first ever Key Club event was. It was the 2019 August DCM. Our very own Antonio Q. was our Lieutenant Governor at the time and I was with my school friends. We were in the hot sun, playing many icebreakers and starting our DCM session. I was especially clueless what was happening as I wasn’t even memorized with the Key Club pledge. I can just imagine myself standing there awkwardly with my right hand up in the air looking at my friends with an embarrassed face. Lucily after that day, it got in my head, but at the time, it was as if I was learning the unit circle for the first time. It was very educational however as I learned about the purpose of Honey Points, recognition, and how to even run a meeting. Just watching something can teach you a lot. It was all before I knew the meaning of service and building bonds. After the event, I followed the CNH and Division Instagrams where I was deeply educated about opportunities, origin of Kiwanis, etc. It wasn’t until the middle of sophomore year I was brave enough to ask my 2020 d27n leaders about advice on how to become a leader. I 100% recommend it, I promise everyone is nice. Who knows what will come to you, like me, I had no idea I was so interested in the DNE role! One of my top goals this summer is getting to know each Grizzly individually, creating bonds as much as possible. Although I won’t be super active as I was last term, I will still be at many Division events as possible. I always love meeting new people, so please if you see me around, give a quick wave. I promise I don’t bite. This is all the content I have about my personal life for today… and this month. In a blink of an eye, it is already September! We only have about 4 months left before 2023, can you believe that? How has school been going for you all? How have my fellow seniors been doing on c*llege applications? Yes, I censored it because c*llege is a word that probably triggers a lot of stress for my seniors wanting to get into their dream schools by next year, including me… No matter how hard it may feel right now trying to balance your clubs with school and your personal life, I just want any of you reading this newsletter right now the reminder that you are resilient. You have made it through every obstacle that life has thrown your way so far. There is no doubt that you can push through whatever struggles or stress you may be facing right now. Remember that without rest, you will have no energy to continue your pursuit of your goals. I have a hard time resting without putting myself down, calling myself “unproductive” for it. It is a conscious effort I have to make every time. If you have any free days, DO NOT TAKE THEM FOR GRANTED continue to squeeze in more on your to-do list to “get ahead” too often. It is amazing to stay proactive like that will you ever find a rare moment to breathe? I understand the pressure you may feel to remain driven and “money-motivated” but remember that you are also a growing teenager living your aesthetic, movie plot-worthy life. Balance your work and play and don’t let yourself lose yourself amidst the fast motion of life.

There are a few LTG updates that I would like to share with you all. At the beginning of August last month, we ran into issues with our venue for our August DCM. This DCM would be the first one of the school year so I wanted it to be a hit with the new Members wanting to attend. I was extremely stressed out to discover that securing our original venue was experiencing so much difficulty. I am appreciative to my Officers and Advisors for being so flexible and adapting when I had to change the tentative date and location that I shared Next time, I will not share any details about events until I know that there is a high chance that it will work out for that location and date. In the end, our August DCM was an amazing turnout with over 80 Grizzlies (and soon-to-be Grizzlies) in attendance. Thanks for having fun at our Grizzly Games! Our Division has been doing exceedingly well in regards to fundraising for the Pediatric Trauma Program! Thank you for all of those that have been contributing to our Division service hours goal. Thank you for your time and commitment being out in the community assisting others! Your compassion is commendable. The Division t-shirt design contest was concluded with an amazing submission from Fanny Huang of Mcnair Key Club. I hope that we can start releasing finalized details about t-shirt orders soon. I am BEE-yond excited for AIRPO-RTC! As one of your Co-Chairs, I have been busy planning logistics for the training conference for the last few months. I am so happy to see all of the promotion and buzz about it so far. I hope that you decide to join us at one of the biggest events of the term! Kiwanis International is an international service organization for adults. Their purpose is to support and develop community projects that benefit and enrich the lives of children and families, mostly Key Club related. Every year, our Region 16 Cupcake lieutenant governor(s) host the Region Training Conference, which often takes place in the first few months of the academic year (September-November), this year being in September. You will meet Key Club members from other clubs in your Region, having a chance to grow out of your shell. Don’t be scared, everyone is very welcoming! You can meet the members of the other clubs in the region through many activities such as icebreakers, specific sessions, etc. There will be educational workshops on various subjects that will benefit you and the other club members. You'll learn so much about Key Club and how to be a better officer, leader, and member after attending this conference. Join us on an exciting flight around the world as we make stops at different locations. Key Leader is an annual service leadership education program hosted by Kiwanis International and offered to high school students. Key Leader is a once in a lifetime experience, and ALL Key Clubbers are invited to attend, whether you are an officer or a general member!
Downtime is scheduled into the weekend where attendees can play board games, write friendship notes and sneak them into other’s mailboxes, and most importantly, bond with members from Key Club, KIWIN’S, and Kiwanis!!
