D27N's December Newsletter |Volume 10 | Issue 7
Message from the DNE Hello grizzlies! It’s finally the holiday season wooo!! I can’t believe a new year is about to start. This year has been full of so many unexpected things and it has been going pretty chaotic for me haha. October was a hectic month with Spirit Training Conferences and fun service events such as the Run Against Hunger and Yosemite Clean Up. One of my favorite events that happened during October was Fall Rally North. FRN was such an exciting event. It was so nice meeting new people and hearing everyone’s cheers and laughters. It was definitely a memorable event for me and I hope everyone else had just as much fun. December is going to be an exciting month for 27 North. There are many new events coming such as the Sac State Gift of Giving event, Lodi Kiwanis Parade of Lights, Festive/Holiday themed December DCM and MORE! I hope to see you all participate and have fun!
Thank you for taking your time to read the newsletter. Stay warm and enjoy the holidays!

Fall Rally North Recap
Maureen Romero St. Mary's On October 23, a handful of St. Mary’s Key Club members ttended Fall Rally North in Six Flags. 16 members participated in FRN as a part of D27N from St. Marys. In preparation we held our own Key Club spirit training sessions to prepare all attendees for FRN and made spirit sticks to show our spirit. Despite the rainy weather, we brought our spirit, positivity, and energy to the spirit session. Overall, we placed top 5th in the competition and raised money for PTP as a whole. Everyone had a great time and can not wait for next year's FRN.
Jennifer Pham Middle College Fall Rally North is an annual event in which different divisions from all over California, Nevada, and Hawaii meet up at Vallejo’s Six Flags. This exciting event started at 10:30AM to 10:00PM. The different divisions competed to win the spirit stick. For MCHSKC, we were required to be at BUDD 105 by 8:10AM. Our club practiced our three chants on the bus, as we came closer to the rally.inBefore the park Six Flag preparation foropened, key clubbers were given early entrance, which meant shorter lines on the rides! The DC Universe action was closed off to the general public until 12:00PM, and it was mostly the attendees from key club. From 9AM to 12PM, attendees from different divisions had time to go on rides, take pictures with other key clubbers, and eat tasty food. 12:40 was when the rally would be opened. As many key clubbers wanted at the entrance to go into the rally, many divisions would chant and scream with excitement. The district board (CNH) hosted the outdoor rally, once each division was seated. The hosts began the rally by auctioning off Lieutenant Governors from each division. The hosts would alternate between auctioning the Lieutenant Governors and chanting. During the auction, our division was able to secure our current Lieutenant Governor, Hailey Phan, as well as the Lieutenant Governor of our sister division, D27S, Kirsten De Jesus. Our division was called to perform “Hollaback Grizz,” our round one cheer, and thanks to our Spirit Task Coordinators, Habeeb Khan and Peter Nguyen, we made it to the finals. Following each division's cheers, many key clubbers shouted supportive cheers to one another. Lots of attendees were excited and filled with energy throughout the lively event. Although we did not win the spirit stick after performing our round two cheer “Plain Grizz,” our division was able to be in the top five. After the rally ended, attendees could use this time to go on rides, eat, meet new people, and reconnect with old friends. As it got close to 4PM,many key clubbers met up at the Blood Fountain and did spirit battles. Music played in the back and many attendees formed circles and danced. The rain did not stop anyone from dancing, singing, and spirit battling away. Once it got dark, our club met up with everyone at the Blood Fountain and the night quickly came to an end.
Jennifer Pham Middle College Our second Spirit Training Conference happened on October 9th from 1:00PM to 3:00PM. The event took place at the Matt Equinoa Park. A Covid waiver form, masks and key club spirit were required by all attendees! The event started off with a fun ice breaker. Then, the spirit team and our spirit task coordinators demoed three chants that attendees would learn for Fall Rally North. Members and officers could create their own groups and were able to pick someone from the spirit team to be the leader of their group. The attendees spent an hour practicing the three chants made by Amy Do. There was lots of excitement and stomping that took place! The attendees got a fifteen minute water break before the spirit battles began. For each group, members and officers were able to pick two songs to battle against a random team. Before each battle, each team would chant, “We got spirit yes we do, we got spirit how about you,” twice to the opposing team. To declare the winner of each round, the attendees who weren’t battling would cheer the loudest for the winning team. As it came to the finale, the best four teams would go against each other. There would be two teams on each opposing side, battling to see who would win. Amy Do and Jamie Lynn Phan’s team won the finale. Towards the end of the event, our lovely Lieutenant Governor, Hailey Phan, updated us on our yearly goals. Members and officers took a division photo at the end.
MCHSKC’s 8th general meeting was held at Delta College’s West Forum from 5:05 to 5:45. During this meeting, attendees were able to do service to meet or complete FRN requirements. The meeting started off with the pledge salute. Our Secretary, Kiara Flores, dived right into the secretary report in which she talked about the October service projects, on-going service opportunities, and FRN requirements and transportation. Our president, Jamie Lynn Phan, took over and talked about new business and club goals. She announced the Service Project Committee Freshman results in which Abigael Nguyen was picked! The movie, Coraline, was put up on the big screens and members and officers could enjoy watching the Halloween classic while doing service. The service included making cards or decorating candy bags for a nursing home, just in time for the elderly to enjoy Halloween! Many attendees enjoyed this easy service while watching Coraline with their friends. As time came to an end, we adjourned the meeting at 5:45.
