key club club moment moment

When I was in my freshman year, I decided to join Key Club. Although I have volunteered for a variety of service events since then, none of them compare to the Italian Festival event in summer. That event had the usual tasks that any other festival would have for volunteers, such as face painting and helping out at different stations. This event stood out to me because I was able to meet and talk to other volunteers from other high schools. This key club moment has motivated me to continue to volunteer.

I knew when I had one of my first Key Club moments. It was during Conclave, January 2020! Conclave is where you elect your new Lieutenant Governor! I met up with a lot of my friends and I was glad to see everyone together, especially my friend from D27S :). I also learned a lot about Key Club during Conclave as well! I took tons pictures with everyone and overall it was just a fun experience <3.

My Key Club moment would have to be at my very first District Convention. I was only a freshman and fairly new to how things worked at the convention, but that wasn’t a problem. The people there were super nice and welcoming. They helped me figure out which workshops to go to and how to have fun there. The main part that I would define as my Key Club moment would have to be when I was in the community service room during the convention. Along with a few of my friends, we all sat in there and started to make heat pads by filling socks with rice. If I were to do this alone, I probably wouldn’t have that much fun, but I was doing it with others and we were having a good time. That’s when I realized what Key Club was; it’s a place to do service and have fun while doing it. Not only did we have fun amongst ourselves, but we were interacting with others around us. Everyone in the room was just having a good time while doing their service projects. It is something I still remember vividly to this day.

Region Training Conference: Super Sta-RTC On September 19th from 9 AM to 2 PM, I attended Region 16’s Super Sta-RTC. Our annual training conference took place via Zoom Conference. Although it was disappointing that we could not see each other face-to-face, all of the Lieutenant Governors did an amazing job organizing this event! This event consisted of informational workshops and exciting activities that kept the attendees engaged. I personally attended some workshops about Interclubs and the Duties of a President. During the games portion of this event, the adrenaline that I felt as all divisions competed for first place gave me a big rush of happiness. Some examples of the games that we played were NitroType and the Pixel Game. I am extremely ecstatic to share that Division 27 North won first place in the spirit aspect of this event! To see each division’s Zoom backgrounds and each member decked out in spirit gear was refreshing. Sta-RTC was very lovely and I am thankful for the new knowledge and Key Club pride that I left this event with.

Love Letters for Literacy

Middle College Key Club and Middle College’s Student Government teamed up for their first ever event together. Love Letters for Literacy is an organization that helps teach the alphabet to children. Members created flash cards of each letter in the alphabet and a picture to help the kids memorize each letter. Along with the cards was a personalized letter from the member that helped to encourage the children to want to practice and learn to read and write. The packs of cards and letters were dropped off at Bear Creek High School and they will be donated to Parklane elementary.

Downtown Lodi Cleanup and Ribbons Lodi High Key Club held another cleanup with the environmen-

tal club in downtown Lodi. There were many members from both clubs that came and attended the cleanup. Members picked up trash for about an hour in an area that stretched from Locust Street all the way to Lodi Avenue. A lot of people were able to fill up a lot of their bags and buckets with garbage, which was a good and bad thing. After the cleanup, members “hung up the ribbons that were made to raise suicide awareness. Because members were not actually allowed to hang these ribbons up themselves, people went to various businesses and asked for permission to hang the ribbons in places such as their windows. Overall, the event was very successful as it helped improve the state of downtown Lodi and it would help create awareness around suicide for those who see the ribbons.

M(c)HS pinterclub On September 12, 2020 Middle College and McNair Key Club had an interclub where members donated to learyfirefighters in exchange for the board of both clubs pieing themselves. $1 raised would mean 1 pie. It was done auction format meaning members would call out and bid for the specific officer. For example, one of McNair’s member Timothy Nguyen bid for Habeeb Khan with the donation of $30 causing Habeeb to pie himself 30 times. This is a nice donation as the goal was to raise $50 and at the end of interclub we raised $142 for firefighters! If we were to surpass the goal the advisors would have to pie themselves, those being Bruce Mercado and Dale Reasor. Overall the interclub was successful raising a good amount of money for the learyfirefighters! :D
