Letter from the Editor!!! Hey Ellies! I hope your summer’s have been treating you all well and that youve made some core memories! Although it is that time of year again... Back to school!! New schedules and teachers can be a hectic experience but I know we can do it! Let’s start this year off strong and prepare for club rush and recruitment of new members. I hope to see familiar and new faces at all of our upcoming events! I wish you all a great start to your school year and I can’t wait to see all of the great events you guys will come up with!

Letter from the LTG!!!

Hey Ellies!

I can’t believe summer is already almost over, it’s been so fun hosting summer events and attending events like ICON. With that being said, as school starts make sure you all keep a good balance between Key Club and your school life! It may be a difficult transition, but I will always be here as a support system if you need any help. Get excited for club rush season because you will be able to meet so many new people, and hopefully another Ellie! I can’t wait to see what you guys do during the next month!

Stomping through Service, Chloe Hartanto Division 35 East Lieutenant Governor

ICON!

ICON was a blast. We spent our first couple days in the Capitol touring the area, and then finally making our way to the International Convention. There were so many workshops to attend and they were all so much fun. The international trustees were all so nice and welcoming, it was awesome seeing them in person. We got to vote for our new international trustees, where someone from our District, Shanelle Relucio, was elected as one of the 11 international trustees!

There was also the annual Pin Trading, where you were able to interact with so many different people from all over the world, I even met some people from the UK! I highly recommend attending ICON in the future years, it was a great experience overall and I had so much fun! It will be in Anaheim, California in 2023 so be on the lookout for more information soon! By: Chloe Hartanto, LTG

12 Bracelet Making

Event!

By: Abbi Ramos, Charter Oak

On July 2nd Charter Oak and Walnut teamed up for a fun bracelet making event at Cortez Park! Members from both clubs were able to enjoy the warm sunny day and make beaded bracelets to donate to a children’s home. Ice cream was also sold to help raise money for PTP. Overall this event was a success and all members were able to give back to the community while enjoying themselves with their peers. “I really enjoyed seeing Key Clubbers from Walnut and Charter Oak work together to make bracelets! There was tons of spirit and I loved seeing the kindness of Key Club as members helped one another finish their bracelets!” said Charter Oak’s club president, Joshua Santhirasegari.

Trash Cleanup! By: Nathan Kwan, Bonita

On June 26th, we held a trash cleanup at the local park by our school. That afternoon, we met up with Mr. Sanchez, our Kiwanian supervisor, at Las Flores Park in La Verne. Everyone was armed with trash bags and gloves, ready to pick up any garbage in sight. “At first I thought that there was not going to be much to do at this event, but as we started, I realized that there was a lot more trash on the ground than I had expected,” said secretary Andrew Zhang. “We ended up picking up quite a respectable amount of trash.” We discovered a lot of different items that we didn’t expect to find. We picked up broken pieces of ceramic plates, homework, and even USPS boxes. After the cleanup, the park looked much better. I’m glad we were able to have a positive impact on our community through this event. I also realized how important it is to minimize littering and waste; not only is trash ugly, but it also severely harms our plant and environment. Hopefully, we will be able to do this again to make our town a more beautiful place.

IPoly

Summer Classroom Cleaning From June 6th to the 10th, IPoly held a “Summer Cleaning” service event! From 10AM to 12PM on these days, members were invited to assist in cleaning and tidying up classrooms to ensure they looked spotless for the upcoming school year. The previous school year was indeed hectic after a return from remote learning. With the transition from digital to physicaI, orderliness in the classroom may have been difficult to maintain, on top of everything else teachers have to handle. We wanted to lend our school’s hardworking faculty and staff a hand, however possible.

So, for two hours every day for a week, members cleaned classrooms as thoroughly as possible (lots of spray cleaner was involved). Although we didn’t get to every classroom on campus, our work did get a few classrooms clean and polished, and hopefully welcoming for a new batch of students. President Jessica Pasiribu felt that “This service event was a great way to show gratitude for teachers while strengthening connections with fellow Key Club members,” and I’m sure many of our members are in agreement with this sentiment.

Covina’s Keyclub hosted its very first event of the summer on June 18th. All members were invited to Santa Monica’s Muscle beach located near the pier. From there everyone worked together to pick up trash and clean the area. By devoting their time and efforts to cleaning the beach all members proudly exhibited the admirable traits all members should strive for.

Their dedication to helping the environment in any way they could truly made this service event a successful one. Along with the cleaning, members were able to enjoy the warm day on the beach and interact with their friends. This event was a great way to kick-off their summers and Thi Ton even said, “Although it was just to clean, we had fun walking around the beach!” By: Abbi Ramos, Charter Oak
