Whats Poppin Ellies!
We are nearing the end of the term and I truly can’t believe it’s almost over. This position has allowed me to grow so much and truly fall in love with our division! I hope that everyone has felt as impacted and at home in our family of Ellies as well. This past term has been filled with incredible memories and meaningful acts of service. I want to thank our current LTG Chloe Hartanto for everything she has accomplished and worked towards to make this term possible! As your current LTG Elect I cannot wait to work alongside all of you to make this upcoming term incredible as well. As always I hope you all enjoy this issue of the Ellie Edition and please be sure to keep an eye on the Division’s socials and ask your club presidents about DCON registration as soon as possible!

Happy March Ellies!

Wow, our (technically) final month in the term. It’s almost time for the last newsletter submissions, last MRF submissions, last service events, last fundraisers, and my final DCM. I am incredibly proud of how far this division has come and so grateful for each and every one of you guys. I would not be the person I am today without this division and all the members a part of it. I still have one more newsletter left, but there’s always time to get some gratitude out there! With that being said, please keep working your hardest so we can achieve our division goals!
We are so close to reaching each goal and I have no doubt that we can surpass it. You all have done an amazing job to keep this division heartful and spirited. Keep up the outstanding work, there are still just under two months left to make a lasting impact!

January year in
On January 21st, the division held its monthly DCM at Cortez Park from 2-4 PM. This DCM allowed members to reflect on the past service projects that we’ve done as a division this term. We were able to work together to create more cranes, stickers, and dog toys. As always, during the DCM portion of the event, each club was given the opportunity to report what they’ve accomplished in the past month and promote future events. Despite everyone’s busy schedules with the start of the new year, we had a great turnout. This DCM allowed everyone to reminisce about this term as we near the end. As Eliza Garcia,

“I enjoyed the January DCM and being able to remember past service events and seeing so many people be able to relive these acts of service. I thought it was so fun how people would say “I remember doing this” because it shows how our service events aren’t just events but memories that members can look back to and still remember. With new faces but same acts of service, no matter how or what it may be, being able to recreate these events and create memories that further stem off of past experiences is what I really enjoyed about this DCM.” Overall, it was a great start to 2023!

Oragami Crane Making
Taking a page out of the first division service event of the 202223 term, Rowland Key Club brought it full circle as we recreated the origami crane event nearing the end of the term. Making origami cranes originates from the Japanese custom that 1000 cranes would symbolize hope and healing during challenging times. “Desperation increased my efficiency. That day I made five cranes,” remarked Wilson Zhen, one of our members, “I really loved that this event has been recurring in this division and that so many people came by to participate!” Overall, this was a fun opportunity for members to learn how to makeorigami cranes and give back to the community.

Ipoly Cranes for
On January 12th, IPoly Key Club held a Cranes For Cancer service event! This event was held in support of Cranes For Cancer, an organization that aims to uplift cancer patients by giving them paper cranes, which symbolize hope and healing. They draw inspiration from the old Japanese tradition that says 1,000 paper cranes bring good luck. During lunch, members gathered in our advisor, Ms. Pellegrini’s classroom, where we had paper available in a diversity of colors and patterns. Some came already knowing the folds, while others did not, but by assisting each other, and watching some video tutorials, many members became learned origami experts in no time. General member, Rena Ko, said: “I really enjoyed [the event], even though I don’t have much experience with origami.” In just an hour, we produced a beautiful collection of paper cranes that we hope brings good luck and health to its recipients.

Charter Oak for Cancer
In the homeland of origami, lies the Japanese tradition of senbazuru: the folding of 1,000 paper cranes. This majestic creased phenomenon represents hope and healing. And so, in one week, Charter Oak Key Clubbers decided to spend two lunch periods folding paper cranes to donate to a local hospital. For many students, it was their first time making cranes, but luckily, some of our Key Clubbers gave some insightful lessons about how to craft the bird.
“It’s honestly a very easy thing to make,” says Jake Mu, a sophomore. “I do it all the time.” Thanks to a generous donation of origami papers from Charter Oak Key Club president Joshua Santhiresegari, many beautiful cranes flapped their wings after the lunch period ended.

Lets meet our member of the month!
What has been your favorite event so far?
My favorite keyclub event was our first one. It was actually held after school at meca. Everyone came together in Mr. Corderos class to make little ribbons and we sold them for $1 afterwards and donated it. I like this event the most since literally EVERYONE was there and it was fun. Usually for events outside of school v few ppl attend so it was great to see such an amazing turn out!
What new things are you excited to see this year from your club?
I’d like to volunteer more . I suggested that Hailey (St. Sac ECA Preisdent) consider beach cleanup and that’s happening soon! So I’m really excited about going to the beach with my school friends and cleaning the area up. I love the ocean!
What inspired you to join keyclub?
I joined keyclub at first for volunteering hours and because my friend hailey was president! But I soon realized how exciting it was to not only hang out with people but overall make an impact in others lives. This encouraged me to volunteer outside of school. It’s my favorite club because the members just have this fun and positive vibe that makes everything better.
