Region 13 held a dance for all schools and districts region-wide to join. The Winter Formal was held in Alhambra, at the magnificent Almansor Court with the theme of Tokyo Lights. Many attendees arrived at the scene of the dance at around 6 p.m. in semiformal attire, with some outfits adhering to the theme of the formal; all were ready to create memories that were sure to last, some with new friends, and some with old. Once the formal officially kicked off, food was eaten, such as fruit, kabobs, sandwiches, egg rolls, and other finger food; refreshments were drunk, many danced on the dance floor, and even some just sat and enjoyed the spectacle that unfolded. The party wasn’t all about fun and games, however - all proceeds and funds that were gathered before and during the event were sent to charities that surely made a difference to those in need. Since As the dance drew to a close, cheers rang out across the hall with “We feel good, oh we feel so good!” When it finally ended, attendees left with smiles on their faces. No matter what event is being held, Key Club does it with zeal, but also remembers to help out those in need at the same time - after all, that’s what the club is about.

Every month, Diamond Bar Key Club works with Isaiah’s Rock to help with miscellaneous tasks such as organizing donated clothes to give to charities or packaging food that is distributed weekly. However, this month was different. Several of our members packaged countless bags for an annual event organized Isaiah’s Rock. In the bags went shampoo, conditioner, nail polish, chap stick, etc. These bags will eventually be packed with school supplies and other essentials to be given to girls in need. Sometimes we forget that there are people that lack such basic materials. Therefore, being able to help this organization bring these supplies to these girls is really fulfilling and reminds me of how much already I have. I am so glad that I could help out with an event that really impacts our community.

Every year, about a hundred generous volunteers come together to package boxes with supplies for these troops. Yet this isn’t just packaging them in one spot. These packages are boxed in a unique way. Since this event took place at an elementary school, all the volunteers lined up around the cafeteria and went through the aisles. It looked like a long snake slithering through the cafeteria. On one side of the table there were volunteers handing out the items and on the other side there were volunteers that were receiving them in boxes. Some of the supplies donated were toothpastes, gum, razors, gummies, granola bars, magazines, tissue paper and salted peanuts. This year it only took about 20 minutes to package about 100 plus boxes which was about the same as previous years.

Without these volunteers this process would have taken a lot longer. This was an amazing experience for everyone, whether a first timer or returner. Many veterans were there who appreciated seeing the smiles on everyone's facing knowing that they took the time out of their day to help troops in need. It feels great to know that there are soldiers who appreciate everything volunteers do for them without even knowing them personally. I wish I could see the smiles of these soldiers as they open their boxes but I can't. Yet, what I was able to see were the genuine smile everyone in the room had which opened up my heart even more. This is an event I anticipate every year.
