During the last weeks of April, the president and vice president-elect for our club came together to plan an event for the first time. The event itself was to send typed letters to patients currently residing in Saint Judes Hospital. Writing uplifting messages to help them out during hard times especially through a pandemic. Planning the event with help from the previous president we decided on the event to introduce ourselves to the idea of planning and going through an event. Emily Chan, South Hills Vice-President-Elect said, “I think it was a great experience especially for me to plan an event especially since most of the officer parts of Key Club are still coming through towards me and this was a great starter run for the events that we are going to plan in the future.” - Matthew Zhong, South Hills Editor

Last month on March 17th 2021, we did an event called placemat making. This event allowed for me and other members to hone into our creativity and make something truly special for homes, community centers, and hospitals. Key Club member Reem Tewelde says that “I liked the placemat event because it was a small, personal thing that can have a big effect on those who have one. I like service events like this because they’re more personalized and can really make someone smile.” From unique designs, bright colors, and vibrant patterns, the placemats truly represented each and everyone of us and the positive message behind it radiates to the ones who see it. It was interesting to see how we all had different perspectives of creativity as we shared different designs of each individual’s placemat while also subconsciously getting to know one another virtually. But most of all, this event’s goal was to be a small but thoughtful gesture to make dinner feel more personal for the patients of the hospitals, community centers, and homes. This was not only something fresh but it was also something that felt right at such a time like no other. In all, the activity helped us discover our creativity, ourselves, discuss ideas, and most of all help our community at such a time. - Li Min Lin, Rowland Editor

Senior citizens are respected and cared for around the world. They are the older generation, the wisdom, the foundation of our world. COVID struck everyone like a tidal wave, pulling us in, pulling us out. But COVID struck the senior citizens we treasured and continue to reassure, and it struck them hard. Suddenly, everybody was kept inside, the only chance for interaction between the senior citizens living in their houses, their homes, and shelters suddenly disappeared. No one could visit them anymore, sickness took thousands of lives, and not only were they facing impending danger from the virus, they were also forsaken in times of crisis and they felt less love than they ever felt before. Walnut High and Diamond Bar High Key Club needed to reaffirm and establish an opportunity for students and volunteers alike to show their unbounding love for senior citizens again. Build A Banner, a simple event with a catchy name came to life. Through zoom, both Diamond Bar and Walnut had 20+ members creatively decorating their own heartfelt letters and banners to senior citizens. Later on, officers gathered these beautiful banners, and through teamwork, the banners were strung and delivered to a center near Walnut City Hall. Now, the banners flow in the wind, and with every passing pedestrian and driver, another lovely message is delivered, and senior citizens can once again feel the tremendous love that should not be forgotten. - Joy Wang, Walnut Editor

This past month our club held a Mystery March event where we surprised our members with the service project we were having. At the meeting we announced what the service project would be doing and gave them time to collect all their materials. Our service project was book mark making for children, the material members used were paper, color pencil/markers, For this event we encouraged our members to make colorful, fun, and creative bookmarks along with little notes of motivation for a class of second graders at a local elementary school. These bookmarks will later be dropped off at the elementary school to be distributed during a student supplies pickup. - Dayana Pamplona, Northview President

On April 10th, iPoly Key Club held a COVID-friendly nationwide Panda Express fundraiser. By inputting our code through the Panda Express app or website, 30% of all orders will go towards the Pediatric Trauma Program. This fundraiser was well marketed and many members of our division began posting their orders on social media. When we asked our treasurer-elect, Joshua Parayno, about his thoughts on this fundraiser, he said, “I think that the fundraiser was a great idea because you can support our club anywhere in the U.S, and I hope that we’ll be able to hold fundraisers like this in the upcoming term!” It seems like this event was a huge success. - Roslyn Nava, IPoly Tech Editor
