SOARING By: Nicole Rinaldi, Rowland

INTO THE NEW TERM

On April 16th, John A. Rowland’s Key Club went to the very first service event of the new 2022-2023 term. We made many paper cranes to donate to a local hospital. Did you know that in Japanese tradition, a person who folds 1,000 paper cranes is granted a wish from the gods? They are often given to the gravely ill as a wish for prosperity and good health. When asked about the event, our newly-elected secretary, Chenxi Lu said, “Making paper cranes is so hard! But knowing this would go to the local hospital, I have to show my appreciation!” Many of our members were able to learn how to make paper cranes for the first time and bond with each other. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and an excellent start to the new term!

COVINA By: Athena Matila, Covina

April, a start of a new term as we soar our way into 2022 to 2023! To institute our new term, we introduced our new officers in the near the beginning of April. Training and support from our previous term was greatly helpful. Officer meetings took place as we adjusted to our roles as well as a bonding event. Us members were proud and excited for this new term as we shifted our way into the events. As for the division service event “soaring into the new term,” we made many paper cranes and learned how to make them. It was a lovely event for the local hospital. Taking part in Tree planting was a great experience as well. But the most impactful event was our Food Packaging services. In collaboration with Interact Club, we had many roles in getting the job done. Food which contains rice will be distributed to those in need. We are glad to help take part. The April DCM was right and our lovely President Anthony Chen got to represent Covina. We’re so proud of the new DLT as well. We do not know what is expected near the end of this school year, but we are eager to attend new events and the May banquet which will be a blast.

BONITA KEY CLUB’S

FIRST GENERAL MEETING

08

By: Nathan Kwan, Bonita FOR THE START OF THE NEW TERM, WE HELD A GENERAL MEETING ON THURSDAY APRIL 21ST, 2022. THE MEETING WAS A GREAT WAY TO KICK OFF A NEW BEGINNING AND RECONNECT WITH OUR KEY CLUB MEMBERS. We first started by introducing the newly elected board. Our members enjoyed getting to know who would be running the club over the next year. Not only did we present this information, but we also sang it. The board prepared a special parody song called “Industry Ellie” as a fun way to present ourselves to the club. “Industry Ellie was really entertaining when I first saw it,” said general member Izzy Flores. “The board did a great job

finding a way to connect with students and make things interesting. It overall was a really well done video!” After showing the video, we played a fun icebreaker game called Soulmate. Overall, the meeting was a fun introduction to the new term and Bonita Key Club cannot wait to see what this next year brings!

OFFICER-ELECT TRAINING Last month, on April 26th, 2022, Walnut Key Club held an Officer-Elect Training Day for the new officers for the 2022 to 2023 term. From 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm, the IP officers and the officer elects held a meeting at Snow Creek Park in Walnut for the Officer Training Day. During the meeting, each officer elect met individually with their respective IP club

officer to detail the duties that each officer must fulfill. The IP club officers used informational slides, past files, and their personal experiences during the term to adequately prepare the new officer board for their term. After the individual training, the IP club officers and the officer elects had a discussion about ideas for the new term. IP Walnut Key

Club Vice President Sarah Chang recalled that “the training was a great learning experience for both officers and officer elects. We shared our experiences and really focused on improving the club for the next year.” With the training from our IP club officers, I am personally very eager to see what the new term brings!

“My goals for this term are to help increase the number of participants in key club activities by promoting the events more! I also want to be able to make it to more events and be more involved since my schedule can be busy.” - IZZY FLORES, BONITA

This was one of the first vents to start off our new term t the event, we were able to press our creativity onto a small rd which was going to be sent the program that helps children cancer. We illustrated a variety es and encouraging words always keep smiling,” “you are han you believe. Stronger than m, and smarter than you think,” ch more! opportunity to make a big difference in someone’s life through a simple activity. We had a few members come out to make cards for kids with cancer and it was really fun seeing everybody take advantage of the creative freedom they had, to create some amazing messages and drawings!” Our hope was to be able to make an impact on these kids and to make them feel that they are truly loved no matter who they are. This inspired us to really put in our best creativity skills and personal touches to the cards. With 2 hours of talking among our little group, we were able to learn more about each other, what our interests were, and just had so much fun! All in all, this activity gave freedom to our creativity, and our hearts to the kids.

VIDA SH Last month on April 30th 2022, an event at the VIDA Shelter was held. The VIDA Shelter has provided safety for a great many animals until the perfect home is found for them. Cleaning up this shelter was a great opportunity for members to care for animals like cats through the creation of a welcoming and clean

environment. This increa visitors would adopt an can create bonds with as take a break from stu APs. A member named “The event was super fu activities we could do w

ROCK PAINTING By: Samantha Trazo, Ipoly

On April 21st, 2022, Ipoly Key Club held our first service opportunity of the term, where we painted rocks for students at a local elementary school! Using art supplies from our incredible advisor Mrs. Pellegrini, we painted cheerful designs and uplifting messages onto smooth rocks. Since this school year was a transitional and sometimes difficult time for many, especially students in elementary school, we thought these colorful decorations would offer some encouragement to anyone in need. Even though the primary goal of this service event was to uplift younger students, it also raised the spirits of our participants! Our members found it

refreshing to relax and unleash their artistic side during a time of standardized testing and other end-of-the-year academic challenges. When asked what she liked most about the event, Eryka, our Outreach Coordinator, said, “My favorite part about the rock painting event was talking with everyone while we were painting because it made me get to know the people in the club better and it felt like I grew closer to them.” Overall, our first service event of the term was a success! We hope to hold more events like this one where members can connect and enjoy themselves while serving the community.

“My goal is to be a little more active and participate in more activities. My most memorable memory so far was club rush because it encouraged me to join Key Club. A friend also recommended the club to me, further influencing my decision.” - RAINA OH, DIAMOND BAR
