What’s Poppin’ Ellies?

Well of course you know it’s the Covina Ellies once again pouncing their way through service. Over the past month Covina key clubbers were active participants in the division’s service projects and events. In particular, we had a very strong showing from our members across the Rose Parade work days. The Rose Parade is such a symbolic tradition especially here in southern california where it originates from that it feels extra special for us to have a small hand in pulling it off. Tammy Li, whose family has a

tradition of collectively watching the parade on TV when it comes on, was itching with anticipation as she watched along the entire broadcast waiting and cheering for the floats she recognized our club members were working on. This sentiment was most definitely shared with everyone who had volunteered as it signified that the hours they poured into cutting all those flowers were worth it as it amounted into something so beautiful. The conversation, stories, and memories created by our members alongside one another and other members

was very chill and I think it’s cool that we got to thank our teachers for everything they did for us throughout this semester while also wishing them a happy break”. We’re so grateful for our wonderful teachers!

KEYMAS WEEK “What I love about Key Club is getting the chance to meet new people from other cities, states, etc. and I love getting the opportunity to volunteer and provide for the community!!” - KENNEDY DOLFI, BONITA “I love Key Club because I get the opportunity to help my community in a fun way with my friends and new people I get to meet.” - NATHAN KWAN, BONITA “I love many things about key club, but by far what I love most about is all the fun service projects that they provide. I find volunteering at some events to be a unique experience that teaches me how to grow as a person. Not only that, but I’ve met some pretty cool people through Key Club so that’s always a plus! ” - SARAH PHAN, COVINA

For the past month of December and starting January, we hosted our Keymas Week, making it a week of events before Winter Break. It was from December 6th through December 10th. We had Card Making for 1st Graders, a Macy’s Believe event, Dog and Cat Toy Making, Cranes for Cancer, and Card Making for Senior Citizens. They were all a success and Key Clubbers joined and showed some love to the community. Starting the year off right, we hosted a Cabinet Meeting coming back from break in order to arrange new events for

CANNED FOOD PACKAGING On December 17th, Key clubbers gathered at Walnut High School to sort and sanitize canned foods. These cans were carefully packaged and distributed to more than 100 families in need. One officer, Jeremiah Jung, who went to the event, said, “I think it was pretty productive and it ended nicely. Everyone was working hard.” This activity allowed members to not only to gain experience and hours but to help those in need and work for a cause.

FOR RAMONA MIDDLE SCHOOL WINTER BAND CONCERT On November 30, 2021, we collaborated with Ramona Middle School Band for our service event where we called for volunteers as ushers for their concert. This event allowed every volunteer, every amazing individual to participate greatly in helping those in need of finding their seats or checking in their tickets. With our efficient team, we made sure that all tickets were correct, and no wrong seats were seated with the wrong person. It was a fascinating and

exciting experience for all because we got to put in our effort, regardless how small, in making the lives of these people that came to watch the concert of their children, friends, siblings, or family a little bit easier, and their experience a little bit less confusing and frustrating overall. From Ethan Bui, BHS key club treasurer, “Sometimes you would take people up to the balcony through the stairs or the elevator, that was pretty cool.” From the dress shorts and dress pants

to the organized systems of ushers, the BCA had put together a very effective and efficient system that allowed us to help the most people in the best method of ways in the least amount of time. I believe it is safe to say that although it may be tiresome for some of the volunteers, it is definitely an experience we will look back on and enjoy, remembering the joy and laughter we shared when we got to help these people to their seats.

“I love the key club because of the community it gives me. I love seeing how I am helping my community when I volunteer as it makes me feel good inside!” - EMMA LI, COVINA “I love that there are so many volunteering opportunities available to get involved with your community and that the club feels like a safe place where we could all communicate.” - RAYA MONTEMAYOR, NORTHVIEW

volunteers for each section. Each section was unique, there was a snow slope, several game booths, a photo op, a marketplace where there was food and crafts, and a VIP section for those who wanted to watch the performers and included food. While working the photo op, I helped families

take pictures and told them what not to do when in the photo area. Because there was a snowman made of actual snow, the directors of the event wanted to make sure the area would last until the end; they instructed us to tell the kids not to touch the snowman or play with the snow.

AS VERY SUCCESSFUL, WE MANAGED TO ASSIST THE POPULATION (200-300) PEOPLE, WHILE KEEPING THE PARK ORGANIZED AND CLEAN.

“I love how Key Club is able to host events that allow us to contribute in some way to our community.” - ISABELLA LEE, DIAMOND BAR “I love Key Club because it’s a great way to meet new people from other schools and it makes you feel good about yourself when volunteering at events.” - EVELYN WANG, DIAMOND BAR “I love being able to interact with others and being able to help my community and people around me!” - EMELY GONZALEZ, NORTHVIEW
