Fairy Garden

Last month on May 22, 2022, the Fairy Garden Banquet was held. In commemoration of Division 35 East and the accomplishments of the 13 home clubs, the Banquet was held as a celebration. With the school year coming to an end, the Banquet was a great bonding experience for many. For example, we were able to get to know an amazing individual who was a Junior at Bonita High School. We sparked a conversation and were able to discuss our interests and the common values that we share as key clubbers. In addition, we had the honor of receiving the Early Bird Award because most, if not all, of our members had paid their dues on time and become members of our club. Key club officer Kelly Yan said, “When we received our award, I was super happy. I also felt proud of our officer board because we tried our best to gather as many new key clubbers this term. I hope we can try even harder to have more members join this year.”

Garden Banquet

She also said, “At the banquet, I really enjoyed hearing all the inspiring speeches that were given by all the hardworking, dedicated members of the club. I also enjoyed chatting and eating food with my friends! The banquet was a great end of the term celebration.” For the new officer board, this was one of the first banquets we had attended, which made us realize how big our division truly is. With each cheer, we were able to carry out one of the core values of Key Club, inclusiveness. There was a sense of community, and a feeling of belonging, that was sparked through this Banquet. Overall, we were so proud to be able to engage with such committed key clubbers at this Banquet, and it will continue to be a memorable event for our officer board.

Secret Painting

Before finals, we held our second collaboration with the NHS Art Club on May 11th, 2022. For this crossover, we had a “Secret Painting” social event where the members wrote down three of their favorite things on a piece of paper, which were then shaken up in a bag and pulled out randomly. After getting our list of things, we were encouraged to let our creativity run free. Students kept the identity of their painting hidden until the very end of our event. This bonding experience let us create more connections within our school and learn more about each other.

Key Club member Matthieu Aguilar says he “really enjoyed how we were able to make each other’s day by drawing things they like.” Another fellow Key Clubber, Vania Macias, our fundraising task coordinator, shares her favorite part about the event was “being able to get to know the other members and letting my creative side show.” It was wonderful seeing all the amazing and talented artists in both clubs. Even though some of us could use a bit of help, it was an eventful collaboration and we’re looking forward to our next one!

On May 14th, Division 35 East held our May DCM as well as a Division Doggy Day! Members were encouraged to bring their dogs (and maybe even other animals) to this event, and make their very own dog toys using T-shirts. We were able to learn how to make dog toys and interact with each others’ precious doggos as well! “I would attend this event everyday for the rest of my life if I could meet all the dogs again,” said Natalie Saelao, one of our attendees. This event was a great way to bond with each other through our love of animals!

Ice Cream Social

In the past month, Walnut Key Club volunteered at a local elementary with their end-of-the-year “Ice Cream Social”. Volunteers arrived around 3:30 PM to help set-up and finished around 8:00 PM after aiding in the clean-up process. The carnival provided game booths, food stands, raffles, and other fun activities for the students. They used a ticket system instead of actual money where 1 ticket was equivalent to 1 dollar. The students would have to use tickets for game booths and food stands.

Volunteers helped run booths like mini basketball, inflatable slides, and mini golf. At the game booths, they would give winning tickets to those who beat the games, and these tickets could be used to purchase a variety of different prizes. Other volunteers helped out with drinks and snow cones. Throughout the event, volunteers had unlimited access to food and drinks. Personally, seeing the children have so much fun playing at the game booths and winning prizes was a truly gratifying experience and worth the 4+ hours that I spent at the event.

BONITA MEETING

To end off the school year, we held a general meeting at Bonita on May 31st. The board introduced their plans for the term. First, we held the meeting with our new advisor, Mr. Grzechowiak. Key Club is excited to have him and we can’t wait for his help this term. The board then talked about upcoming events like the Spirit Scout applications and our Tea Love fundraiser. They also announced that an official club website is in the works, something that has never been done before for Key Club at Bonita. After, the board announced the Key member of the month, something they are bringing into the new term. This will recognize Bonita Key Club members who have excelled in service and upholding the values of Key Club. Congratulations to our member of the month, Chris V.! Finally, we played a Kahoot game on random Key Club trivia. It comes to no surprise that our member of the month, Chris, won first place! Bonita Key Club secretary Andrew Zhang said that “we had a lot of fun at this meeting with the chaotic but amusing Kahoot. I loved the new meeting room location and our new faculty advisor is great.” Overall, Bonita Key Club is looking forward to a bunch of new things this term and we are excited to see what this summer brings!

PolyOfcer Bondi n g

On June 6, 2022, IPoly Key Club’s officer board held the first “officer bonding” of the term! Officers gathered at Cham Sut Gol, a Korean Barbecue restaurant in Rowland Heights. This was organized to strengthen the bonds between the board; a strong bond will help us become an even more productive team and set a good example for our members, which can improve club engagement. Over the course of two hours, we talked while enjoying a wide variety of meats (10 orders!) and appetizing side dishes. After eating to our heart’s content, we finished off the feast with ice cream. We walked out of the restaurant satisfied and with a stronger bond than before! Vice President Joshua Parayno and Secretary Zayd Salahieh commented, “Officer bonding was a movie.”
