COLOR WAR WA

By: R

AUGUST DCM

On August 28th, Division 35 East held a “Color Wars” event for our August DCM. This event took place at Cortez Park and participants were asked to bring a white shirt that would soon be splashed with color. Since we are part of this division, iPoly Key Club attended this event and even won some of the contests. After the

08

icebreakers and the actual division council meeting, there were a series of games. The first game was an art contest, which our home club ended up winning! The theme of the first round was summer so we drew a beach, and the theme of the second round was key club so we drew a bee. The second part of the event involved a

freeze tag esc game with slight modifications to the rules. Participants with pink powder could freeze all the others, while those with other colors could unfreeze. In the end, those who were nonfreezers claimed victory. When asked about her thoughts on the DCM, Jessica Passaribu (our event outreach coordinator) said, “I really

HAPPY HELPERS HOTLINE By: Rachel Kao, Walnut

Are you ready to go back to school? As school has resumed in session for students and teachers, everything has been extremely hectic in preparing for it. Because of this, Walnut Key Club brainstormed the idea of the event “Happy Helpers Hotline.” The event was created to assist the teachers and advisors on campus who need help preparing their classrooms for the school year. The event had two shifts; one was from 10:00am-12:30pm, while the other shift was from 12:30pm2:45pm. During the event, several teachers would call the principal’s meeting

room, there would then be a volunteer from the club answering the phone, in which they would write down the teacher’s room number and name. The rooms would then be assigned to the volunteers and would be assigned to helping them until they aren’t in need of help anymore. Because of the abundance of volunteers in the second shift, there were sometimes two or three volunteers for a teacher. Overall, it was a good experience; we are hoping to continue this event next year, as the teachers seemed to enjoy the help as well.

COVINA

CLUB RUSH By: Bea Guarin, Covina

This past month has been pretty eventful for our club as we continued to hold service events for our members while also planning for our school’s Club Rush! The board officers (plus a few general members) all gathered up at our Covina Key Club President Thomas’ house on multiple days leading up to Club Rush working on trifolds and poster advertising which we feel like definitely helped make our table stand out in the end. Our table was all decked out in Key Club Gear which we feel helped sell members on the key club experience leading to us

filling up multiple pages full of interested members! Additionally, Club Rush this year was a little more chaotic than it has been in previous years since in addition to advertising joining the club we were also given the opportunity to fundraise by selling something. We had decided to keep the tradition of selling Boba, which turned out to be a hugely successful opportunity for us because people loved it and we completely sold out!!! Turns out everyone at CHS loves boba, so we earned a lot of fundraising money which we will donate a portion of to PTP!

AS OUR CLUB PRESIDENT, THOMAS LE, REFLECTED BACK ON THE CLUB RUSH EXPERIENCE HE HAD THIS TO SAY : “CLUB RUSH WAS PHENOMENAL! THIS CLUB RUSH WAS HONESTLY DIFFERENT FROM MOST CLUB RUSH WE HAD IN PAST YEARS SINCE WE COMBINED IT WITH A BOBA MILK TEA FUNDRAISER WHICH I COULD SAY DEFINITELY HELPED BENEFIT OUR CLUB AS IT ALLOWED US TO RAISE MONEY TO HELP SUPPORT A CHARITY! IT WAS SO GREAT SEEING SO MANY STUDENTS SIGN UP FOR OUR CLUB THIS TIME AROUND THAN IN THE PAST TWO YEARS, AND IT WAS HONESTLY THE GREATEST THING. STUDENTS WERE SMILING AND LAUGHING AFTER TAKING PICTURES AND OVERALL JUST HAVING A GREAT TIME. THOUGH IT WAS HECTIC AT TIMES, THE MOST FUN THING I SAW WAS HOW LONG OUR LINE WAS FOR KEY CLUB SIGN UPS AND OUR BOBA MILK TEA! WE CAN’T WAIT TO TELL ALL OUR NEW KEY CLUBBERS ALL OUR FUTURE EVENTS AND LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING THEM ALL AT OUR GENERAL MEETINGS!” SO OVERALL, CLUB RUSH 2021 WAS A HUGE SUCCESS AND BEING AN OFFICER OF THIS CLUB I COULDN’T BE MORE PROUD OF EVERYONE FOR THEIR SUPPORT AND I CAN SAY WE ARE EXCITED FOR WHAT THIS YEAR HAS TO OFFER! STAY TUNED EVERYBODY… COVINA KEY CLUB OUT <3.

“Being a long time fan of the NBA, I will be dressing up as one of the top basketball players in today’s era, Lebron James. Arguably one the greatest of all time, Lebron is one of the many role models I look up to and that’s why I want to dress up like him for Halloween.” - ABRAHAM OU, COVINA

DLT

A chit chat section where you get some tips, advice, fun facts, and many more from your DLT.

ET’S ALK

“Fall Rally is an unforgettable and memorable occasion where people can go crazy and have the opportunity to meet people from outside their division! Honestly, I feel like fall rally shows the students that key club not only offers service and develops leadership skills, but also fun events! I don’t think anyone should miss out on it.” - Megan Po, D35E HSTC

14

“I’m really looking forward to fall rally this year, meeting new people and trying to win the spirit stick at six flags. Not to mention, getting the chance to scream out my lungs during the cheers and on roller coasters.” - Rebekah Tsai, D35E MRC

THIS MONTH’S TOPIC: FALL RALLY

“Fall rally is truly a once in a lifetime experience. When I first went my freshmen year, I was blown away with the number of Key Clubbers all gathered together to have fun. The stadium shook under the Key Clubbers screaming their cheers. This event is easily one of my favorite events, and I promise you won’t regret it!” - Brian Hsu, D35E ME

Fall Rally is a great opportunity to meet Key Clubbers across CNH and see the passion for service we have! My favorite thing about Fall Rally is having spirit battles with other divisions and showing off our elephant pride! Go to Fall Rally! - Daniella Laher, D35E EA

“This Halloween I plan on cosplaying as a character from the new marvel movie alongside my friend (and Covina Key Club President) Thomas Le! We had gone together to see the movie when it premiered and I loved it so much that now I want to dress up as one of the side characters of the movie for Halloween while Thomas goes as the main character Shang-Chi.” - ANTHONY CHEN, COVINA

“I want to dress up as either Shang Chi or a KPOP star. After I watched the movie, Shang Chi proved to me that it was the best movie of 2021 and it was so cool to see asian representation in the MCU! As for a KPOP star, I just love their fashion style. I know it may be a bit weird, but c’mon you can deny that they look stylish!” - VINCENT LE, COVINA
