Last month on July 24, 2022, the division held its July DCM. During last month’s DCM, we sold spam mu subi, made fun-fact booklets, and played Jeopar dy!. Like every DCM, clubs could talk about what they’ve achieved in the past month and listen to what the division has planned for the upcoming month. After the DCM portion of the event, mem bers were briefly taught how to make the fun-fact booklets. Members could decorate and write whatever fun facts they wanted as these booklets would be donated to children’s facilities. Towards the end of the event when we started the Jeop ardy! portion of the event. Members were placed in teams where they were tasked with coming up with a team name and chant. Once teams were established, the game began. The categories we had included Key Club Knowledge, Marvel Triv ia, Name that Song, Celebrity Trivia, and DLT Trivia. Each team would have a representative who would answer for that round. Representatives would compete with each other to answer the question by trying to raise their hand first after the announcer said: “go!”.

There were many activities to engage in and it was an overall really calm atmosphere.” Alice Chen, a Key Club mem ber also said, “The July DCM was really fun and I liked the diversity of the Jeop ardy! questions.”

After each round, representatives would be switched and the cycle would repeat itself until every question was used. Overall people seemed to enjoy Jeopardy! As it was both entertaining to watch and participate. When asked about the event, Walnut Key Club member Valery Chang said, “I thought that it was fun and allowed for a lot of interaction between the attending members.

She said, “It was amazing to see preparations being made for this rade alongside getting to participate in it. We were able to use our creative freedom to add 4th of July decorations onto someone’s car, which was very first to be shown! It was very able and I would definitely go Also, we had the honor of discovering the heroic deeds that the fire depart ment and many others had performed. Not only that, but we watched izing performances that were carried out by them. We really appreciate amount of time and effort that this parade, and we continue to forward to them in the near future.

On July 4th, a parade was held in Hacienda Heights to celebrate Independence Day. Both Key Club divisions were able to collaborate with the Hacienda Heights Kiwanis to make this parade possible. In preparation of the parade, members helped decorate cars that were showcased afterwards. Most of them were classic cars that are rare to come across today. Some even got the chance to walk alongside other organizations during the parade itself, which was a new experience for many. These groups ranged from church communities to scout troops. As members of the audience, my fellow publicist/tech editor, Katelyn Thai, and I were able to gain a better insight on the different organizations.

This past month, Diamond Bar Key Club and Rowland Key Club worked together on a beach cleanup. This took place at Huntington Beach. Our members walked around the beach picking up any trash they saw and put it in a garbage bag to throw away. We were also able to bond with each other during this activity. “I feel this was a really great event that tied in with the whole recycling and caring for the environment,” Vinnie, a general member of Rowland’s Keyclub said, “It is also a great opportunity for me to go to different places and be with friends. I really enjoyed this event and look forward to attending more future events like this.” Overall, this event was a great way to meet with fellow Key Clubbers and save our oceans, one beach at a time! x RHS Joint Beach Cleanup x RHS Joint Beach Cleanup

IPoly Back To School Classroom Clean-up

By: Samantha Trazo, Ipoly For one week, from August 1st to August 5th, IPoly Key Club held a Back-ToSchool Cleaning event! To ensure this event could accommodate as many members’ schedules as possible, classrooms were open from 8AM to 3PM, and this time window was divided into three different two-hour shifts during the morning, noon, and afternoon. So, Key Clubbers were invited to clean and tidy up classrooms once more, to completely ensure that classrooms looked presentable and welcoming for their upcoming batches of students. Being able to socialize with other members and catch up with teachers before the start of the school year made this an enjoyable conclusion to our summer activities. Even during summer break, members of the IPoly community have remained active. With several concurrent summer classes having been taken by a good deal of students in all grades, most of the classrooms remained in use, and unfortunately, some may have lost their gleaming shine and finish that resulted when we cleaned them at the beginning of summer. When asked about this event, our Outreach Coordinator, Eryka, answered: “Summer cleaning was actually really fun!

Mainly because I’ll be having [our advisor] Mrs. Pellegrini as a teacher this year, so it was cool to help set up her desks and chairs!”

West Covina PD Training

The West Covina police Department recently held a school shooting scenario event. A police officer told us that we would be in the locker room, screaming for help, while a fake active shooter shoots blanks. After probably forty to fifty scenarios, it was time for the campus-wide training. We all met in the middle of the school and were broken up into different groups. Joelle and I were placed in a hallway, and the training started. Another man in a camouflage outfit walked and shot blanks. Then, about ten police officers ran up to us. We were told to direct the officers in all different directions to confuse them. They ran past us, and we all grouped in the middle of the school. Many other volunteers were lying down, injured or dead. I decided to lie down too— my feet hurt! It was a while before an officer came up to me and asked if I could walk. I got up and we made our way in a small group to the front of the school, directed by an officer. When we finally reached “safety,” we were directed to stand at the corner. And with that, the training was complete! Hopefully, this situation will never become reality for these police and the volunteers. Overall, it was a good experience to help out these police officers in keeping schools safe.

I’m currently working on the Charter Oak Key Club website. I’m almost done with it! I’m just working on the aesthetic aspects such as adding pictures and graphics! I hope to make it a easy way for people to get access to my club’s information and future events!

I’m really excited to attend new service events, see more people from my school at events, and help others to make the world a better place. And as for advice to new club members, don’t be afraid to meet new people! Especially people from Key Club. They will always be willing to help you, and mentor you when you need advice or assistance.

Hey Ellies! As a way to shine the spotlight on September’s officer of the month, I decided to ask Charter Oak’s editor, Wade Mu a few questions on what he’s most excited to bring to his club, and a few tips for members!

Communication is key. Additionally, I hope to use my connections with the school ASB to help organize future service events and in crease club membership!

Let’s Chat with our Officer of the month!

“To start off the school year strong, I would recommend taking notes beforehand and studying those notes everyday before you come into class. I would also recommend putting your notes of each subject in their own binder, so it’s easier to access for upcoming tests.”

“A good study technique that I recommend is to study in 3040 minute sessions to avoid burnout. Frequently repeating information in your own words is also a good strategy to reinforce any new knowledge.”
