Hey Ellies!
I hope you have had a good few weeks of school! It is almost club rush, so we should get ready to welcome new members into the family :) As we transition events back to in person, I hope we can all stay safe and healthy while attending service. Make sure to get lots of sleep, eat well, and drink lots of water even at school, and I wish everyone the best of luck in the new school year! “I am preparing myself for club rush by sharing the kind of environment we have in Key Club with all my friends. The objective of helping others through service in a fun way and by sharing the benefits we share in Key Club such making great friends, creating memories and being helpful is a great tool for Club Rush” - KATELYN RONEY, BONITA
For the past month of July, we hosted our first service event of the month on the 12th which was a game called Shave the Day. The game is much like the game Subway Surfers, but the points are then turned into real points to help fund childhood cancer research. Many loved it and it was a great success! We also hosted a General Meeting to
simply go over this coming month and to refresh on what we have planned. We hosted the meeting on July 14th and discussed division events and the club overall as well. We are beginning to prepare for club rush and we are introducing a member recruitment committee in order to grow our Ellie family!
ON THE 19TH OF JULY, WE HAD A VERY EXCITING EVENT WHICH WAS OUR LETTERS OF LOVE EVENT WITH NOGALES KEY CLUB! IT WAS GREAT TO HAVE THEM FOR OUR INTERCLUB SERVICE EVENT.

NOGALES AND NORTHVIEW On July 19th, Nogales Key Club in collaboration with Northview Key Club led the Letters of Love service event for Door of Hope. The Door of Hope organization is a non-profit with a mission to empower families experiencing
homelessness. Members and Officers met on Zoom to write letters to lift residents of the organization up and let them know that they can get through their struggles. The service event gave members an opportunity to
“We prepared by having officer and cabinet meetings where we planned out ideas for club rush. We are also planning to meet in person and work together in creating spirit gear, cutting out pieces of paper with information on them to pass out to prospective key clubbers, and much more!” - SHARON WANG, WALNUT
By: Thomas Aguilar, Nogales familiarize themselves with a commendable non-profit and participate in its great cause. It is important that we Key Clubbers strive to motivate members of the community and the Letters of Love service event was successful in doing so.
LUCIA LOPEZ, CREATIVE CHAIR, STATES, “I LOVED PARTICIPATING IN THE LETTERS OF LOVE EVENT. I HAD SO MUCH FUN MAKING THE LETTERS AND I HOPE THAT THOSE WHO RECEIVE THEM ENJOY THEM AS MUCH AS I DID”.

“I’d tell students to consider joining key club as it promotes building community while serving the community in various forms.” - LESLIE RUIZ, NOGALES “Since our club rush starts on the first week of September, my officers and I arranged for all of us to meet up soon to begin preparing what would be our table by working on the trifolds! We also plan to make flyers as well to be able to flex our past merchandise and how cool joining Key Club is. So far that’s our plan but I’m sure we will have more ideas soon! ” - THOMAS LE, COVINA “One way in which we will be preparing for club rush is by greeting every individual with our great spirit! We will be raising the energy with our chants, spirit sticks, shirts, and of course our trifold presentation! All of this we hope will convince them as to why they should join key club :) ” - ELYSSE TRINH, COVINA

PIEOLOGY FUNDRAISER In the past month, Walnut Key Club organized a fundraiser at Pieology pizzeria in order to help raise funds for our club/ ptp. The fundraiser took place towards the end of july, on the 22nd. In order to help prepare and make sure there were a lot of participants, our team publicized the fundraiser starting the 8th of July.
Each day, we would ask a certain number of people in the cabinet to post on their social media platforms about the fundraiser urging more people to go. By doing so, we were able to let a lot of people be informed about the fundraiser. Furthermore, we added an incentive to this fundraiser that will motivate more people to

ROADSIDE CLEAN UP
By: Isabella Lee, Diamond Bar
On July 25th 2021, members of Diamond Bar Key Club and I took the initiative to clean up the roadside of Heritage Park. This event was called “DBKC Roadside Cleanup” where we worked together to clear away litter around Diamond Bar High School. At the event, trash bags and disposable gloves were distributed among us members and we were split into groups where we spread out to find trash in our designated areas. Whether it was used cigar buds or leftover deflated balloons, each member tirelessly
worked to clean up whatever trash they could find. Not only was this event used to improve the cleanliness and environment around Diamond Bar High School, but it also allowed the members to see just how much trash litters the roadside they drive by every day. Through this event, we hoped to open the eyes of our members and to discourage the act of littering. After all, had we not collected the trash we found that day, who knows how long they would continue to exist, damaging the environment day by day.
KEY CLUB MEMBER HANNAH JEONG SAYS, “I LIKED IT. I LIKED HOW I COULD TALK WITH PEOPLE AND SOCIALIZE AND I ALSO GOT A NICE WALK THROUGH THIS EVENT!”
“In order to prepare for the club, key club has held more meetings and publicized more on social media about the events and what is to come for the club.” - CARINA YOUNG, WALNUT

This past month our club tried something a little different with the way we went about introducing one of the two service event projects we would be doing. It was announced as part of our last general meeting in which we opened up a limited 24 hour poll (via the club discord) that allowed our members to hold the power to select one of our previous club service
projects that they would most want to see make a comeback for the month. In this little way, we felt that it revisited the notion that our club is not just a club but a community of people that all love to help. Additionally it was another opportunity for us to be able to promote our discord in a more engaging way. Unsurprisingly though, at the closing of the poll the much loved service

I REALLY ENJOY BEING ABLE TO CHOOSE FROM ALL THE DIFFERENT CATEGORIES THAT LETS ME LEARN NEW VOCABULARY, PRACTICE MATH, ETC. Members of D35E and D35W attended an in person volunteering event for the La Verne Grand Prix Bike Race on July 24. This was the first volunteer event of the term for division 35 east, so many new members were especially excited to attend something that was not virtual. At the event, members were given
many different tasks such as setting up for the race by placing barriers or guiding parking and bikers during the race. Not only were members able to watch the bike race but help out as well. It was nice seeing members come out, and it marked the start of in person events as our division transitions away from virtual events.

Time management is a problem for many Key Clubbers especially because we are all students on top of volunteering. I find it super helpful to plan out my entire week every Sunday or Saturday! I list out what meetings I have or when something is due so I am always on track to do well!” - Marcus Fang, D35E LTG
My advice to help juggle between key club and school is to manage your time wisely. By finishing up school work ahead of time, I am able to have more time to incorporate key club activities, meetings, and to complete my duties. This way, I can both finish up my work for both school and key club. - Christine Wang, D35E HSTC
THIS MONTH’S TOPIC: BALANCING KEY CLUB AND SCHOOL
One thing I love about Key Club, compared to other clubs is the way you can fit it into your schedule. Most of our events are during the weekend, so you won’t be missing any sleep during the weekdays. It’s also a way for you to stop worrying about school, homework, and just do some volunteering or hangout and socialize. - Alex Chen, D35E EA
I spent the first year of key club online so there were certain things that I didn’t account for such as the time to get to events. Even though in the first weeks of school i was constantly stressed, knowing that i had people to talk to from key club helped. - Chloe Hartanto, D35E Secretary
