MY DCON EXPERIENCE
Attending District Convention for the 2018/2019 term has been one of my greatest pleasures. I was able to not only interact and meet new people, but also expand my curiosity and interest in Key Club. Upon reaching my hotel, I encountered Key Clubbers by division from around the district. It felt a lot like Fall Rally but a lot more personal. My group consisted of three senior girls I didn’t know, but we became quick friends and still maintain contact today ⏤ so don’t skip out on DCON because you won’t be in a room with your friends! That Friday night, they held a ceremony to welcome us and also run down the itinerary. The food was excellent and they provided a wide range of options. The opening ceremony allowed many Key Clubbers to meet for the first time and interact with each other prior to the next day’s events. The next day on Saturday, my partner and I attended the hall for voting. It was a long process and took the majority of the day. We were introduced to Key Club International Trustees, current division board members, and lastly the candidates. They all did a spectacular job on their speeches and caucus questions, however the winning votes came down to Chuofan Yu as Governor, Kristie Poon as Treasurer, and Lawrence Guittap as Secretary. Outside of the voting hall, members were able to attend workshops on various topics held by other Key Clubbers. We concluded the night with dinner and another ceremony, and then it was time for the Governor’s Ball! The night was spent extravagantly and everyone from the district could let loose and have fun. The following days it was time to say goodbye to all the friends we had made, but we made sure we would be able to stay in touch. I can’t wait to see them again at our next DCON! - Sofia Nawaz Division News Editor
