The pressure that exerts a fluid at rest on the walls and the bottom of a container and on the surface of any object immersed on him is called “hydrostatic pressure. This pressure is directly proportional to the depth regarding the level of the fluid. If the pressure on a pool at 5 m depth is of 49,000 Pa (Pascals), determine: a) The general equation that relate the pressure regarding to the depth.

Y=kx Y = pressure X = depth K = level of the fluid b) The constant of proportionality. 49,000 Pa = k (5m) 5k = 49,000 Pa k = 49,000 Pa / 5

k = 9,800

c) The particular equation that relates the pressure regarding to the depth. Pressure = (level of the fluid) (depth)

Y = 9,800x

d) The pressure at 8m depth. Y = 9,800(8)

Y = 78.400 Pa e) The depth if the pressure is 34300 Pa. 34,300 = 9,800x x = 34,300 / 9,800

x = 3.5 m f) Study the formula of the “hydrostatic pressure” and compare it with your particular equation.

g) In the formula of hydrostatic pressure, what it means the Greek letter rho (p) and what value has for sweet water? Density, and its value in sweet water is 1000kg/m3 ( 1 gr/ml ) What does it mean the letter “g” and what is its value? Gravity, and its value is 9.8 N kg-1 (9.8m/s2)

Multiply both values and compare the result with your constant of proportionality.
