Masterson Method

This form of bodywork yields immediate tangile results, whether your horse enjoys a life of leisure or athleticism. Yet the work can benefit any horse, ridden or otherwise. As a Certified Practitioner, Megan ties into the horse’s autonomic nervous system with an acute sense of timing and feel that helps the horse release their own tension. It takes patience and presence, but it’s powerfully effective.

Megan is a Masterson Method Certified Practitioner as well as official instructors who travel across the country offering seminars to horse owners, trainers, riders, and equineassisted service professionals. Megan lives in St. Paul and has a professional practice in Minnesota. For more about Megan, visit https://megandushin.com

Hacienda La Paz is a Minnesota 501(c)3 non-profit, located in Watertown, that is dedicated to creating peace through sustainability, leadership and community. Our educational programs utilize the wisdom of horses to teach both children and adults. Among our offerings we have a teen program called “Who’s Your Herd” and adult program called “Journeys to Peace.” We also work with individuals, businesses and organizations to offer custom, equine facilitated coaching programs and programs for children on the Autism spectrum. We have recently moved to a private farm so we will be able to resume our “Sunday’s at the Ranch” community gatherings, where families can come out and enjoy the peace of the country.

Additionally, we offer boarding with individualized care in large stalls for a very select few. Included is top quality hay and feed, heated barn, private and semi-private paddocks and a huge insulated indoor arena plus an outdoor arena 100x200 with excellent footing. We are looking for positive people who want to have a better connection with their horse. We will be having ongoing clinics for our clients and allow them to bring in their own trainers.

Hacienda La Paz was founded in 2012 by Jacque Erickson, a certified Equine Facilitated Coach and graduate of Wisdom Horse Coaching. Her journey with horses began in 2003 when she convinced her mother to add horses to their home in Montana. Her mare Caz came to Minnesota a year later in foal to Leila. Wanting to give her horses the best life, she immersed herself in learning from the teachings of Linda Kohanov, Mark Rashid, Dr Susan Fay, and Warwick Schiller to name a few. Her coaching background allows her to be in tune with the subtle cues our horses give. Recently, she has been studying the effects of trauma on the body and how horses help heal people.

Kym Garvey Save the Brays

After being raised with horses her whole life, in 2003 she got her first donkey. Kym started doing research and learned about mammoth donkeys. From there she purchased two and started riding. She decided that she got along much better with donkeys and so no more “short ears.” Volunteering for the Minnesota Federated Humane Society, working as a large animal veterinary technician and more research led her to see all the specific needs donkeys had that often times were not being met and being treated like “horses with long ears.” This led her to start rescuing donkeys and in 2016 getting STBDR 501(c)3 non-profit status. Her research in “all things donkey” continues and she’s attended several educational donkey specific seminars. STBDR averages 55 donkeys and mules in our care at any given time. 85% of what comes in are obese and of course that obesity often causes various health issues. They work closely with their regular veterinarian as well as the University of Minnesota. There’s so much to learn about long ears and education to the public on proper care is so important.

Karrie Cable Rodriguez EquiKare Equine Bodywork

EquiKare provides Equine Bodywork through a variety of modalities that include traditional hands-on massage, Equissage Pulse Treatments and Kinesiology Taping.

Traditional massages follow a sequence pattern and are typically around 1 hour. The goal of the massage is to improve circulation and loosen tight fascia and muscles. Throughout the massage, Karrie is watching for trigger points that might indicate pain or discomfort with added focus on those areas to offer pain relief and relaxation.

Equissage Pulse Treatments are typically up to 20 minutes consisting of a gentle three-way DVT (cycloid vibration therapy). Pulse treatments may consist of the back pad, leg wraps or targeted area treatments with the handheld unit. Benefits include improved blood circulation, muscle relaxation, increased oxygen to muscles, shortened recover time, elimination of toxins, prevention of lactic acid buildup and more.

Kinesiology Tape is a tool that facilitates and encourages the body’s healing properties. A variety of tape applications can be done as a support for the body while in work, to aid in and reduce recovery time after injuries, fascia release, increase circulation and more.

stay present using principles based in Mindfulness and Yoga. As a certified Mindfulness teacher and Yoga teacher with thousands of hours of teaching, Andrew leads his classes at venues of all sizes and has clinics at various stables across the region.

Adding PEMF Therapy with Bemer and Massage therapy to the list offerings in 2017, the client list has grown to horses of all breeds with over 3500 sessions given. The work of Equinimity Wellness has made an impact on horses of all types and ages.

Andrew grew up on Iron Horse Farm in Chaska, MN raising American Saddlebred horses. Working with horses from the time he could walk he learned that the horses were always trying to let him know what they wanted. He was taught early on to listen carefully so as to be a better partner with the horse. Learning early on to see the horse from all aspects, physical, mental and emotional.

After a very long hiatus from the equine world, fate led him back to the Saddlebred Horse world with a chance meeting with Lear Stables, now being led by Jennefer Lear. With a shared interest in Yoga and how the human body impacted that of the horse, they started offering yoga classes designed for the equestrian. “The key to be successful in the saddle is to be present. We spend so much time thinking we cannot hear what the horse is telling us. When we can quiet the mind we can start to feel how the horse is moving with us. We can start to really sense how our body needs to move in order to support the horse's motion. When the rider and the horse move in balance it is the ultimate experience in the saddle.”

Today Andrew offers classes and workshops designed to help horse and rider connect and to

A featured guest speaker at the Minnesota Horse Expo and other events, Andrew shows people how we can improve interactions with our horses and have a better experience with them.

Andrew also serves on the board of the Minnesota Saddle Horse Association. Heading the marketing team, he helps introduce horses to people in new ways and helps stable owners reach new audiences.

Andrew also volunteers his time and BEMER sessions weekly to This Old Horse, a rescue and retirement home for horses.

To Andrew there are few things more rewarding than seeing horses feel better. Thanks to BEMER he gets to experience that often.

This Old Horse, Inc., is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded in 2012 to support equines in transition, including rescue, retirement, rehoming and rehabilitation. We have a volunteer-based model with no paid administrative staff. Our leaders and key employees are volunteers as well as nearly 3000 community members who have joined our mission since we started.

This Old Horse holds more accreditations and certifications than any other equine welfare organization in the United States, empirically and objectively demonstrating our high standards of equine care and support as well as management, fiscal and administrative excellence. Most notably, we are the only Minnesota organization accredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS) and the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance (TAA), among a very few organizations in the country hold both.

We have been awarded and lauded as a national model for innovation in equine adoption strategies. Our adoption rates are remarkable by any standard and exceptional considering we are specialists in supporting unrideable, special needs and older horses. Unlike our national counterparts who report a high rate of return of their adopted horses, out process, placement and follow along procedures have assured our adopted horses have a very high long-term success rate.

This Old Horse was named a Purina Feeds Brand Ambassador in April 2021. This is an honor typically reserved for famous horse professionals. We are the first equine welfare organization selected for this honor and we commend Purina for showcasing retired and rescued horses with the same regard as some of the world’s most famous horses.

In 2020, we initiated a collaboration called Racehorse Reimagined, inviting key players in the Minnesota racing industry to work together toward a positive, comprehensive and cohesive response to retiring and transitioning racehorses. Our goal is to provide public assurance that we are working together to support the entire spectrum and lifespan of racehorse welfare.

Minnesota’s horses need support as they transition into new careers with new owners.

Horses end up in trouble when there is no planned infrastructure or stewardship that is easily accessible and available. This is a solvable problem and Minnesota has the tools to create a model program. Together, we can assure our Minnesota horses have a path forward to a happily ever after.

Love is good.
