INTRODUCTION Flooding is a widely occurring natural hazard that noticeably damages property, people, and the environment. Having 189 river basins throughout Malaysia, including Sabah and Sarawak, the rivers and their corridors of flood plains fulfill a variety of functions both for human use and for the natural ecosystem, i.e. they are fundamental parts of the natural, economic, and social system wherever they occur. At the same time, rivers might be the largest threat to entire corridor areas. In the context of climate change, the integration of spatial planning with flood-risk management has gained prominence as an approach to mitigating the risks of flooding. The absence of easy access to integrated and high-quality information and the technologies and tools to use information are among the factors that impede this integration. Limited research has been conducted to develop a framework and to investigate the role of information and technologies in this integration.

WHY FLOOD RISK MANGEMENT IS IMPORTANT? Flood risk management is becoming increasingly important, because more people are settling in flood prone areas, and flood risk is increasing in many regions due to extreme weather events associated with climate change. It has been proposed that appropriately designed flood risk communication campaigns can stimulate floodplain inhabitants to prepare for flooding, and encourage adaptation to climate change. However, such campaigns do not always result in the desired action, and the effectiveness of communication in raising flood risk awareness and improving flood preparedness has hardly been studied. Furthermore, communication on how to protect against floods.

LESSON LEARNED Establishment of clear line of command and command centre

Sending of appropriate and coordinated medical and relief staffs

Re-planning of flood disaster management protocols to adapt the current developments and needs

Improvement in communication and collaboration within all of the stakeholders

Identification of flood prone facilities- implementation of appropriate sustainable and mitigation actions, including the investment in new technologies or adaptation of others import technologies (overseas) that can be applied to the area

Establishment of public education or exposure towards facing the natural disaster (such as flood)

“

Why must we come out with another solution (structure solution) that clearly might harm our planet & lead to disaster while we just only have to improve on our management which is more cost benefit?

“

Natural disaster such as flood cant be stop because rain (in Malaysia for example) is natural phenomena, but the impacts that hit the prone area might be properly managed as to reduce the loss
