The latest young adult fantasy series poised for silver screen domination—that would be The Hunger Games—brought out a frenzy of stars and Katniss lovers for a premiere hosted by The Cinema Society and Calvin Klein Collection at the SVA Theater last week. Jennifer Lawrence was all smiles in a gorgeous emerald Calvin Klein Collection frock by Francisco Costa, sandwiched between cutie co-stars Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson. The secret screening didn’t stay so secret, creating a stampede of superfans pining for a glimpse of the Games starlets all along 23rd Street. Post-screening, the cognoscenti hit The Top of the Standard for libations (thank you, Grey Goose!), french fries, dramatic views, and discussion of the week’s most pressing question: Are you Team Peeta or Team Gale?

SWEET SIGNORINA!

Salvatore Ferragamo stormed the West Village last week for a blow-out bash to celebrate the U.S. launch of its new fragrance, Signorina. The venue? Artist Julian Schnabel’s house, the one and only pink Palazzo Chupi. Floral-frocked socialites and starlets indulged in a spread of ahi tuna, kale salad, and roasted beets while the crowds gathered in the building’s candlelit “garage.” A sprawling wall of roses provided a charming backdrop for photo ops. The evening’s surprise performance came courtesy of Coco Sumner, Sting’s 21-year-old daughter who performs under the name ‘I Blame Coco.’

We’ve been shooting a Ferragamo video all afternoon. everyone wants to talk to you! I’m used to it, especially in Italy. But you never really get used to it, going to parties for work. I want to dance! What’s the best party you’ve been to? My birthday party yesterday. I had an intimate brunch with my friends under the sun. I got so many good gifts, like an iPhone, a beautiful bag from Ferragamo and amazing flowers from friends!

Do you ever go to little italy? No! It’s not real Italian. I like to stay in the East Village. Alora—you have to understand I am a lazy person. When I am not working, I am sleeping. any east village favorites? I love the pharmacies. like Duane Reade? Yes! They have everything. Have you been there? once or twice. It’s great! In Italy, everyone’s always bothering you to buy something. Here, they leave you alone. Every time I go, I have to buy a new comb. You know the fake nails? They have them for kids so I bought those for my daughter. She’s going to go crazy!

THE FRICK COLLECTION’S YOUNG FELLOWS BALL New York’s young social swans are frequently inspired to don a dramatic gown, but for the 2012 “Frick,” as it’s called, the dresses were more spectacular than usual. Why? Donna Karan, who sponsored the gala. The frocks nicely echoed the aesthetics of the current exhibition, Renoir, Impressionism, and Full-Length Painting.

S E K A T H S E R F E JO MANHATTAN!

With five U.S. area locations under the belt, Joe Fresh is ready to debut its gorgeous new Fifth Avenue flagship on Friday, March 30 at 510 Fifth Avenue at 43rd Street. The setting: a super-exposed, classic modernism building designed in the fifties by Gordon Bunshaft. The coed threads, plus an extensive selection of the line’s beauty loot, will fill 14,000-square-feet spread over two floors. Joe Fresh first landed stateside last fall, quickly trotting out new locations—including mall outposts in Long Island’s Roosevelt Field and Have you met N.J.’s Bridgewater Commons—plus buzzy openings the mogul? on lower Fifth Ave., 34th Street and the UES. Make sure to check out the 70-foot-long Harry Bertoia sculpture comprised of shimmering golden panels.

in stores now! Joe Fresh Spring 2012

WHO’S JOE? Catching up with founder Joe Mimran… The new flagship is all windows—will your staff be on their best behavior? We have amazing staff in New York, and they will definitely be on display in this glass lantern of a building. We’ve also added unique features to the flagship like a video wall visible from Fifth Avenue. Where’s the most interesting location of your other global outposts? We have a very unique store located in an old train station in Montreal— it’s a dramatic building with tall ceilings. We preserved its character by keeping the ticket desk as our cash register, and left the arrivals and departures signs. How do you divvy up your time between Toronto and NYC?

It’s around a 65-35 split in terms of how I divide my time between Toronto and New York. does your style change when you’re stateside? White pants never work when I’m in New York. In Canada, you can get away with them for some reason. Where else is Joe Fresh you headed? Every major city around the world has a “Fifth Avenue” and a great landmark building. We aspire to be in all of them one day! What’s the biggest point of difference between American and Canadian shoppers? Canadian shoppers have had six years to get to know us; we’re still dating in New York! Fashion runs in the family for the Mimran clan—would you ever

Fa s h i o n w e e k D a i L Y. C o M

collab with Pink Tartan, which your wife designs and you co-founded? That’s definitely a possibility. We already collaborate on so many things; we made a beautiful 10-year-old girl together! did you encourage your older daughter, Mercedes, to follow in your industry footsteps—she’s got a Parsons degree and Alice + Olivia gig! Fashion is a wonderful career! The industry can be very tough and demanding, but it’s a real thrill. I love what I do. What’s the best advice you’ve given her? Don’t get demoralized— and you’ve got to work hard. There are challenges every day, but you have to see beyond those. In fashion you have to keep driving forward!

JOE’S FRESH BREAkFAST BASiCS! Are there any foods you strictly eat when super fresh? A banana with a bruise on it is just horrible! That’s like selling a sweater with a flaw in it! How do you take your “joe”? Dry and very sweet. Nothing beats a wellmade cappuccino. How does Canadian

coffee purveyor Tim Horton’s fare against Starbucks? They are both strong brands—Tim Horton’s does incredible business and is definitely a part of Canadian culture, but I try to avoid donuts. Thoughts on maple syrup? I love maple syrup. Especially on bacon.

ART ! MOMENT Joe Fresh is sponsoring “The Ungovernables” exhibition at The New Museum on Bowery through April 22. The buzzy show, features a wide variety of work from 34 up-andcoming creatives from around the world—many of whom have never before shown in the United States.
