Welcome to therow! front

LUCKY CHARMS! With Daily cover girl Carine Roitfeld

Thoughts on your Media Issue cover? It’s not every day that you get the cover of The Daily! My daughter Julia thinks I should get it framed. It’s the best compliment to have a Daily cover. I can’t think of a bigger welcome to New York. I take this as a good luck sign! Love your dress! Azzedine Alaïa made it for me. It’s very, very simple, and very French. Why did you pick the Frick for your bash? I haven’t heard about Fashion Week parties at the Frick, and we like to do something new! The Frick feels very European to me, and of course, I like that.

INJURY REPORT! With Iman

You broke your foot! How? I stumbled in high heels and walked for six blocks. The next thing I know, it’s fractured. Three months in bed! What did you do in bed? I read a lot, but I didn’t eat too much. I couldn’t exercise so I didn’t want to be miserable and fat. How do you feel tonight? Like Honey Boo Boo!

Heidi Klum at the Tents

Rachel Roy and Gabrielle Union at Roy’s show

Nine days, hundreds of shows, and thousands of things to discuss! Without further ado, your Daily digest of the very best moments of New York Fashion Week! ☛ First things first: the editrixes! Carine Roitfeld, whose porno-chic version of Vogue Paris earned her legions of fans, launched her own mag, CR Fashion Book, and landed herself the cover of The Daily’s Media Issue. ☛ The big fashion moments kicked off with strong showings from New York’s fierce foursome of young guns—Prabal Gurung, Joseph Altuzarra, Jason Wu, and Alexander Wang. ☛ J.Crew’s Jenna Lyons was among the revelers at Alexander Wang’s after party, which was held at the former Emigrant Bank space. “The first time I came here, I was helping out on a Spice Girls video for ‘Spice Up Your Life!’” she said. ☛ But leave it to Marc Jacobs to have the first major fashion moment of the week, with a groovy Edie Sedgwick-inspired collection that lasted all of six-and-a-half minutes. Each second was heavenly! ☛ Bright and early the next morning, Bianca Jagger was the surprise guest at Carolina Herrera’s show, wearing her usual white tux and entertaining the paparazzi. ☛ And then, the celebrity spotters went wild when Stacy Keibler (George Clooney’s girlf ) graced the front row of Vera Wang, leading chicsters to speculate that Wang could be designing a bridal dress for her! ☛ Iman toasted her new website, DestinationIman.com, at the Electric Room, while Jason Wu celebrated his La Perla collab with a bash at the Top of the Standard.

Your October cover story on Scientology is pretty serious. Are you scared they’ll come after you? No. We’ve taken on the Bush administration and Mike Ovitz, so I think we’re fine. What about Katie’s publicist? I really don’t care. “I moved, which was Who won’t grace your cover? the most dramatic There are certain people who are and horrible just angry with us, but other than experience ever. that, we sort of get everybody My old place was we want. too big for me—it Any marriage tips for Blake was lonely to come Lively and Ryan Reynolds? home to by myself. STAR TALK With Paris Hilton at Marlon Gobel

Would you have any desire to go to space? They asked me a couple of years ago to go with Richard Branson. I’m supposed to go, but I’m kind of nervous. I don’t want to get stuck up in space or come back a million years from now and be like, ‘Doh, all my friends are gone.’ It would be incredible, but I’d be scared. I fly around the world, but that’s a different story. Do you watch stars? Like stars in the sky? Not really. In L.A. there’s too much smog, but if I go camping on my ranch, I’ll enjoy them.

GETTING SLIMED! With Coco Rocha

What’s your least fave food? Anything slimy! Clams, squid—I’m not adventurous. Has anyone ever tricked you into eating something crazy? A few days ago I went to a meal and was trying to be impressive. I said, ‘Oh, I eat anything!’ Then the eel came out and I was like, ‘Forget it.’ Now that you live in Westchester, how do you nab a good train seat? I get a window seat on the side with the best view, facing the direction I’m going. No motion sickness!

BEER ALERT! With Mandy Moore at Band of Outsiders

How’s life? Great! I loved that people were relaxed and drinking beer at Billy Reid. Who in the fashion industry would you love to swap places with for a day? I don’t know if I’m knowledgeable about those kinds of people.... When you’re not at home or working, where can we find you? I like to hike in Griffith Park in California. Where would we never find you? At the mall.

Betsey Johnson’s

70th BIRTHDAY BASH

☛ But all parties were civilized compared to Betsey Johnson’s 70th birthday bash/fashion show at Espace. Cyndi Lauper’s performance was raucous, champers was partout, and as one reveler said, “I need a Xanax right about now.” ☛ Nicole Miller has her own post-show treatment plan. “I feel much better now that I’ve had my glass of champagne!” she said POOCH PATROL! backstage after showing her spirited and With Susan Sarandon sexy new collection. ☛ At Chris Benz’s show, What’s up with the canines? his celeb friends like Susan Sarandon and We’re neighbors with Chris [Benz]! LANCÔME GOES…PINK! Inspired partly by Japanese horror films, Lancôme makeup artist Daniel Jackson went with a very flushed look for Chris Benz’s Spring collection. “A little bit spooky and a little bit ethereal” was his concept, and it was certainly achieved, thanks to Lancôme Color Design Infinite Eye Shadow in Perpetual Pink and Lancôme Blush in Love in Pommettes D’Amour.
