PLEASANT GROVE HIGH SCHOOL AUDIO VISUAL CLASS

The Pleasant Grove-Lindon Chamber of Commerce was excited on March 18 to attend and present a $2,500 check to the Pleasant Grove High School Vikings KPGR/Audio Visual Class during its film festival. What a great way for our member businesses to share and express the impact these students can have in the business community with such a wide range of talents.

We are very passionate in building relationships that foster a better community. We are excited for them and are truly thankful for all those that made this happen. Thank you to Water Gardens Cinema 6 for hosting and letting these students showcase their many talents.

LINDON POLICE YOUTH ACADEMY

The Lindon City Police Department has started a Youth Police Academy to provide an opportunity for high-schoolaged students to learn about the roles and responsibilities of a police officer. The academy is a five-week program structured to give hands-on experience to participants/cadets interested in a potential career in law enforcement and other criminal justice fields.

Officers within the department teach aspects of police work such as patrol functions, investigations, crime scenes, firearms and officer safety. A majority of the academy is scenario based. After graduation from the academy, cadets will be given the opportunity to serve in the community during various city events, furthering their experience. If interested, they are welcome to become mentors for future youth academies.

This academy also creates an environment for officers to build relationships with the youth of our communities. Those relationships are invaluable for our officers as they work to build trust and improve our level of service.

We have been humbled by the support given to the academy by the Lindon City mayor and city council members along with the Pleasant Grove - Lindon Chamber of Commerce. We look forward to building on the success of our current cadets and plan to hold the academy annually. Information for future academy courses will be provided through social media and local high schools.
