Almost 700,000 people living with diabetes experience a mental or emotional health challenge every year.

In addition, many people living with diabetes experience shame due to misinformation and misconceptions about diabetes.

Between the 10th and 16th of July was National Diabetes Week. Here at Workers Blacktown, we invited Western Sydney Diabetes to set up shop inside the Club to spread awareness and help people understand the ins and outs of what diabetes is all about.

This is the 3rd year of ‘Heads Up Diabetes’ National Diabetes Week campaign. It was the Club’s goal to help reduce the burden with more compassion, reduce the blame with more understanding and help the people of Western Sydney get support.

Quarter Century Night

“Now, as we grow stronger, forging straight ahead, Blacktown Workers lift your glasses, here’s to the Old Tin Shed” – This line from the whole “Old Tin Shed” song was sung by over 150 loyal members who celebrated 25 years of membership on Saturday the 13th of August.

It was a night of jubilation! Over 150 members and their guests, enjoyed a 3-course meal, with entertainment performed by the great Simon Gillespie and our resident band who took us on a musical journey through Peter Allen’s life!

Kay Kelly the Workers Lifestyle Group President said “Tonight we celebrate a giant feat! To see so many members each year reach the 25-year milestone is amazing! We appreciate each one of you and thank you for your loyalty to the Workers.”

It has been a quarter century for our members who joined the Workers in 1996! We once again want to thank you for your continued support. We look forward to the next 25 years.
