FALL ALL STAR TEAM
Greetings, Since I arrived here in Ellensburg almost three years ago, I have been astonished with how much success one county can have when it comes to high school athletics. There are so many great teams, great players and great coaches that I knew I had to find a way to recognize their efforts on the field and in the community. My first spring here I was asked to pick one male and one female athlete of the year, but as a newspaper, we decided to do more to showcase the talent and drive of those associated with athletics in our area.
The next year I added team of the year, coach of the year, game of the year and most inspirational moment because I wanted to share those memories with current and future generations. For the second year in a row, we are taking it one step further. Each of the three sports seasons will have winners for male athlete, female athlete, coach and team, among others. At the end of the year, one winner from each category at an awards presentation. Thank you for your readership and support, Ryan Kuhn

Tia Andaya
S, Jr., Ellensburg Ellensburg junior volleyball player Tia Andaya is listed as an outside hitter and setter, but it did not seem like there was a position she did not play on the court. She filled the stat sheets every night. She would lead the team in assists, kills, while being one of the top dig and aces leaders. On a team with eight sophomores and two seniors, the Gonzaga verbal-commit became one of the most experienced players on the Bulldogs’ team. Andaya won the CWAC Player of the Year for the second consecutive year.

Kittitas’ quaterback Bryce Anderson (5) runs against Mabton during varsity football action on Oct. 13.
Senior quarterback Bryce Anderson had a lot of success after joining the Kittitas football team his junior year. Last year he got the Coyotes out to a 6-0 start, before Kittitas lost two of the last three games. After dominating wins over Highland and White Swan this year, Anderson came through in the clutch over the next two games. Kittitas beat Lyle-Wishram 32-30 in overtime and led a comeback against Liberty Christian with a 34-30 win. Anderson got one of the two EWAC quarterback second-team all-league selections.

Cle Elum-Roslyn girls soccer Some would think that there would be some difficulties for a new coach coming onto an experienced team. Cle Elum-Roslyn head soccer coach Mikayla Storer did not have that problem. She led the Warriors to a 15-4 overall record and their first-ever state tournament birth in school history. “She’s actually pretty great,” said senior defender Jamie Campbell before the season started. “She knows what she’s talking about and she’s able to communicate with us about all of it.”

Cle Elum-Roslyn football scores 26 unanswered points to take down Goldendale By MITCHELL JOHNSON sports intern CLE ELUM — Fireworks were booming after the Cle Elum-Roslyn High School homecoming football game on Oct. 20, but it was the Warriors defense that was making explosions in the second half. Cle Elum-Roslyn’s defense led the 8

Warriors to victory over Goldendale with 26 unanswered points. Cle ElumRoslyn won 26-14 to be selected as the Daily Record’s Fall All Star Game. “Defense has been pretty much lights out all year long, our offense has been slow to get going,” head coach Troy Hillberg said. Senior defensive lineman Joey Stone
returned a fumble back for a touchdown to lead the defense. “Everything Joey does for us is big,” Hillberg said. “He blocks punts for us, he sacks. He’s just a joy to be around.” Max Haverfield also returned an interception back for a touchdown and senior quarterback Karter Kinkade gave the Warriors an insurance touch-
down at the end of the game. Goldendale opened the game with a 59-yard, four-minute drive. Penalties hurt the Warriors on the opening drive. Two false starts, a personal foul and a sack moved Cle ElumRoslyn back 35 yards and forced a punt. On the Warriors next drive, they ran
15 plays in four minutes before turning the ball over on downs at Goldendale’s 18-yard line. A four-minute drive, 53-yard drive by Goldendale put the ball at the 9-yard line. Alex Mains threw to brother sophomore tight end Cameron Mains to give the Timberwolves a 14-0 lead after an extra point. With just over two minutes remaining in the half, Kinkade completed a 78-yard pass to senior wide receiver Tyler Anderson. The Warriors turned the ball over on downs with 15 yards to go. Cle Elum-Roslyn held Goldendale and attempted to get the ball into the end zone. Kinkade completed a 28-yard pass to Anderson with six seconds remaining, until they ran out of time. Goldendale led 14-0 at halftime. “We know what we’re capable of doing but we just didn’t do it in the first half,” Hillberg said. Stone striped the ball away
from Alex Mains and returned the fumble for 75 yards. A missed extra point gave Goldendale a one-point lead. “That was my first-ever touchdown so that meant a lot,” Stone said. “It was just crazy I got through — the line was pretty weak — I’m kind of a clutch performer.” Momentum changed right there as Mains hurt his shoulder on the play and did not return, Bland filled in at quarterback for the remainder of the game. With 30 seconds left in the third quarter, senior cornerback Max Haverfield picked off Bland and returned the ball for a touchdown. The Warriors held onto a five-point lead. Kinkade ran the ball in for 12-yard touchdown to extend the lead to 12 points. “At halftime we rallied. It was senior night, homecoming — we did it for the fans,” Stone said. Cle Elum-Roslyn plays Zillah in its season-finale on Oct. 27. Kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.

Ellensburg volleyball Debbie Landrie described her team as young all season but their record did not show it. Minus an occasional dropped first set, Ellensburg had lots of success. The Bulldogs won the last seven regular season games without dropping a set. With tough, experienced competition at the state tournament, the Bulldogs hit a wall. Ellensburg swept Liberty (Renton) in the first match, but got swept by White River. On the second day, a 3-1 loss to Fife sent the Bulldogs packing.
