2020 - Kittitas County SENIOR SPOTLIGHT
Welcome! The Daily Record’s Spring All-Star package for 2020 took a different turn this year. It’s hard to highlight individual student-athletes and teams when the spring season didn’t get a chance to commence as the COVID-19 pandemic shuttered sports all over the country. It’s disappointing without a doubt, because this is something the studentathletes will never get back.
So, instead, we, the Daily Record, focused on the seniors from each respective school and team in Kittitas County with comments from a few players who missed their final season but share what they relished and what they’ll miss. We hope to see sports back in action again this fall. Luke Olson

Leah Holmgren: “Being a part of XC (cross country) and track was the best thing about high school. I got to meet so many amazing people and grow so many wonderful friendships over the four years. I also had incredible coaches who I look up to and will continue to look up to even as I move forward with my next chapter. I am so grateful to have had the opportunities I had through running and I will miss every part of it. I think that being in such a great atmosphere has shaped me in such a positive way and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.” Morgan Olin: “Being a part of EHS softball
has brought me some of my closest friendships. Our team is like a second family, I wouldn’t change the time I got in a Bulldog uniform for anything. Scott Gant always made the season so much fun so missing out on my last year with him was hard. The hardest thing about missing out on this season was definitely losing the chance to spend time with my close friends before we go in different directions. I’m thankful that I get to continue my softball career because I know that some people got the last chance they ever had to play a sport they love taken from them.”
Davis Spencer: “Being a part of Ellensburg athletics is, for me, a once in a lifetime experience. There is a nothing quite like going to play a game and knowing the whole town is there to cheer you on. That’s what I love most about Ellensburg, the small town rallying behind its high school sports teams. Whether it was football, basketball, baseball, volleyball, soccer, cross country, track, etc. The sheer amount and love we all felt from our community meant everything. Ellensburg will always feel like a home to me and I know I will always hold Ellensburg close to my heart.” 2020 - Kittitas County SENIOR SPOTLIGHT

I wouldn’t trade my teammates or coaches for anyone. I loved game days and getting there early so I could spend time with my players and the coaches. Unfortunately, with COVID taking this season away, I have most definitely missed just playing in general. The talk on the baseball field, the sunflower seeds, the warm weather. I’m missing all of it right now.” Grace Allphin: “Missing my last season was pretty hard but I had three great years that I loved. I definitely missed the team atmosphere and competitive nature the most. I really missed it this year but I’m excited to see what next year’s team does.” 6

Now that my time has come and gone, I will forever be thankful for the experiences my teammates and I have earned, the friendships I have gained, the life lessons I have learned, and the fun I had being a Warrior. I will miss my teammates, our amazingly generous and supportive community, the Warrior tribe, and all of the coaches I have had over the years.” Grace Jackson: “My time at Cle ElumRoslyn High School has been really enjoyable, especially because of all the friendships I’ve made and coaches that have helped me grow as a person and player. I’m sad that I missed my chances of earning a state title but I’m happy looking back at all the memories I’ve made as a Warrior in athletics. I also have a lot of support from my family, friends, and the community moving forward into college. My support system has helped me through the tough times this year, in addition to years in the past.” 2020 - Kittitas County SENIOR SPOTLIGHT

This spring, the fields, courts, tracks and courses were silent and empty. It’s time to take them back.
To the athletes and coaches who sat out the season for the health of our community - thank you for your sacrifice.
