Welcome back to the Kittitas County Fair; an event that is dear to many residents in Kittitas County along with thousands of annual visitors who repeatedly attend year after year. It is heartwarming to see the Fair return in 2021. The excitement and happiness are palpable, and we are grateful. The Kittitas County Fair is possible, because of the massive behind-the-scenes efforts of numerous individuals who donate their time and talents to the success of this event. Volunteers work year-round to prepare and extra-long hours during Labor Day weekend to ensure the Fair is a memorable experience for everyone. The Kittitas County Board of Commissioners thanks you for your efforts in making this an event that draws thousands to Kittitas County. We thank you for making this a part of many family’s annual traditions. This is truly an event our community takes pride in; from the 4-H kids, to performers on the main Coke Stage. So, again, we say thank you to all you do to ensuring this is an annual success! Brett Wachsmith Kittitas County Commissioner, District #3 205 West Fifth Avenue, Suite 108 Ellensburg, WA 98926

7 • KITTITAS COUNTY FAIR GUIDE 2021
Have you ‘herd’ that the 2021 Kittitas County Fair is the place to be?! It has been nearly two years since we closed our gates and said so long after the 2019 Kittitas County Fair. The Fair Board never stopped working during this time, and we are so excited to welcome you back to a spectacular in person fair! The Kittitas County Fair was first organized in 1885 by local farmers and ranchers and has become a longstanding county tradition where our agricultural roots are showcased and our western heritage is celebrated, providing an event our community has supported and loved for years. Over the past 136 years, the fair has only been cancelled during 1917-1919 because of WWI and the 2020 COVID shut down. After too long of a break, it’s finally time to open our gates again! Whether you are a long-time resident of Kittitas County, a newcomer or just visiting, there is something for everyone to enjoy! Whether you are connecting with old friends outside the barns, tasting that yummy elephant ear that you have been craving, testing your thrill level on a ride from our new carnival, mining for gold in Frontier Village, relaxing while you watch the entertainment or taking some time to walk through the Home Arts, 4-H and Armory Buildings to look at all the amazing things everyone did over the last year, you will quickly see why the Fair was voted the 2021 best place to take kids in Kittitas County! Along with enjoying all the fair has to offer, be sure to grab your cowboy hat and ticket to the World-Famous Ellensburg Rodeo! This amazing experience wouldn’t be possible without the hard work and support from our Fair Board, KVEC Staff, Superintendents, Sponsors, 4-H and FFA Leaders, Families, Exhibitors and countless volunteers who all come together to help make our County Fair a success! If you see one of these people when you are out and about, let them know you appreciate their hard work. Share the news that you ‘herd’ it’s the place to be, and we will see you at fair! H
ello Rodeo fans! Welcome Back to the 2021 World Famous Ellensburg Rodeo. We are excited to be back better than ever this Labor Day weekend, and our committee returns to you as a 2020 Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame inductee. We are now a recognized world-class event! Thank you for joining us for a weekend full of rodeo action, music, food and family fun for everyone. This last year certainly had its challenges, and we are proud of our team who attempted to make every effort to put on this event last year, but with all the restrictions placed on us we could not make it happen. This year it’s full- on rodeo-tainment all weekend long. Wednesday we kick things off with our new partnership with WestStar’s “Best of the Best” roping event held in our arena this year for the first time. That night, head on downtown to enjoy some great music at the Ellensburg Downtown Association’s “Hoedown in the Downtown” sponsored by the Ellensburg Rodeo in support of all our local businesses. Come down to Rockin the Arena Thursday night with David Lee Murphy and featuring Chance McKinney. Patriot Night is Friday where we have our first performance of the rodeo with a very special presentation that has become a tradition — saluting our heroes from the past year. This year’s honorees are nurses and more specifically local Kittitas Valley nurses. Saturday morning get your spot along the downtown streets to witness one of the bests western parades anywhere over Labor Day weekend. Saturday night we have the PRCA Xtreme Bulls performance. Sunday opens the day with Tough Enough to Wear Pink raising awareness in our community for breast cancer and supporting women in the fight against this disease. That night, the Ellensburg Rodeo Posse will host an admission free show beginning at 6:30. Monday is our finale and championship round, where the top Cowboys and Cowgirls will vie for the top spot in their respective events as well as our all-around category, and win their share of the purse and a coveted Ellensburg Rodeo belt buckle. This rodeo is organized, produced and made possible by our all-volunteer Board of Directors, Top Hands, sponsors, and hundreds of volunteers during the year and Labor Day weekend. Please join me in thanking them all as you see them this weekend. I want to thank you all for the privilege and honor to serve as President of this world class association and event. Now, let’s go Watch ‘Em Buck! President Ellensburg Rodeo

the Corral
enjoy beer, wine & music under the grandstands!
John Dunnigan B
ack by popular demand, John Dunnigan is the featured performer in The Corral this year. A California native, he “took the backroads to Montana three decades ago and never left (he’s no fool).” John is known for his offbeat, and often hilarious, original songs like, “I’m Too White to Sing Reggae,” “Ballad of the Three Legged Man,” and “I Don’t Touch, I Just Look.” He has played with Bonnie Raitt, Asleep at the Wheel, Norton Buffalo, The Dirt Band, Kris Kristofferson and Bruce Springsteen. John had appeared on stage with many artists, ranging from Jerry Jeff Walker to comedian Jeff Foxworthy. We are thrilled to welcome this talented musician back to Ellensburg! And don’t forget to enjoy a beer or wine while you’re in The Corral -- if you’re not too busy dancing and laughing.
“If Jimmy Buffett, James Taylor, and John Prine were joined together in some bizarre musical cloning experiment, the outcome would be John Dunnigan.” 28 • KITTITAS COUNTY FAIR GUIDE 2021
ROCK BOTTOM BOYS T
he whole family will love The Rock Bottom Boys, who join the Fair this year with some down-home fun that is sure to tickle your funny bone. Three-part harmonies and beloved bluegrass melodies are only half the story with these boys. As you tap your toes to “Wabash Cannonball,” it might take a minute to realize the lyrics are from the classic rock anthem, “Pinball Wizard.” Take a seat out by the old front porch, kick off your shoes and reconnect with your inner hillbilly, as you enjoy this lighthearted, wholly original and high-energy tunes of The Rock Bottom Boys.

Yakama Indian Dancers P
utting on a display of Central Washington’s local Native American culture, the Yakama Indian Nation will be celebrating the traditions of their tribe through song and interpretive dance. Dancers wear traditional ceremonial clothing and have been a part of the Kittitas County Fair and Ellensburg Rodeo since the beginning of both events. See the performances on Saturday and Sunday and visit their camp on all five days of the fair, north of the Western Village to learn more about their culture and traditions.
