March 25, 2013 To Whom It May Concern:
Greetings from the Compton High School Science Department! We would like to cordially invite you and your organization to participate in our First Annual “All Things Science Day” on May 24, 2013. This is our very first day of this kind on our campus. This event is a science expo of sorts, with the goal in mind of engaging our students in the world of today and tomorrow: Science! At its inception, this day was designed to support several of our department goals: First, to give a forum and day for our campus to celebrate science and how its many facets constantly affect us; Second, to give a platform for the entire school to celebrate all the hard work and effort our students have put forth this academic school year; and lastly, to put our best foot forward as we will invite our feeder school 7th and 8th graders on campus for middle school recruitment day. We look forward to your participation and support in this endeavor. With you partnership in this event we hope to make this an annual end of the year celebration that everyone involved can look forward to. In preparation for this day we are looking for interactive displays, speakers and science fair judges. The judging of the science fair projects will be held on Thursday the 23rd of May, with the winners being announced during our “Blast to the Stars” Rocket competition on Friday 24th. We are planning to have four venues setup that correspond to the STEM fields: Health Sciences, Engineering (Environmental), Technology, Construction Science, and the Classical research fields will be represented in several of our classrooms. The setup of these venues will occur the morning of the 24th. We will also have demonstrations of our course curriculum. We are looking forward to this event and hope you will come help of celebrate and promote “ALL THINGS SCIENCE”! If you or someone you know is interested in participating please RSVP by April 15th, 2013. Please feel free to pass this invitation along to anyone in industry that is interested in inspiring a generation to participate in the wonderful world of Science. If you have any question or concerns, please direct those to our Department Chairperson, Dr. Lorenita Holloway. WE are eagerly awaiting your confirmation of participation. RSVP to: dr.holloway@ymail.com or Call 310-635-3881.
