The weirdest Greek delicacies

Well most of you, might think that Greek food is mostly moussakas, spinach pie, Greek salad and generally a cuisine based on the Mediterranean diet. This is partly true since there is another unknown part of the Greek culinary tradition which we can say contains some edgy foods. Some of these dishes are common for Greek people, they do not find anything strange about them but this is not the case for many travellers who visit this country and remain speechless when they taste or just hear about those traditional foods. Let’s have a look at some of them…

Patsas


If you ever visit the capital of Grecce , Athens , you can taste “patsas” at the central market of the city, in Epirus one of the oldest traditional restaurants which operates 24 hours a day. Of course you can taste it anywhere in this country. “Patsas” is a soup made of pork belly, legs, ears and generally most of the parts of the animal which otherwise we would have thrown away. It is served with lemon or vinegar, chili peppers, salt and pepper. It is considered the best food after a night of heavy drinking since it is soothing for the stomach.

Octopus ink sack

This is not a very common dish even for Greeks. It is prepared in some Eastern islands of the Aegean sea, it is usually the ink sack of an octopus but you may find of cuttlefish, fried with some flour, but very carefully since we do not want it to blow and remain without its ink, which give a distinguished flavor to this truly unique food.
