O U R MI SSI O N “Above and Beyond offers the highest level of innovative longterm, evidence-based and informed addiction recovery services to those who are unable to pay for them, while providing assistance with housing and employment. WHO WE ARE
We are an educated team with deep roots, who keep our compassionate hearts and minds fresh through a unique self-care program which identifies and debilitates second hand trauma. This enables us to counter the dysfunction of our clients with consistent love and optimism.
WHAT WE DO
While offering five proven support services (AA, SMART Recovery, Women and Men for Sobriety, ACA, and WRAP), we assess for psychologicial disorders (Co-Occurring Disorders) so that we can address the problem(s) instead of the symptoms. We help our clients to figure out their meaning, to love themselves, and to set realistic goals.
HOW WE DO IT
Most of our groups, including our AA, ACA and SMART groups, are interlaced with REBT, unconditional selfacceptance principles and therapeutic methodologies of uncovering personal meaning and purpose in our client's lives. As well, we offer intensive Outpatient counseling, Brainspotting, job readiness coaching, housing-first assistance, street yoga, acupuncture, EFT, rage reduction, aloneliness alleviation, transgenerational trauma, and many other unique trauma-specific groups (including a healing "Improv Therapy" Group).

Above and Beyond Family Treatment Center began as an idea in Bryan Cressey's mind, one that took root like a remarkable and vibrant flower in the midst of a barren landscape on the West Side of Chicago. We have become an oasis to the invisible, the ignored, and the uninsured substance abusers of Chicago. We have grown into a monument to the power of a selfless idea built on hope and delivered with deeply compassionate competence. Today, Above and Beyond the nation’s only outpatient treatment centers that offers a Vestibule format, educating every client about various treatment options and support groups, allowing them to choose the best option based on their own journey to recovery. Above and Beyond's core philosophy is based on Harm Reduction (with Abstinence as an ideal goal), which accepts every client exactly where they are and provides the education, support and skills to help them achieve their self-defined goals. In the short term, we support any behavior that reduces harm from substance abuse. In the long term, some clients will choose life-long abstinence while others will strive to control and manage their use.

S U P P OR T P R O G R A MS 12-Step Meetings are based on the 12-step recovery process right out of the Big Book. It is for those ready to lay down their fight and declare "powerlessness". S.M.A.R.T Recovery (Self Management And Recovery Training) is a selfempowerment program for anyone trying to regain their birthright "powerfulness" of their own choices. Women For Sobriety This national self-help gender-specific program helps females achieve sobriety and sustain ongoing recovery through community. They change their worlds!
REBT (Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy) focuses on the cognitive elements of disturbance. Changing a core irrational belief can cause profound improvements emotionally and behaviorally. Our REBT is facilitated by one of the world's foremost experts in the field, Mr. Terry London. Both Art Therapy and Movement are forms of therapy that use personal expression and creative process to improve a person’s physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. It allows our clients to express themselves nonverbally. Our Street Yoga brings trauma informed yoga instruction to people who do not get much opportunity to stretch, deep breathe, or experience stretching motions. Chairs are sometimes used.

S U C C E S S - BAS ED S ER VI C ES Trauma Rooting out and addressing Trauma is a centerpiece of our programs. Over half the individuals seeking Substance Abuse Disorder treatment meet criteria for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) with some survey censuses indicating up to 85%. This means that if we treat Substance Abuse without addressing its underlying cause, we are only treating the symptoms of what’s wrong. Our groups and individual Trauma sessions are exceptional and holistically healing. Housing Our “Housing First” model is built on evidence that the success of sustainable, long-term recovery is bolstered when our clients are housed and employed. Our Housing program offers case management services that assist in choosing from Chicago’s array of appropriate options. Employment Anyone can participate in our proprietary life skill building and job readiness curriculum, and we envision this service to be critical in preparing our clients for a productive and rewarding job search. Included in our esteem-building curriculum are workshops in resumé writing which is uploaded to a Cloud Server using My Rebuilt Life's proprietary technology. Innovative Modalities At Above and Beyond we do not believe in one-size-fits-all and have embraced some of the most powerful science and research based programs available anywhere, such as: Acupunture, EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique or "tapping"), Life Skills, Aloneliness Alleviation, Overcoming Procrastination, Logotherapy, Learning to Love Yourself, Goals, and a unique Spiritual Group. Our Men For Sobriety group is self-standing and open to all. By expertly shepherding the pieces of our clients’ shattered former lives, we’re able to help them build new ones full of hope, reintegration and, most of all, meaning. We're evolving to meet their need.
