Do Good Design
How massages intended to influence the behaviour of large audiences are selected, created, delivered ? Countries often highlight objects from their own production, thereby they avoid imports’ costs and bring money to the local businesses and to State coffers in general. For example: dairy products in France or cigarettes in the United States. Before working on a design project, the designers observe the population in order to determine its needs, what it appreciate, what catch it attention, what is fashionable. They can draw inspiration from their concurrents too. Thus, the designs made are more adapt, are likely to affect more consumers and they can make more money. How people are portrayed and represented visually ? In general, advertising shows people who is happy, healthy, under an advantageous physique (not overweight, not too ugly, too sickly), the universal image that we can have of someone good.
The designers can target their future consumers choosing to represent such and such a category of person in particular in their designs and advertisement. How raw materials for designed objects are consumed ? Raw materials used for design objects are diverse and have to underline at best the product. They are the communication support, the creative «surface». They can add value to a product giving positive pictures to the audiences, for example: the American Express «Black Card» made of titanium give a picture of luxury and rarity, at the opposite of the classic credit card made of plastic(cheap). In the same way, the biodegradable materials are increasingly used for the environment’s respect giving a picture of good product to consumer.
