ROMAN MONUMENTS OF CATALONIA
Tarragona Amphitheatre
• It was used for entertainment, performances and sports like gladiators’ combats, chariot races and executions.
• It is a Roman amphitheater in the city of Tarragona. • It has built in the 2nd century AD. • It could house up 15000 spectators.
Devil’s Bridge • It is a roman bridge, part of the roman aqueduct built to supply water to the city of Tarraco (now Tarragona). • The Devil’s bridge aqueduct took water from the Francólí river. It probably dates from the time of Augustus.
• It is composed of two levels of arches.
Temple of Augustus • It was a Roman temple built during the Roman empire in the colony of Barcino (modern day Barcelona). • It had built by Tiberius emperor to honour Augustus emperor.
• It had 6 columns, now there are only 3.
Escipions Tower • Funerary tower built by the romans outside of Tarraco (now Tarragona) next to the Via Augusta. • It was built in the middle of the 1st century AD.
• It was dedicated to the God of death and resurrection Phrygian Attis.
