WHAT OUR STUDENTS ARE SAYING I love how accessible the city is—the lively art and food scenes, the endless options for outdoor activities, and its diversity and openness to people from different backgrounds. TRILCE ZEGARRA Executive MBA, 2017 I like the open and welcoming nature of the Denver natives—the city really emulates the best of both worlds, from the East and West Coasts. I also like to explore the art districts and breweries downtown, or just cruise along mountain roads. RAHUL PAI KOCHIKAR Denver MBA, 2018 My favorite thing about Denver is that it has the opportunities of a city, but the charm of a small town. JULIA MORRIS Master’s in Marketing, 2018

I love the modern community and frontier spirit here. So many outgoing and driven people from around the world make Denver special. Locals and transplants give this city and state an energy that pushes me to be at my best. ERIC STROMGREN Master’s in Business Analytics, 2019

My favorite thing about living in Denver is the sense of adventure you get from being outdoors and near the mountains. KATRINA HU Master of Accountancy, 2017

MBA VS. SPECIALIZED MASTER’S

C HOOSE THE PROGRAM THAT’S RIGHT FOR YOU What’s the Difference Between an MBA and a Specialized Master’s Degree? The primary distinction between an MBA and a specialized master’s degree is breadth versus depth. An MBA is an internationally recognized degree designed to develop the broad-based skills required for careers in business and management. Alternatively, a specialized master’s degree is designed to provide a deep dive into a specific discipline, such as accounting, applied quantitative finance, business analytics, management, marketing or real estate and the built environment. It’s important to first identify your career goals because one size does not fit all when determining the best path to take. However, students who pursue certain degrees often have similar goals. MBA Students who pursue an MBA often want to achieve a greater leadership position within an organization, or they may be in the process of switching careers. MBA students may also be interested in starting their own businesses. MBA candidates typically have three to seven years of professional work experience before starting a program; those with more than 10 years may be best suited for an executive MBA program.

Specialized Master’s Students who pursue a specialized master’s degree often want to become a specialist within a particular field. Candidates have diverse backgrounds and varying levels of experience. Candidates may have recently completed an undergraduate degree or they may have been in the workforce for a few years. Others are experienced, seasoned professionals looking to enhance their understanding of a specific discipline.

Why an MBA? I always wanted to earn an MBA and knew that in order to grow in my career, I needed to increase my business knowledge. I was looking for a program that would help me grow within my current company, earn the chance at a C-level position and expand my knowledge to one day start my own company. I felt Daniels was the school that could help me meet these goals.

Why a Specialized Master’s? A specialized master’s degree gives your undergraduate education an edge. I was an English and psychology double major, and felt that in order to get a job in the business world, I needed more formal education as well as an understanding of the job landscape and career paths in marketing.

THE WORLD IS YOUR CLASSROOM At the Daniels College of Business, we believe that exposure to other cultures and countries is critical to lifelong learning. We want you to experience the complexities, challenges and rewards of global business firsthand. That’s why our graduate business programs include a global component. Take a look at some of the international travel courses offered in our MBA and specialized master’s programs. Finance Capitals of the World. Immerse yourself in global finance as you learn the concepts, tools, methodologies and practices used in different markets. Meet with mentors in finance capitals around the world, including New York, Chicago, London, Brussels and Belize. You’ll participate in a series of preparatory lectures covering many aspects of asset management and investment banking, and then spend a week visiting a variety of financial firms learning from individuals who work in these fields. Denver MBA Global Challenge. Working cross-culturally on a major business issue, you’ll travel to countries like Australia, Brazil, Cambodia, India, Israel, Kenya, Norway, Peru or Uganda—to name just a few. If you can perform in the context of a new country with diverse perspectives, practices and people, you’ll be a high performer anywhere in the world. Professional MBA International Immersion. With a focus on emerging markets and developing economies, you select the destination of the Professional MBA international trip with your cohort. Following the Global Business course and weeks of market feasibility research, you’ll travel to diverse countries such as Colombia, South Africa and Turkey to explore the challenges and rewards of sustainable development. Executive MBA Global Experience. The Executive MBA global experience will provide a hands-on understanding of emerging markets. As a cohort, you’ll select from a diverse list of countries such as Rwanda, Mongolia, Vietnam and Chile. Your primary research conducted overseas will include industry analysis and identifying strategic opportunities, to be paired with secondary research conducted on campus. The global perspective you gain will forever impact your domestic thought.

I went on a global trip to Uganda and Rwanda as part of the Denver MBA Global Challenge curriculum. The most memorable part of that experience, from a business school perspective, was the opportunity to work in a foreign setting with different cultural norms, expectations and ways of doing business. I think that kind of experience would be beneficial for anyone. ALEX ROBB Denver MBA, 2018

COMPETITIONS, WORKSHOPS & CLUBS At Daniels, we take hands-on learning to a whole new level. We’ll get you out of the classroom and into the world interacting with business leaders, solving actual business problems and using your skills when the stakes are real. From case competitions to leadership workshops and innovation centers, there’s no shortage of ways to get involved. Take a peek at some of the experiential learning opportunities we provide.

I got involved with student organizations and case competitions to practice leadership skills and gain exposure to real-world business problems. Because of those experiences, I’ve acquired patience and collaboration skills. BRIONNA SIMONS Master’s in Marketing, 2018

I participated in Net Impact and the Outdoor Industry Club. As a passionate outdoorsman and business student, marrying the two seemed like a no-brainer. Net Impact provides consulting projects where students work with a company and solve real industry issues. The experience was great. The Outdoor Industry Club brought in guest speakers to discuss how to lead in a growing industry. JOSH TRACY Master’s in Management, 2018
