A LETTER FROM DEAN CHOUDHURY

Greetings from the Daniels College of Business!

I am delighted that you are considering our graduate programs. At Daniels, we’re intentional about delivering an experience that enables you to create immediate value. The marketplace is defined by staggering levels of change, increased competitive pressures, global connectivity and technological disruptions. Problem resolution, critical and analytical thinking, agility and cultural awareness are just a few of the attributes required to succeed in the 21st-century economy.

To keep our students prepared, we are constantly evaluating and re-evaluating the professional landscape—creating and developing a variety of programs to match. In just the last year, we have introduced a new master’s degree in digital leadership, a number of professional certifications and innovative short courses we call Sprints.

In our programs you’ll be challenged with meaningful, action-based learning experiences, enriching co-curricular opportunities—including case and business plan competitions— and critical and thoughtful debates among your peers and faculty. Simply put, Daniels graduates are in demand because they leave us market-ready with creative problem-solving and strategic-thinking skills. What’s more, they possess the character and self-awareness that are valued by today’s hiring partners. During your time in the program and after you graduate, the invaluable, global Daniels network of more than 40,000 alumni stands ready to help. The connections you make here will open doors and create lifelong ties.

Firmly rooted in ethics and principle-centered leadership, our curricula and community will offer you an enhanced experience that results from sustained exposure to differences. Our innovative approach to business education includes commitments to both the public good and to our own standards of integrity.

On behalf of the Daniels community, I look forward to partnering with you to accelerate your career and transform your life.

Members are an interdisciplinary group of students from business, law, natural sciences, engineering and computer science. Hosted by the Commercial Real Estate Development Association, this challenge tasks student teams with creating a vision for a selected property, conducting market research on the property’s uses, working with a local architectural firm to assist them in the project’s design, and refining the vision with respect to the zoning and entitlements carried by the property.

DO YOU WANT A 16- OR 24-CREDIT CERTIFICATE?

The 16-credit specialized certificate

This certificate lets you quickly earn a credential with four tightly focused foundation courses that build your skills in a specific area. While this certificate is not eligible for federal financial aid, students are eligible to receive meritbased scholarships.

The 24-credit advanced certificate

This certificate starts with the same foundation courses as a 16-credit certificate, then adds two more courses that either delve into the topics in more depth or allow you to explore electives. It's designed for students who are looking to develop more extensive skills or are planning to pursue a master's degree. The 24-credit certificate is eligible for both federal financial aid and scholarships.

SAMPLE PROGRAMS

Daniels currently offers a variety of certificates to help students boost their knowledge and career outlook. Both 16-credit and 24-credit certificates are available in each subject. See a few of our popular programs below:

Business Analytics

These certificates offer a deep dive into critical analysis and decision-making skills through the lens of data analytics. You'll learn basic coding principles, database design principles and data modeling techniques.

Corporate Finance

These certificates provide a deep dive into critical finance skills, including a foundational background in accounting and finance, giving you the skills you need to understand the financial performance of organizations, contribute to financial planning and evaluate investment opportunities.

Digital Transformation

Our certificates in digital transformation include immersive Sprints in emerging technologies, analytics and leadership skills needed to digitally transform organizations. You'll learn through hands-on, real-world projects.

Leadership

These graduate certificates provide a foundation in individual and organizational leadership, giving you the insights you need to motivate teams and organizations to meet their strategic goals.

PATHWAYS TO A MASTER’S

Certificates are flexible, and there are several ways they can fit into your education at Daniels. If you start with a certificate, you can choose to continue and complete a master’s program. Or, if you’re a master’s degree student, you can add a certificate to your qualifications before or after you graduate. You must earn a B or better in all classes to transfer your credits to a master’s degree program.

SCHOLARSHIPS

All applicants for both 16- and 24-credit certificates are eligible for merit scholarships. Candidates will automatically be considered for scholarships when they are admitted to the certificate program. There is no separate application required.

GRADUATE PROGRAMS

The primary distinction between an MBA and a specialized master’s degree is breadth versus depth. An MBA is an internationally recognized degree designed to develop the broadbased skills required for careers in business oversight and management.

Alternatively, a specialized master’s degree is designed to provide a deep dive into a specific discipline, such as accounting, business analytics, digital leadership, finance, management, marketing, or real estate and the built environment.

MBA PROGRAMS

Students who pursue an MBA often want to achieve a greater leadership position within an organization, or they may be in the process of switching careers. MBA students may also be interested in starting their own businesses. Earning an MBA can add both short- and long-term value to your career in the business sector and beyond. In addition to increased earning potential and career opportunities, the benefits of getting an MBA can be measured in less quantifiable ways, such as building a dynamic network, growing real-world skills and focusing on leading with innovation and integrity.

SPECIALIZED MASTER’S

Students who pursue a specialized master’s degree often want to become a specialist within a particular field. Candidates have diverse backgrounds and varying levels of experience.

Candidates may have recently completed an undergraduate degree or they may have been in the workforce for a few years. Others are experienced, seasoned professionals looking to enhance their understanding of a specific discipline.

The Denver MBA

SAMANTHA LAIRD

The Denver MBA, 2022

The experiential learning is an amazing opportunity that I didn’t see at other schools. By consulting with clients and working with real companies, I’m able to apply what I’m learning in the classroom to real business situations.

Imagine building a start-up, supporting an organization that works for the social good, consulting with a local corporation and traveling the world to help a business solve a major problem. You’ll experience all these things as a student in the Denver MBA program. In just 21 months, this full-time program will push you to solve real-world business challenges, provide opportunities for you to work alongside organizations and give you access to a diverse network of business leaders. With the Denver MBA—one of the most innovative management business degrees around—you’ll leave Daniels ready to change the way the world does business.

THE CHALLENGES

Each challenge emphasizes a different dimension of your development. Together, they form a cumulative experience that effectively launches your career.

Entrepreneurship Challenge

You may have a great idea for a business, but how do you get started? Using design thinking you’ll build a personalized toolkit, create a variety of potential solutions, and test and substantiate your ideas. At the end of this challenge, you and your team will pitch a validated and viable solution to an existing customer problem. 10 WEEKS

Social Good Challenge

Through engagement with community stakeholders, you’ll evaluate possible responses to identified social issues and create a plan to address them. This consulting project with a local nonprofit will allow you to apply coursework to real-world challenges. 10 WEEKS

Corporate Challenge

You’ll work with companies on a challenging business issue to deliver actionable results while further developing capabilities to succeed in complex environments. Working on a team, you’ll play the outside consultant role and provide value to corporate partners. 10 WEEKS

Global Challenge

Integrating learning outcomes from the three previous challenges, you’ll work with an organization on a major problem, providing an opportunity to balance cultural and business issues. The first 10 weeks are spent preparing on campus in class once a week, followed by a two-week working trip to your global destination. During the final five weeks, you’ll be back on campus working with your team to finalize your deliverable to your organization. 17 WEEKS

A customized or interdisciplinary concentration option is also available.

Most electives are 10-week courses. Six electives must be taken as part of the curriculum.

Leadership Development

Over the course of the 21 months, you’ll develop your personal and team leadership style with the support of an executive coach. You’ll also participate in our signature Peak Days of quarterly experiential and career workshops.

Once I learned about the MBA@Denver program, I realized there is an option for a busy professional like me, even with work travel. Their support system and online platform are accommodating and quite engaging. It has been extremely beneficial for me to advance my knowledge and make me more impactful in my career.

Complete your self-paced coursework on your own schedule and connect with your classmates through weekly 90-minute, live, on-screen sessions. As you grow your skills and knowledge base, you’ll also grow your network through our outstanding faculty and distinguished Daniels alumni. The MBA@Denver program is committed to making you indispensable to your organization.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

A Collaborative Online Environment

Class discussions are informed by current business issues and class assignments. You’ll meet face-to-face on screen to work on group projects and connect with your classmates. Applying theory, you’ll solve current business problems together with your classmates and professors. Using a mobile app, you can work on your tablet or other mobile device from anywhere around the world—even offline.

A Face-to-Face Experience

To increase your network beyond the live sessions, you’ll attend two required in-person immersive learning experiences; choose from options such as a visit to DU’s campus, New York, Seattle, Italy, South Africa, Australia, Singapore and other locations. These multi-day events give you the chance to push your leadership skills further and meet classmates, faculty and alumni in person. You’ll have the option to extend your visit abroad and learn more about global business in that country. Additionally, you will be able to take your electives on campus if you choose to do so.

A Deep Connection to Your Faculty

MBA@Denver faculty teach both online and in class in our residential programs at Daniels and care deeply about connecting with you. You can expect to receive extensive feedback on your work as well as quick responses to your emails. Our faculty are experienced, not only in the graduate classroom, but also in business. Half of our faculty have started and/or owned their own businesses, and most consult as part of their portfolio.

An Extension of the Campus Community

As an MBA@Denver student, you’ll be as much a part of the DU and Daniels communities as our on-campus students. You’ll have access to career coaching, academic resources, mentorship programs, networking events, student gatherings and more. All students—whether you are on campus or online—are invited to walk across the stage at both graduation ceremonies, Academic Hood and Commencement, to celebrate the hard work that goes into earning a graduate degree.

SAMPLE COURSE SEQUENCE WITH CONCENTRATION

MBA@Denver courses require both synchronous and asynchronous work. Synchronous work refers to the weekly live sessions that accompany MBA@Denver courses. Each course requires a 90-minute live session each week, affording students the unique opportunity to interact with each other and the instructor in real time. Asynchronous work refers to the self-paced coursework that students complete on their own.

This 60-credit online program can be completed in as few as 21 months. Participation in two immersions is required for graduation.

This course sequence pertains to students who are taking two classes per quarter and who are also pursuing a concentration. Students are able to take classes at their own pace and can choose to pursue the general MBA track instead of choosing a concentration.

Current concentration options available online are: finance, marketing, executive healthcare administration and executive leadership. Additional in-person concentration options are available including business analytics, accounting, and real estate and the built environment. Students also have the option to complete a customized (self-designed) concentration.
