Students in grades k-6 welcomed author and educator, Kevin Kurtz on April 19th with posters, a custom made parking sign, illustrated quotes, book covers, bookmarks, and decorations based on his nonfiction picture books. He acknowledged that he had never been at a school where he felt more welcome and was totally impressed by the level of questions the students asked. His presentations shared his vast knowledge and fascinating facts about the animals of the salt marsh and the mountain as well as his writing technique and experiences. He also spoke to Miss Rhinehartâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s eighth grade science students about science related career opportunities and his two month experiences researching underwater volcanoes. Student reaction to his visit has been extremely rewarding including a class asking to have one of his books reread after the visit, students sharing sightings of animals he mentioned, writing him notes voluntarily, and the youngest audience members recalling the most specific details about the animals.

When a new client settled into his chair in my office the other day, he looked around and said “You are really into skulls and bones aren’t you?” He was referring to the numerous full size reproductions of human skeletons, skulls and other body parts I have in my office. These are the relatively small internal muscles that essentially hold the shoulder joint together and enable rotary movements of your upper arms. Some sports that use rotator cuff mus-

Begin with one exercise each for the internal and external rotator muscles, and progress to two exercises each as these muscles become better conditioned. When you can comfortably complete 10 repetitions of these exercises, switch to a higher-resistance elastic band for progressive strengthening of the shoulder rotator muscles. Although one set of each exercise is sufficient, you may do two or more sets with a one-minute recovery period between successive sets, if you desire. Perform these exercises two non-consecutive days a week. Ideally, you should perform the shoulder rotation exercises at the conclusion of your standard strength training session. INTERNAL ROTATION – ARM VERTICAL

Stand with your right side toward the door, your right upper arm against your side (vertical), your right forearm turned outward toward the door, with your hand grasping the other end of the taut elastic band.
