Navigating the Path to Success: A Look at DANTES Academic Skills Training (AST)

In today’s fast-paced academic landscape, students constantly seek effective strategies to excel in their studies and future careers. The Online Academic Skills Course (OASC), enhanced by a live tutor and My Academic Predictor (MAP), emerges as a powerful tool to equip service members with the essential skills and insights needed to navigate the challenges of education and beyond. This comprehensive program offers a multi-faceted approach to learning, enabling service members to harness their full potential and achieve their goals.

The integration of no-cost tutoring into the OASC is a very valuable learning enhancement. Unlike traditional self-paced online courses, OASC live, on-demand tutoring fosters personalized and interactive learning experiences.

Service members can engage in real-time discussions, ask questions, and receive immediate feedback, enhancing their comprehension and retention of the course material. This direct interaction with knowledgeable tutors creates an environment where students can clarify doubts, deepen their understanding, and build a strong foundation in various subjects.

One of the standout features of the course is the My Academic Predictor tool. This tool forecasts a student’s future academic progress by analyzing past performance and learning patterns. This predictive analysis provides insights into potential challenges and enables proactive measures to be taken. Service members can tailor their study strategies, allocate time efficiently, and focus on areas that need improvement. This framework empowers learners to take charge of their education, refine their study habits, and work smarter to achieve better outcomes.

Beyond academic performance, the OASC instills invaluable life skills. The curriculum emphasizes time management, critical thinking, and effective communication—skills that transcend academia and translate into professional success. By mastering these skills early on, students are better prepared to tackle challenges in the workplace and contribute meaningfully to their chosen fields.

Furthermore, the course’s integration of technology enhances accessibility and flexibility. With online resources available 24/7, students can study at their own pace and convenience, accommodating diverse schedules and learning preferences. This flexibility is particularly beneficial for non-traditional learners, working professionals, and those balancing multiple commitments.

In conclusion, the OASC, complemented by nocost, on-demand tutoring, and the MAP tool, offers a holistic approach to education beyond remote memorization. By fostering personalized learning experiences, predicting academic progress, and equipping students with essential life skills, this comprehensive program empowers learners to excel academically and thrive in their future endeavors. As the educational landscape continues to evolve, investing in innovative and student-centric approaches is a strategic move toward a successful and fulfilling educational journey.

Al Asad Air Base Opens Education Center

AL ASAD AIR BASE, Iraq – Deployed Soldiers are now able to further their educational goals while on deployment thanks to the opening of the Tatanka Education Center on Al Asad Air Base, Iraq, July 15. The Education Center was spear headed by Lt. Scott Klein, the MWR and Education Director from US Army Central and 3rd Army, Capt. James McDonald and Staff Sgt. Weston Neiffer of the 109th Regional Support Group, and the DANTES Education Program.

The idea for the education center started in May as a way to improve educational options for Soldiers who wanted to work on a degree in their free time and as a response to the need for classroom space. A secondary USO building was identified and repurposed and after minimal construction was converted into the education center. The center has two furnished rooms with Wi-Fi so students can utilize the space for existing online education or reserve it for military classes.

Staff Sgt. Neiffer’s past civilian employment as the Associate Vice President of Military Services for National American University helped expedite the process through the University of Maryland Global Campus Europe as his previous job was to go to military installations and set up similar opportunities for military members. The long-term goal will be to have fully proctored exams and classes through the University of Maryland Global Campus Europe.

“Tatanka” is the Lakota word for Buffalo and was selected as the Task Force name of the 109th RSG located at AAAB. The members of the 109th chose Task Force Tatanka to pay tribute to the Lakota Sioux Nation’s culture, traditions, and heritage which are prominent in many Western South Dakota communities.

Education is important and doesn’t have to stop when service members are deployed! All they have to do is look for an education center wherever they find themselves. The education counselors will be happy to help them! Find more information at www.dantes.mil/OCONUS
