On 6th of February, traditional artist M’Toro Chamou and multicultural artist Dago Roots graced the stage of Alliance De Francaise in Dar, by performing their unique music to the mass crowd.

THE TWO ARTISTS BOTH FROM FRENCH REGIONS BROUGHT US A FIERY ENERGY TO THE CROWD, PROVING THAT MUSIC CONNECTS PEOPLE DESPITE THE LANGUAGE OR DIFFERENT CULTURE. PEOPLE’S HEARTS WERE TOUCHED BY THE SOULFUL INSTRUMENTS AND TRADITIONAL RHYTHMS PLAYED BY THESE TWO INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS.” The stage was first graced by M’Toro Chamou, a vigilant artist from Mayotte, who came to show us that he did not come to Dar just to play. His powerful music which was fully traditional made

the audience feel closely connected to France even if they hadn’t been there. That was so evident, as the crowd was seeing dancing to these traditional rhythms originating from the Mayotte. Originally from Mayotte, M’Toro Chamou mixes the transcendent vibrations of the traditional rhythms of its island, such as M’Godro,

He awed his audience with is music that brought a vibe of both traditional and modern music. This artist was a special one as he gave the audience a taste of different worlds at once. This particular fusion is what turned the crowd even more crazier, making people wonder where this talent has been all along. Influenced by his personal

Shigoma or Chengue, with western sounds blues-rock. An unclassifiable style, which is defined by Afro M’Godro Blues Rock. His new album Sika Mila, which means “preserve your culture” comes out April 26, 2019. An opus that showcases his culture, where Mahoran percussion such as dry and n’goma rub shoulders with electric guitars, the banjo and the ‘harmonica. An album with chiaded arrangements and catchy melodies, pure jewels, a trip that takes you from the islands of the Comoros archipelago to Mississippi. The later performance was from Dago roots who also originates from France, but from the Reunion Islands.

history between Madagascar, France and Reunion, Dagoroots reflects the music and sounds of his wanderings. As a musician and singersongwriter, this charismatic artist combines different rhythms in his sound creation that he calls the Rezzega, a mix of reggae, rock, jazz, traditional maloya, salegy and world music. Originally from Madagascar, where he bathed in music from an early age, Dago Roots touched his first guitar aged 6 years. At 14, he arrived in Reunion Island and took up formal guitar lessons. He also lived several years in France, where he had the opportunity to collaborate with other artists.

THE KILIMANJARO PREMIUM LAGER MARATHON 2019 The Peoples Race! By John Addison

A RESOUNDING SUCCESS’ IS THE ONLY WAY THE 17TH EDITION OF THE KILIMANJARO MARATHON CAN BE DESCRIBED. THE MOUNTAIN CAME OUT IN ALL HER GLORY, ALLOWING PARTICIPANTS AND SPECTATORS TO GAZE UP AT THE MAGNIFICENT SNOWCAPPED PEAK, WHILE SOAKING IN THE WARMTH OF THE AFRICAN SUN. RUNNERS FROM THE FOUR CORNERS OF THE EARTH CONVERGED ON THE SMALL TOWN OF MOSHI AND DID WHAT THEY DO BEST……RUN AND DRINK A FEW COLD KILI LAGERS!!

38 I Dar Life I APRIL 2019

T

his year the race implemented a pre-race registration platform on line and via Tigo Pesa, to allow the event to better control the numbers both on route for safety and security reasons and for logistical planning in terms of medals, t-shirts to be ordered and water quantities on route. The uptake and support of the pre-registration by local and foreign runners alike, showed that we are now truly an event of international status as 90% of all entries were sold by the closing date in mid-February.

THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY WAS WHEN TANZANIAN RUNNER, EMMANUEL GINIKI, MANAGED TO SNEAK INTO THE STADIUM IN TOP POSITION IN THE TIGO KILI HALF MARATHON. THE CROWD WERE ON THEIR FEET AND WELCOMED THIS TALENTED RUNNER HOME AS THEIR NEW HERO IN A FABULOUS TIME OF 1:03:34. A STRONG KENYAN CONTINGENT FOLLOWED IN THE REMAINING 9 POSITIONS.

Race Day itself was a blistering hot day but that did not deter the runners and supporters in any way, with numerous participants

enjoying the many spray tunnels and water points on route. In the ladies’ half marathon, Kenyan Athlete, Grace Kimanzi, took first position for the fourth consecutive year in a time of 01:11:45. While, Tanzania’s Golden Girl, Failuna Matanga came in a few seconds behind her in a time of 01:14:01. In the Full Marathon, the Kenyan’s took up most of the top honors in both the men and the ladies’ races, with Stephano Huche being the only Tanzanian to make the podium in seventh position. Kenyan Cosmas Muteti defended his title in the full marathon in a time of 02:18:27, while Lydia Wafula challenged her team mates to first position in the ladies marathon by finishing it in a time of 02:52:17. Fabiola William of Tanzania came in sixth overall and but took home the new incentive prize from Tanzania Breweries for the first Tanzanian Lady in, along with Stephano in the Men’s race. John BAYO , The Race Director of the Marathon was quoted saying, ‘We can be truly proud of the 2019 event. 40 I Dar Life I APRIL 2019

We raised the bar in terms of our pre-registration, the incentive prizes that we put in place for Tanzanian Runners and the changing of the full marathon route. As an AIMS and IAAF accredited event, we managed to set ourselves a high standard and have successfully achieved it.’ ‘Our thanks goes to all the supporters and stakeholders, from the numerous sponsors on board, to the Government and local municipality services, the Police, KAAA and then the runners who descended in Moshi from far and near for the weekend!’

More than 4500 participants also took part in the Grand Malt Fun Run that has so far become a big attraction. Sponsors for this year’s event include Kilimanjaro Premium Lager-42 KM, Tigo21 KM Half Marathon, Grand Malt 5 KM Fun Run and water table sponsors and partners KK Security, Keys Hotel, Kilimanjaro Water, TPC Sugar, Simba Cement, AAR, Kibo Palace, Barclays Bank, Precision Air and CMC Automobiles. From Jazz to traditional to classic and urban, music definitely has no boundaries. It reminds us of where we belong and who we are - humans. Musical concerts and events seem uninteresting without a taste of music with a mixture of dances and Barazani, a bimonthly multicultural night event offered it’s audience just that with performances from Seghito and S. Kide & Wakupeti Band. Many people attended the Barazani event because of its popularity in creating memorable live events, that awaken every music enthusiast with lots of thrills. The event is also known for bringing diverse artists, from different backgrounds and countries, hence given the fanatics all sorts of flavors in music. The stage was first graced by Seghito, a jazz, blues and afro soul singer from Tanzania, who also appeared to perform on this stage for the very first time. Her music was live and soul mending. Her beautiful voice attracted the audience from the very first time that she started sing. With her strong and soft vocals, Seghito is one of those artists you’d want to listen to before you go to sleep. We were later on moved to a much more aggressive and active experience that shifted the audience into

a high dancing mood. This was possible because of no other than S. Kide & Wakupeti Band. With their unique touch of singeli music, these artists left Alliance Da Francaise on huge FIRE! The whole crowd was seen dancing their infamous songs and the vibe was just LIT. Singeli music is known for creating a major dancing scene, and that was highly delivered by these artists. SHAMTE MOHAMMED AKA ‘S. KIDE IS A COMPOSER AND SINGER OF THE URBAN SINGELI STYLE. THE YOUTHFUL AND ENERGETIC SINGELI MUSIC AND DANCE CRAZE EMERGED FROM THE ‘GHETTO’ SUBURBS OF DAR ES SALAAM IN RECENT YEARS - AND IS RAPIDLY ATTRACTING ATTENTION BEYOND THE BORDERS OF TANZANIA.

In 2008, he was invited to perform at a concert organised by Times FM that also featured Fuse ODG from Ghana. This massively increased his confidence and popularity. In 2009, he performed alongside local artists including Alikiba, Yamoto Band, Madee and Snura at the Concert Against Malaria campaign. Since then, S Kide has recorded 150 songs, including “Diamond Kabla Hajatoka” that currently has half a million views on YouTube. Barazani event keeps on proving us that music will always make the world go round, and DarLife will always be here to enjoy the ride with the hundreds of people that keep attending the event.

CAN SUPPLEMENTS SAVE YOUR SEX LIFE? Beware The Dangers Hidden Within By George Rodgers

impurities or small amounts of hidden pharmaceutical drugs — like traces of PDE5 inhibitors, medications in the same class that includes prescription erectile dysfunction drugs like Viagra. This can produce dangerous, even life-threatening, reactions. WHAT SHOULD YOU USE INSTEAD? In supplements there are few exceptions that can be used.

HERE ARE THE DANGERS OF USING SUPPLEMENTS TO BOOST YOUR SEX LIFE: 1) MOST ARE NOT SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN With a few exceptions, most supplements for sexual function haven’t been studied scientifically, says Dr. Michael O’Leary, a urologist at Harvard-affiliated Brigham and Women’s Hospital. About the

48 I Dar Life I APRIL 2019

claims that over-the-counter supplements can increase your libido or sexual endurance? They are simply marketing promises designed to sell you a bottle of pills, and nobody’s checking in advance to make sure they’re accurate. 2) IT IS A RISKY BUSINESS While the FDA has the responsibility to approve the use of any conventional pharmaceutical and to monitor how it is manufactured, the FDA has no such responsibility with regard to supplements. That means unscrupulous companies can sell any products they like, and the supplements won’t be pulled from the shelves until and unless the FDA proves they’re unsafe. So when it comes to supplements, buyer beware! Some sexual function supplements may contain potentially dangerous

2) YOHIMBINE This comes from bark of a tree native to Africa. “It does promote penile blood flow, but you have no idea whether the supplement you’re taking has too much or too little,” warns Dr. O’Leary. Another warning: yohimbine may damage heart function and may cause high blood pressure (hypertension), headaches, agitation, insomnia, and sweating.

SOME PEOPLE STRUGGLE WITH THEIR SEX LIFE AND THEREFORE, TURN TO SUPPLEMENTS TO ENHANCE THAT PART OF THEIR LIVES. IF THAT BRING YOU TO A CERTAIN DRUGSTORE AISLE STOCKED WITH PILLS AND POTIONS PROMISING TO BOOST YOUR SEX LIFE, YOU MAY WANT TO THINK TWICE BEFORE BUYING ANY.

1) L-ARGININE This amino acid provides the raw material from which the body makes nitric oxide, a molecule that helps relax and open blood vessels, a necessary step to achieve an erection of the penis. “But putting that into a pill isn’t proven to produce an erection,” Dr. O’Leary says. Moreover, people with heart disease should avoid it. A study of L-arginine’s effect on heart attack survivors had to be stopped early after six people taking the supplement died.

Almonds are packed full of nutrients like vitamin E, magnesium, and healthy monounsaturated fats. These compounds make them nourishing to your body inside and out. Try this recipe to exfoliate and moisturize your skin.

ART IS CREATION

From tingatinga artists to more contemporary painters, sculptors, photographers and filmmakers, Tanzania is not lacking in artistic skill and variety. While some Tanzanian artists have managed to establish themselves, many more hustle on a daily basis to be recognized for their unique talent. Dar Life caught up with the newly emerging artist Hassan Majeshi, who shared with us a bit about his history, what inspires him, and how he envisions the future of art in Tanzania.

60 I Dar Life I APRIL 2019

DL: How long have you been an artist? HM: I think I’ve been an artist since the day I was born (laughing). DL: When did you start? HM: I started painting after

beginning standard one in primary school. DL: What is your genre of painting and what mediums do you like to use? HM: I play around with different mediums including oil, acrylic and water colors. I like oil colors the best in general. As for my genre of painting… I don’t limit myself to one. I am always experimenting.

DL: Tell us about your first exhibition? When was it? HM: My first exhibition was at the National Museum as part of a collection of Tanzanian art to be sent to the White House in 2005. DL: Where do you do your work? HM: I currently work in Stone Town, Zanzibar. DL: Do you work from life, or from photographs or from imagination? APRIL 2019 Dar Life I 61

Dar Life: What inspired you to start painting? Hassan Majeshi: The sheer beauty of creation was my first inspiration and continues to inspire me today.

HM: I work in all three categories. The most important thing is to bring imagination and vision to my work. DL: Where do you feel art is going? HM: Art is life. Our society will be a stronger and better one when we embrace that fact and learn to use art forms to progress. DL: What is the role of the artist in society? What is your own specific role? HM: The artist’s role is to teach and inspire. Personally, 62 I Dar Life I APRIL 2019

I have been fortunate to also use art to give back to society by selling some of my paintings in the United Kingdom and donating 75% of the profits to the Majimatimu Cobet School. DL: What technique do you use? Which is more important to you, the subject of your painting, or the way it is executed? HM: Important is subject of painting colour which goes together with subject and who one will going to use or bay

DL: Do you prefer a perfect smooth technique or a more energetic expressive technique and why? HM: I generally prefer more energetic expressive techniques, because I feel that it is important to differentiate between paintings and photos. COMMON CAREER MISTAKES YOU MUST AVOID 4 Mistakes You Can Dodge By Timothy Sykes

2)MISSING DEADLINES

You’ve probably thought about what you should do to get ahead in your career. But as it turns out, it’s just as important to consider what you should not do, too. HERE ARE FOUR COMMON PROFESSIONAL MISTAKES AND HOW TO AVOID THEM: 1) NOT ASKING FOR ENOUGH MONEY

I get it. It’s hard to speak up and ask for what you’re worth. Plenty of people lowball themselves when making compensation demands, thinking it will make them seem more competitive. However, you’re doing yourself a big disservice by not asking for enough money. If you’re underpaid, you’ll only be able to keep it up for so long before you begin to get discouraged by how much energy you’re expending and how little you’re receiving in return. 64 I Dar Life I APRIL 2019

As writer Douglas Adams said, “I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.” While this is funny and relatable, if you miss deadlines, you’re probably letting opportunities pass you by as well. Reliability is just as important as the quality of work that you do. If you’re constantly not delivering on time, then you’ll begin to get a reputation for being flaky. That’s not going to help your career advancement. To avoid this, be honest when quoting a timeline for a project. Don’t just be a yes person, especially if you don’t think you can deliver by a certain date. If you realize that you’re running late on a project, be proactive and ask for an extension before the final hour. 3)WORKING ALL THE TIME

Many people suffer from the delusion that working more is impressive and that taking time off is a sign of weakness. This couldn’t be further from the truth.

“WE ALL MAKE MISTAKES IN THE WORKPLACE AT ONE POINT OR ANOTHER. HOWEVER, REPEATEDLY MAKING THE SAME PROFESSIONAL MISTAKES WILL DECREASE YOUR HAPPINESS ON THE JOB AND YOUR QUALITY OF LIFE. THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT MANY OF THESE MISTAKES ARE EASY TO DODGE IN THE FIRST PLACE.”

If you work too much, you will eventually get burned out. Your work won’t be as effective as a worker, and you won’t have a good work-life balance. For best results, make time off a priority. 4)REPEATING MISTAKES OVER AND OVER

To a certain degree, mistakes are unavoidable and inevitable. Few people reach higher career levels without making a misstep or two (or ten). This is not necessarily a bad thing... if you’re able to learn from your mistakes. If you don’t learn from your mistakes, your professional life will be like the movie Groundhog Day, where you keep repeating the same cycle over and over. How can you break free? Learn from your mistakes.

Don’t just blurt out a number. Do some quality research on appropriate compensation for salaries or fees within your field before making a request. You deserve appropriate compensation!

HOW TO FUTURE PROOF YOUR BUSINESS 4 Proven Strategies For A Long Lasting Business By Harshal Katre part of your business. When TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) restricted the bulk SMS limit, lot of SMS marketing companies suddenly went out of business. So, to future proof your business, you must create a diversified product portfolio.

We can’t predict the future but we can definitely prepare our business to face unforeseen challenges. Here is a list of 4 strategies that can help you to future proof your business. 1) DON’T DEPEND ON ONE PART OF YOUR BUSINESS FOR COMPLETE SUCCESS

Most companies achieve success with just one great product. It could be for a niche market or a mass market audience. Even if its very popular and responsible for generating almost entire chunk of the total revenue, you must think about other ways to diversify your product portfolio. This strategy might contradict with the common business advise of focusing only on one area of your business. However, in order to increase your chances for survival, you must reduce your dependence on one 66 I Dar Life I APRIL 2019

strategies will no longer work and you might struggle to acquire new customers if your don’t adopt to new ways. 3) PREDICT THE FUTURE DEMANDS TODAY

When Henry Ford made cheap, reliable cars people said, ‘Nah, what’s wrong with a horse?’ That was a huge bet he made, and it worked. So, your customers can’t always tell you what they want, you have to anticipate it. This needs some imagination and experience with the trends of industry you work in. 4) IDENTIFY & START MANAGING RISKS

2) RETHINK YOUR PAST STRATEGIES THAT MAY FAIL TO ENGAGE NEW CUSTOMERS

I’ve read it somewhere that “What got you here, won’t take you there”. This simply means that the strategies that you used to acquire existing base of customers may not be useful to acquire new customers in future. For example, a lot of businesses depend on print advertisements to acquire customers. With the rise of social media and new avenues like ‘Search Engine Marketing’ and ‘Inbound Marketing’, things are going to change for sure. Your old

You won’t be able to predict the problems that might occur in future but you can certainly take some steps to better prepare yourself. First, we need to find the risks or possible point of failures for our business. These risks could be in areas like people, system or business processes, legal compliance, data security, etc. If you are depending too much on a single person, vendor or a small group of people for the success of your business, then you might face big problems in future when these people are not around.

LOT OF BUSINESS HAD TO EITHER CHANGE THE WAY THEY WORK OR SHUT DOWN DUE TO THESE FAST CHANGING ENVIRONMENT. THIS BRINGS US TO AN IMPORTANT QUESTION – CAN WE FUTURE PROOF OUR BUSINESS? CAN WE INCREASE THE CHANCES OF BUSINESS SURVIVAL?

AN INSIGHT INTO INFERTILITY

Intelligence & Care by Hi Tech Sai Healthcare Centre

“EVERY WOMAN HAS A DESIRE TO CONCEIVE AND NURTURE A CHILD AND PREGNANCY MAY COME EASILY FOR MANY BUT NOT ALL. THE AIM OF THIS ARTICLE IS TO DEFINE INFERTILITY AND BRIEFLY ADDRESS THE COMMON CAUSES AND THEIR TREATMENT.” Infertility is defined as inability to conceive after one year of the couple having unprotected intercourse. This time limit is set as 85% of the couples can conceive within one year of trying. So ideally treatment should be started after this time period has elapsed. However, some women may have to be evaluated earlier, especially if they are above 35 years of age. MAJOR FACTORS THAT LEAD TO INFERTILITY ARE AS FOLLOWS: GENERAL HEALTH: Prior to conception both partners should have optimal health. If they do suffer from a preexisting medical condition like Diabetes, Hypertension, Thyroid disorders etc. it should be well controlled. SMOKING / ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION / DRUG ABUSE: All these reduce fertility, hence abstinence

68 I Dar Life I APRIL 2019

from these by both partners is required. STRESS: Stress can lead to reduced sperm count in males and prevent ovulation in females, hence underlying stress should be addressed in cases where no other cause of infertility is established. ANOVULATION: This is the inability of the woman to produce eggs due to varying reasons like high levels of milk hormone (Prolactin), thyroid dysfunction, weight gain leading to Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) etc. OBSTRUCTION: This can be due to blocked tubes following infections, surgery, endometriosis etc. and can be diagnosed by Hysterosalpingography (HSG). If the tubes are blocked, In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is the only way forward.

MALE INFERTILITY: This may be due to absence or reduced number of sperms or sperms with abnormal form or function. Male infertility is usually treated by undergoing Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI), a procedure similar to IVF. UNEXPLAINED INFERTILITY: This means none of the abovementioned causes exist in the couple and they are the best responders to treatment by ovulation induction medications and IVF, resulting in high pregnancy rates. Infertility is a distressful condition but treatment is possible in many cases. A comprehensive evaluation and application of correct treatment modality is the key. ENJOY THE EASTER HOLIDAYS Ways To Celebrate the Season By Criss Samba

After Christmas, Easter is the most important holiday in most countries and Tanzania is no exception. This is one of the oldest Christian holidays. The occasion marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. Outside of Christian communities, the Easter holiday is a very joyful occasion for many who celebrate with their loved ones, sharing and cherishing special moments with the ones closest to their heart.

76 I Dar Life I APRIL 2019

For those looking for ways to enjoy Easter 2018, you’ve come to the right place, whether you want a budget family holiday or simply some fun ideas for how to celebrate at home.

WAYS TO CELEBRATE:

• Light candles. • Dress up in special Easter outfits to go to church for prayer and worship. • Decorate your home with beautiful lilies. • Gather some small gifts (see below for ideas) and surprise your kids with Easter baskets. • Cook a special meal for your loved ones. Lamb is a common Easter holiday food as are hot cross buns. • Hold or participate in an Easter egg hunt or an egg-painting competition. • Have a bonfire on the evening before Easter as they do in Europe.

GIFT IDEAS FOR KIDS:

Easter is a wonderful time to give gifts to the kids in wrapped Easter baskets. For young girls, pretty earrings or bracelets or coloured egg-shaped accent lights can be good gift options. If your son or daughter is a connoisseur of crafts, you can present him or her with a window painting kit. The

kit should contain easy-to-clean brushes and easy-to-remove paint. A set of clays that could be baked in the oven can also keep the creative child totally engrossed for hours in making a beautiful pot for Easter flowers. A set of spiralling musical airplanes to hang over the crib can be a wonderful Easter gift for babies. For toddlers, jigsaw puzzles, blocks, bubbles, and stuffed animals are all great Easter gift ideas. P.S. – Hide the kids’ baskets and have them search for them for an extra-fun surprise!

GIFT IDEAS FOR ADULTS:

You may want to celebrate Easter by giving gifts to your spouse, fiancé, boyfriend or girlfriend, friends, co-workers, or neighbours. Chocolates and baked goods are very popular, as are varieties of tea, coffee, and wine. Some people may appreciate flowers, a new book, jewellery, clothing, accessories such as a scarf or handbag. You can also give away tickets to an upcoming show, concert or special event. Even adults may enjoy searching for baskets on Easter! Tanzania’s year-round temperate climate and wide range of hotels and resorts means you don’t have to go far to enjoy some time in the sun. This is particularly good news for families, making an Easter holiday much more affordable. Here are some hotels and restaurants for those looking to get away over the break.

The Easter holiday, during the Holy week, begins on Holy Thursday, followed by Good Friday, Easter Sunday, and Easter Monday. Since easter is a national holiday, many businesses are closed on these days and everyone enjoys Easter vacation.

21 LESSONS FOR THE 21ST CENTURY (HARDBACK): BY YUVAL NOAH HARARI

Sapiens showed us where we came from. Homo Deus looked to the future. 21 Lessons for the 21st Century explores the present. How can we protect ourselves from nuclear war, ecological cataclysms and technological disruptions? What can we do about the epidemic of fake news or the threat of terrorism? What should we teach our children? Yuval Noah Harari takes us on a thrilling journey through today’s most urgent issues. The golden thread running through his exhilarating new book, is the challenge of maintaining our collective and individual focus in the face of constant and disorienting change. Are we still capable of understanding the world we have created?

BURN THE BUSINESS PLAN: WHAT GREAT ENTREPRENEURS REALLY DO (HARDBACK): BY CARL J. SCHRAMM

Would you like to get business startup advice straight from the man who co-founded Global Entrepreneurship Week and StartUp America? Well now you can. Carl Schramm, the man described by The Economist as ‘The Evangelist of Entrepreneurship’, has written a myth-busting guide packed with tools and techniques to help you get your big idea off the ground. Carl believes that entrepreneurship has been completely misrepresented by the media, business books, university programs and MBA courses. He believes that the perception of what it takes to start a business no longer matches the reality - which is bad news for everyone because it stops great ideas coming to life. Burn the Business Plan punctures the myth of the cool, tech-savvy 20-something entrepreneur with nothing to lose and venture capital to burn, showing that most people who start businesses are juggling careers and mortgages just like you. Burn the Business Plan is written to encourage you to get started. It demystifies the entrepreneurial process portrayed on television shows like Dragon’s Den. It doesn’t rely on largely irrelevant stories of overvalued tech startups, nor does it build on the largely mistaken narrative of a linear path from cold start to great success that is the essence of business planning, as taught in universities. This is the guide to starting and running a business that will actually work for the rest of us. Burn the Business Plan is for regular people who just want practical, real-world advice on how to start and run a successful business. It shows you how to avoid the common mistakes and what you need to do to put your enterprise on track for success.

CRAZY RICH ASIANS (PAPERBACK): BY KEVIN KWAN

When Rachel Chu agrees to spend the summer in Singapore with her boyfriend, Nicholas Young, she envisions a humble family home and time with the man she might one day marry. What she doesn’t know is that Nick’s family home happens to look like a palace, that she’ll ride in more private planes than cars and that she is about to encounter the strangest, craziest group of people in existence. Uproarious, addictive, and filled with jaw-dropping opulence, Crazy Rich Asians is an insider’s look at the Asian jet set; a perfect depiction of the clash between old money and new money - and a fabulous novel about what it means to be young, in love, and gloriously, crazily rich.

These titles and many more are available at A Novel Idea Bookstore. To inquire about book purchases, please call Tel: +255 022 2601088 or email: info@anovelidea.co.tz.

Nature & Wildlife Safari Experience The atmosphere in Arusha National Park is magical. The entrance gate leads into shadowy montane forest inhabited by inquisitive blue monkeys and colourful turacos and trogons – the only place on the northern safari circuit where the acrobatic black-andwhite colobus monkey is easily seen. In the middle of the forest stands the spectacular Ngurdoto Crater, whose steep, rocky cliffs dotted with herds of buffalo and warthog. Further north, rolling grassy hills enclose the tranquil beauty of the Momela Lakes, each one a different hue of green or blue. Their shallows sometimes tinged pink with thousands of a rich selection of resident and migrant waterfowl, and shaggy waterbucks display their large lyre-shaped horns on the watery fringes. Giraffes glide across the grassy hills, between grazing zebra herds, while pairs of wide-eyed dik-dik dart into

Although elephants are uncommon in Arusha National Park and lions absent altogether, leopards and spotted hyenas may be seen slinking around in the early morning and lurking next to waterfalls in the shadowy forest in the late evenings. It is also at dusk and dawn that the veil of cloud on the eastern horizon is most likely to clear, revealing the majestic snow-capped peaks of Kilimanjaro, only 50 km (30 mi) away. But it is Kilimanjaro’s unassuming cousin, Mount Meru, the 4,566 metres (14,990 feet) that dominates the park’s horizon.
