RUAHA NATIONAL PARK
Apparently, a poachers’ well-kept secret in the middle of the sprawling Ruaha National Park in southern Tanzania is the latest hotspot every conservationist, geologist, archaeologist and enthusiast will be attracted to. Until recently when a search for poachers and other criminals encroaching on the park was mounted, none of the past and present o cials had spotted the place now christened Ruaha Amazing Site. Evidently only poachers and other criminals from neighbouring villages were aware of the site they turned into their hideout when conservation rangers sought them. Conservation o cials led by the park Commander Godwell Meing’ataki first saw the awe-inspiring site at Magda, south of the over 20,000-square-kilometre park, aboard a chopper.
TANAPA TO REINTRODUCE RHINOS IN MIKUMI
Mikumi National Park plans to reintroduce rhinos, which were wiped out from the park by poaching in the 1980s. The planned reintroduction is part of efforts to attract more visitors to tourism’s Southern Circuit. Located in Morogoro Region, Mikumi is one of the 22 national parks managed by Tanzania National Parks (Tanapa) and attracts the highest number of local visitors, according to the park’s head of tourism section, Mr erman Mtei. The rhino, which is endangered, is the only member of the Big Five that is missing from the park. The last rhino was spotted in Mikumi more than three decades ago and its disappearance from the park has been attributed to rampant poaching, which decimated Tanzania’s rhino population in the 1980s and 90s. Tanapa now wants to reintroduce rhinos in Mikumi, which is ranked ninth by size in the country, to boost tourism in the Southern one.

It is about 300 km from Dar es Salaam or 4 hours’ drive on tarmac road.
Your invigorating oasis in mikumi
Overnighting in Mikumi National Park is the encore to the day-time safari experience – when the landscape once again takes on a different appearance with a costume change between sunset and twilight after the sky has burst into hues of orange, pink, purple and everything in between.
Vuma Hills is a permanent camp with 16 spacious tents standing atop wooden decks overlooking the plains below, beneath the shade of a makuti-thatched roof. It is part of the portfolio of properties belonging to the family-run Foxes Safari Camps. Each of the en-suite tents is elegantly furnished and fitted with all the creature comforts that guests expect of an exclusive safari.
the camp in a cooler climate, the large swimming pool and palm-frond salas always awaits, especially after a sunrise game drive or guided walking safari.
Here, the animals come and go as they please. It’s the guests who need to be accompanied by Maasai guides as they move between the camp’s elevated lookout deck and their suites after dark. Bushbaby call echoes through the night. It seems that there really is no final curtain call on a visit to Mikumi National Park. It’s a wildlife experience unmatched, where visitors can witness the full spectrum of southern Tanzania’s incredible biodiversity.
Game Drives: All game drives around the park are taken in open 4-wheel drive vehicles. The game drives are led by a trained, experienced English-speaking guide who will ensure that you get the most out of every safari you make.
Special Occasions: From bush breakfasts to sundowners and picnic lunches in the bush. What better way to watch the sun go down than with a cool drink, overlooking the grunting hippos in a waterhole.
The cosy bar area centres around a roaring log fire, opening onto a large decking area from where you can take in the setting sun over the Mkata plains below. Under the same thatch, the dining area enjoys widespread views through the lush trees, and overlooking the swimming pool.

Mikumi Wild & Beauty of Paradise for Nature Lovers
IIf you have chosen the southern circuit for your adventure safari, then a visit to Tanzania’s fourth largest national park, Mikumi, is likely to be on your program. Four to five hours drive on comfortable roads will take you to this park which is known for hosting a wealth of Tanzania’s national animal, the giraffe.”
f you want to spend your holiday in a majestic natural area, the grand Mikumi National Park is the place to be stablished in , ikumi is the fourth largest national park in the world, enclosing an area of about 3230 square kilometers. Located south of Dar es Salaam right on the main Morogoro Iringa Highway, it is the first national park stop on the Tanzania southern circuit safari. The word Mikumi comes from a local word for Borassus palm trees referred to as Mikuky. Mikumi was the name given to the villages created by a tribal chief of Wavindunda community with the name of Mtwahela Kikuwi (pronounced mm-twahhe-laa Kee-kuu-wee).
Mikumi National Park has two
main sections divided by the main road.
The Northwest Section: is where most guests undertake their wildlife and birdlife viewing expeditions made possible by existing safari tracks. The Mkata flood plains aid the e os stem by creating pools of water and therefore creating a sustainable environment for the plants and wildlife. The vegetations predominantly found are mixed grassland with acacia, baobab, sausage, tamarind and few small palms trees. Game driving further into the park or staying at the Foxes Tented Camp, itself lying on a hill, the majestic view of the Rubeho and Uluguru mountains can be seen, which are part of the pre-Cambrian rocks formed over 600 million years ago.
April 2024 | Dar Life 18
The Southeast Section: is not conducive to the safari experience because of its underdeveloped infrastructure. Guests staying at the Vuma Hills Tented Camp can experience the rugged and wilderness experience from a geological and Vegetation perspective.
Visiting Mikumi National Park during the dry season can aid a safari experience by the fact that the dried up vegetation and the brown soil creates a superb hue during sunrises and sunsets.
Wildlife and Birdlife Experience at Mikumi National Park: The wildlife viewing experience at Mikumi National Park can
be experienced right upon entering the park where guests can encounter baboons, zebras and impalas speedily crossing the road. Making a right turn after paying the park fees leads you right into the Kikoboga-Mikumi Wildlife Camp, where guests can watch the elephants in the distance splattering them with mud. Circulation around the Kisungura road circuit leads you to the hippo pool, which is best visited during the evenings when the distant setting sun and the bobbing heads of the hippos create perfect pictures. Next to the flood plain, guests might see birds such as crowned cranes, kingfishers, hornbills and storks each having a sharp eye out for anything that might

Exploring Zanzibar at its fullest with Maru Maru hospitality
On the historic island of Zanzibar, amidst the quaint, narrow alleys of Stone Town is Maru Maru Hotel, once a townhouse now boasts 51 well-laid rooms.
Maru Maru Hotel consists of two wings – the Classic Wing with 11 rooms, which have undergone restoration, and the New Wing with 33 modern rooms built around a small courtyard with a star-shaped fountain. The courtyard is ideal for spending time quietly reading, the noise of the water in the fountain a soothing backdrop. On the way to the courtyard, there is a coffee shop which also serves freshly baked pastries and cakes just in case you want to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea whilst rewinding.
The rooms are well equipped with modern amenities, a comfortable bed in Zanzibari style, swathed in a mosquito net, which is not only essential but also creates a romantic atmosphere with the stained-

glass shades.
An elevator connects both wings to the rooftop terrace, which is a delightful place to be, largely because of the stunning view of the ocean, so you can witness the gentle traffic of dhows, a vista that’s barely changed in generations.
Climbing the flight of wooden stairs leading to the terrace restaurant and reflecting on the hotel’s personality, it’s evident why Maru Maru has been the
preferred property for eminent personalities like Bill Clinton and his daughter, Chelsea. And it wasn’t just the atmosphere that struck me, the scent of the place did too: the hotel smells wonderful as day-long diffusers burn perfumed essential oils.
Maru Maru serves a delightful variety of cuisines, especially Continental and Asian – quality is great and portions are generous. I especially loved the way an array of sauces was offered which you could blend with the main ingredient – poultry, meat, seafood or vegetables.
All the staff right - from the General Manager, receptionist, chefs –lead and supporting roles were super friendly and helpful. Services and requests were promptly addressed.
So, if you’re after an affordable Stone Town break – Maru Maru is a great option and delivers the perfect launch pad from where to explore this historic little place.

The Kilimanjaro
The 25th February 2024 marked race day for the Kilimanjaro Marathon – and a milestone 22nd anniversary of the event! And, to help celebrate this, the Tanzanian running talent enjoyed a clean sweep in the top positions in both the Kilimanjaro Premium Lager Marathon as well as the Tigo Kili Half Marathon!
Fancy a destination marathon that offers a world class AIMS and World Athletics certified event, set against the backdrop of Africa’s highest free standing mountain, with a route that takes you through the beautiful coffee and banana plantations, into the quaint and bustling town of Moshi and then the majestic and spacious sugar cane growing fields, with the grand
finale finish being in the MoCU Stadium where the applause of 12000 plus people welcome you and you experience the sound of much laughter, music and get to taste and savour cold Kili Lagers in the Kilimanjaro Premium Lager Beer Tent!
The Kilimanjaro Marathon is a unique experience indeed! The first event in 2003 was pretty small (around 300 entrants) and
Mbio Ya Watu - The People’s Race!
Marathon 2024
consisted of mainly local runners. Sponsorship was limited and the runners were mostly all local and from the region.
Today the race day attracts everyone from the serious runner, to moms with prams, with distances to suit every fitness level.
This year’s 22nd edition of the Kilimanjaro Premium Lager Marathon took place on a beautiful, cool, clear day on the 25th February. And, to help celebrate this, the
Minister for Culture, Arts and Sports, Dr Damas Ndumbaro, flagged off the races and took part and finished the Gee Soseji 5km Fun Run too. He was also later on the finish line to receive the proud finishers. John Addison said the focus of this year’s event was to make it more inclusive and for a longer period, instead of just on race day.
‘This year we again had a Race Number collection area to the MoCu Stadium for the 3 days prior to Race Day and to make
it more of an experience, we started the People’s Expo. This allowed corporates that normally are not able to participate in the Kili marathon to get involved and take a stand from which to promote their companies, services and brands.
It gave them access to the runners, allowing them to engage with them as they came to collect their race numbers in a more relaxed atmosphere.’
‘We were delighted with the uptake of smaller businesses

getting involved, and with the entertainment they provided through activities, competitions, displays, promotions and giveaways from their tents. This is definitely an area we plan on growing as it allows for a greater overall experience during the Marathon weekend,’ John said.
Tanzania Breweries Limited country director, Michelle Kilpin, said the event had made dramatic strides as it entered its 22nd Anniversary. ‘This achievement has been witnessed by millions across the world. It has been an exciting journey as this is now one of the biggest international athletics events in the region, as it brings together thousands of

runners and many more spectators from Tanzania and around the country, where by this year it drew participants from 56 different countries’.
John closed by thanking all the sponsors, most of whom have celebrated 10 plus years as partners to this amazing race. This year, the sponsors on route went all out, building spray points and tunnels, handing out food and energy supplements, creating an atmosphere of festive fun with dancing and pulsating African drumming and in return, the participants went full out in their dress ups, from pink tutu’s, to funky hairstyles and costumes –the route was alive with energy and excitement!
Race Date next year is the 2nd March 2025.

WAYS TEMPORARY WORK CAN SKYROCKET YOUR CAREER
Five Hard-To-Ignore Advantages Of Working A Temporary Job
By hiring a worker on a temporary basis, employers are able to evaluate your cultural compatibility and get a better understanding of how your individual strengths contribute to the team’s success. These areas are often hard for an employer to gauge solely from your interview.
Here are five hard-to-ignore advantages of working a temporary job:
1.A Chance To Diversify Your Experience
Navigating the workplace as a temp employee allows you to experience different types of positions in a short time period. For recent grads, you can trial different work environments –from a large, brand-name corporation to a 30-employee firm.
2. An Opportunity To Get Your Foot In The Door
Employers use temporary and contract workers for a number of reasons. Oftentimes, companies will allocate a completely separate budget toward contract positions. These funds can be used to compensate for shortterm projects, such as a new software implementation that
requires a technical specialist or to cover staffing gaps that arise from an unexpected disability or maternity leave. This is the chance for you yo show your potentials in the field.
Temporary work is a great way for unemployed workers to re-enter the workforce. It also gives individuals who routinely clam up during an interview or cringe at the thought of networking the chance to showcase their skills firsthand on the job. And let’s not forget, contract positions can be lucrative, which will help you fatten up that hungry piggy bank of yours.
3.A Way To Expand Your Professional Network
Industry-related conferences or professional groups are a great way to interact and build relationships with individuals in your field. But you know what’s even better? The bonds you form while actually working alongside your co-workers. These relationships can be tremendously impactful to the future of your career, as you’ll have a group of individuals who
can personally attest to the value you deliver as an employee.
4. A Means For Lighting A Fire
Under Your Bum
Many of us have fallen victim to the unemployment slump. It happens to the best of us. Mustering up the drive to use your time productively can be difficult when you’ve become accustomed to a slower routine. However, you can reintroduce yourself to office life and shift your mentality to one that focuses on meaningful, proactive activities. Taking on temporary work in this scenario is a great way to get your productivity level back up while also reigniting your inspiration to start chasing those career goals again.
5.A Transition To A New Career Path
Flexibility and greater autonomy are two of the main factors that drive career decisions for today’s modern job seeker. Many people decide to make contract work a permanent career choice as they crave control over their work schedule, find enjoyment in the freedom of exploring different work environments and projects, and like engaging with multiple employers.

SECRETS TO GETTING PAID ON TIME AND INCREASE CASHFLOW
How to Make Lazy Customers Pay Early
By Amrita Pandey
Wouldn’t it be an ideal situation in any line of business if all customers paid on time? There would be no problem with cash flow and projects would run like clockwork.
Unfortunately, business is not as ideal as we wish it to be. The secrets to getting your debtors to cough up the cash may seem extreme in some cases, but your cash flow is vital to your business operation.
Here are secrets that will help your business and prevent you from getting more headaches.
Show Professionalism Right from the Beginning In
business, if you want your clients to take you seriously, you need to portray a professional attitude and operational ability. Ensuring that your website is informative and consists of
testimonials from previous customers is the battle half won. Just because you own the business does not mean that you can treat your customers any less civilly. Respect your clients and behave in a professional manner when dealing with them. It is imperative to communicate with your customers regularly even if only to greet them. This personalized attention will make all the difference when the time comes to make the payment.
KNOW YOUR CUSTOMER WELL
It is a good idea to know who you are going to be dealing with before attending any meeting or negotiation. There are varying degrees of problem customers that you should be aware of. Take this into account when doing your research and before you confirm a meeting. If you have already confirmed, it is not too late to cancel.
GIVE INCENTIVES FOR EARLY PAYMENTS
To prevent late payments, you could offer your customers incentives for early payments or payments made by the due date. Any saving is a good deal and may just be the gentle persuasion they need to fulfill their commitment to you. A discount that you can comfortably manage is the best option in this case.
ENFORCE LATE PENALTIES
There will always be a customer who is not swayed by your positive rewards of incentives to pay early. This customer is the one that usually responds to the negative reinforcement that accompanies late payment fees. Consider each situation carefully before imposing this fee. Late payment charges let your customer know that you are a professional business and that their payment behavior is not acceptable now and will not be in the future.

FASHION DESIGNER OF THE MONTH
“MUGONZIBWA”
A self-taught person in fashion
As a young girl she would walk to different tailors, collect the left overs and sew little beautiful dresses for the dolls she created out of soil or fabric and sell them.
hen the colors mix on a fabric to form bold, vibrant designs, you get a stunning African print. Tanzanian designers are not letting that opportunity pass by, they use all their imagination to create masterpieces.
They are claiming the fashion industry stage from the Swahili Fashion eek in Dar es Salaam to the Mercedes-Benz Fashion eek in South Africa. Tanzanian designers are pushing the boundaries with a simple Kitenge leaving masterpieces in their wake.
Every month Dar Life dedicates this section
to young emerging and well-known designers who want to create brands and use the fashion platform as a stepping stone towards achieving their dream. This month we met Mugonzibwa whose ideas in designing clothes and accessories are amazing, you must watch out!
Mugonzibwa has always had a passion for creation since childhood with which the creativity and imaginations has been a tool to improve any situation where she was. As a young girl she would walk to different tailors collect the left overs and sew little beautiful dresses for the dolls she created out of soil or fabric and sell them. beautifying parents living room was also a task she loved to do, turning old sheets into couch cushion covers.
After obtaining her master’s degree in RM, a burning desire intensified and in 2016 she totally got involved in the fashion industry. Being a self-taught person in fashion she started receiving bulk and individual orders, thanks to loyal customers who trusted her eye of creativity and design and being a huge support to her since then. The trust they showed sharpened her to be able to execute her plans and grow as a designer.
To her, creating clothes brings and inspires such joy and increases her sense of spiritual connection as art is a form of prayer and our private devotions have an effect on others. She intends to use Nyuzi as a platform to contribute to the fashion and design industry in a monumental way, overseeing seasonal conceptualization and creation of men, women and children’s clothes and accessories.
