RHINO TOURISM SANCTUARY IN MKOMAZI

Mkomazi National Park in Northern Tanzania became the first wildlife park in Africa specialised for black rhino tourism. When planning their African safari, tourists from Europe, America, and Asia would add to their visiting itineraries a few days’ tour of Mkomazi National Park to see the rare African black rhino, now on the verge of disappearing from Earth. Looking to diversify tourism and wildlife safaris in Tanzania, Mkomazi National Park introduced rhino tourism as a new attraction to attract tourists who are interested to see and learn more about the African black rhino. Under the management of Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA), Mkomazi is the only wildlife park in East Africa and the rest of Africa where visitors may see the black rhino.

NYERERE NATIONAL PARK

(SELOUS GAME RESERVE)

Africa’s Largest & Wildest National Park

Nyerere Natio

Nyerere Natio

Only 200 km west of Dar es Salaam lies the mighty Nyerere National Park, together with Selous, one of Africa’s least known yet wildest conservation areas. A World Heritage Site, Game Reserve and the largest expanse of National Park in Africa. The Nyerere National Park, together with Selous’ ecosystem as a whole is made up of a few conservation areas, namely Mikumi in the north and the Kilombero gamecontrolled area in the west, covering in total over 90,000 sq km of pristine wilderness devoid of human influence.

A part of the Reserve’s modern-

day area was set aside as a game conservancy as far back as 1905, an area which was expanded and named (after Frederick Courtenay Selous, a 19th century hunter and soldier) in the 1920s. Repeated sleeping sickness epidemics during the 1930s and 1940s meant that the area’s human inhabitants moved out, leaving the Selous area to the animals. Today, sleeping sickness is a thing of the distant past, but the Selous is still an uninhabited, untamed slice of Africa. In 1982, the Reserve’s unique ecosystem was recognised internationally and the area designated a World Heritage Site by the United Nations.

The greater part of the northern sector of Selous is earmarked for photographic tourism, and it is one of the most beautiful and game-rich areas in the whole ecosystem. Three quarters of the Reserve is woodland of various types, short grassy plains, and seasonally flooded pans. Impressive riverine forests and dense impenetrable thickets are important habitats within Selous. The wide, meandering Rufiji River is one of the largest water systems in East Africa. With its associated wetlands, lakes and swamps, it is one of the most outstanding ecological systems in the whole of East Africa.

Now the Largest National Park in Africa, Nyerere National Park is a newly established Park which is part of what is known as the Selous Game Reserve. The name of the Park is given in honor of the founder of the Tanzania Nation, the late Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere. The Park has been established in year 2019 and covers an area of over 30,893 sq km which a large area of the reserve is drained by the Rufiji River and the remaining 19,107 sq km as Selous Game Reserve"

BIRDING

The mighty Rufiji River is responsible for the huge variety of birds drawn to this area. This enormous river with its everchanging pattern of sandbanks, oxbow lakes, lagoons, islands and channels is a magnet for several rare species of birds. Pretty pink-backed pelicans are often seen here as are great white pelicans. When the water levels lower during the dry season, the fish become consecrated in this shrinking environment and waterfowl are attracted to feast on this easy prey. Egyptian Geese and Whitefaced Whistling Duck are common at these times. The White-backed Herron, an elusive the night birds are more prevalent along the river banks. Brownnecked and brown-headed parrots are also commonly seen birds.

Now the Larges National Par in Africa, Nyerere National Park is a newly established Park which is part of what is known as the Selous Game Reserve. The name of the Park is given in honor of the founder of the Mwalimu e Park 2019 30,893 reserve and Selous

Features: Forests, rocky hills, mountains, waterfalls, rivers

such as Rufiji, Great Ruaha and Kilombero River as well as sand rivers, which are one of the most unique features of the Selous landscape.

Wildlife Includes: Elephants, buffalo, leopards, African wild dogs, lions, hippo, crocodiles, plus a variety of bird life: fish eagles, African Skimmers, waders, herons, kingfisher and weavers. Antelopes, white bearded wildebeest and giraffes are also commonly seen on the north side of the river.

Located in south-east Tanzania in a remote and little-visited part of the country, at an unbelievable 50,000 sq km, Nyerere National Park, together with Selous forms the combination of Park and Game Reserve. The Reserve covers more than 5% of Tanzania’s total land area, and is three times larger than the Serengeti. Although slightly off the beaten track of the more well-worn safari circuits, a visit to Nyerere National Park, together with Selous offers unforgettable game viewing in almost completely isolated surroundings.

THE WILDLIFE

Nyerere National Park, together with Selous contains about one third of all the wild dogs

(often called painted dogs) in the world. Their need to roam vast areas and their formidable hunting skills have caused many to be shot by farmers, but here in Nyerere National Park, together with Selous they have boundless woodlands and savannas in which to roam. Over 800,000 mammals, including lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, buffalos, zebras, impalas, gnus, hartebeests, waterbucks, giraffes, kudus, warthogs, grysbok, hyenas, jackals, wild dogs, bush babies, baboons, Vervet monkeys and mongooses are also present. And that’s without mentioning the reserve’s specialty – an abundance of hippopotamuses and crocodiles.

Along the Rufiji River, an array of grazing antelopes, crocodiles and hippos are commonly seen as well as black and white colobus monkeys in the riverine forests. During the dry season from June to October, the concentration of animals along the river is astonishing. Linked

to the Rufii is Lake Tagalala where waterbuck, reedbuck and bushbuck gather at the water’s edge. Magnificent sickle-horned sable and curly-horned greater kudu tend to keep to the longer grass and wooded shrubby areas.

In the dry season, an ancient migration of elephants takes place between the Nyerere National Park Ex Selous and Mozambique’s Niassa Game Reserves. This is one of the largest natural trans-boundary ecosystems in Africa and at the last consensus it was estimated that 64,400 elephants roam the two parks, with 84% on the Tanzanian side. Fierce tiger fish and smooth slippery Vandu catfish are caught in the rivers. The latter is equipped with primitive lungs allowing it to cross land for short distances in an attempt to find water during the dry season.

GETTING THERE

Visitors have two choices for their mode of transportation.

ROAD

Nyerere National Park Ex Selous can be accessed on a road safari however, when traveling from Dar es Salaam, there is a direct route that covers a distance of 240 km / 149 miles following the eastern road. The drive is bumpy and long taking you 6 to 7 hours which is nearly half a day’s drive. This road takes you through Kibiti as well as Mloka and you will finally be able to access the park through Mtemere gate.

AIR CHARTER

Safari Air Link has twice daily flights in the morning and afternoon to and from various airstrips across Nyerere National Park. This schedule allows for onward connections out of Dar es Salaam and onward to southern and northern national parks across Tanzania. Flights from Dar es Salaam are 45 minutes and Rufiji River Camp is located a short distance from Mtemere airstrip.

Unique safari environment, combining the rarest of recipes – river, forest, and woodlands around the lagoons, sandbanks and lakes of the Rufiji River.

ACTIVITIES

You won’t be disappointed to have a few days safari in the Nyerere National Park, together with Selous. The conservation area allows walking and boating safaris, unlike other national parks, and guiding standards are high. Many camps will arrange fantastic fly-camping nights in the bush, bookable in advance. It also facilitates encounters with rare and endangered wild dogs, boat game viewing, fishing, hiking safaris, and bird-walking safaris in addition to standard wildlife safaris.

WHEN TO GO

Dry Season: The dry season sets in during June to November and is the best time for game viewing along the rivers. Elephants come out of the bush at that time and predators are more commonly seen.

Rainy Season: January to April is wonderful for birdlife and lush scenery but many roads become impassable after heavy rains. December to February is still good for game viewing but can be rather hot and humid. The safari lodges are usually closed from March to May.

WHERE TO STAY

There are both lodges and tented camps inside the Nyerere National Park, together with Selous. There are also several lodges and camps in and around the game but our recommendation is as follow;

The classic tents at Rufiji River Camp are designed with comfort and game viewing in mind. They are set beneath thatched roofs with spacious verandas that overlook the Rufiji River.

Rufiji River Camp

An Adventures Safari Experience

Rufiji River Camp enjoys an enviable location high up on the banks of the Great Rufiji River. Spectacular sunsets are chorused by hippos grunting and a plethora of bird songs. Selous Game Reserve is dominated by the Great and Sprawling Rufiji River, so what better place to stay than right along the banks.

June 2024 | Dar Life 28

Rufiji River camp is one of the oldest and the first camp established in Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous), owned and run by the Foxes family. Located on the banks of the Rufiji River, inside the Nyerere (formerly Selous Game Reserve close to Mtemere entry gate and the airstrip, about 280 km or 6 hour’s drive from Dar es Salaam via Kibiti; access via Morogoro, Uluguru Mountains and Matambwe gate will take about 11 hours by road.

Carbon-neutral sister airline, Safari Air Link has twice daily flights in the morning and afternoon to and from various airstrips across Nyerere National Park. This schedule allows for onward connections out of Dar es Salaam and onward to southern and northern national parks across Tanzania. Flights from Dar es Salaam are 45 minutes and Rufiji River Camp

Imagine Tanzania a country by the great Indian Ocean, and the largest lake in Africa, the country prides in a number of water sport activities among which are some of the finest diving spots in the world on freshwater-lakes and the ocean, boat trips, yacht trips, snorkelling, white-water rafting among others

is located a short distance from Mtemere airstrip.

At the heart of Rufiji River Camp is a large central area with wonderful views over the Rufiji River. The

lounge and small library, bar and dining area are all under one high thatched roof with lovely stone floors and comfortable soft furnishings. A few old board games are dotted around for playing before or after dinner. There’s a second floor to this area too, providing more seclusion and good spots for taking in the scene. The whole area has a rustic African feel to it, with thatched roofs, stone floors and the occasional piece of carved furniture.

Outside, some simple wooden seating is set around a campfire, and set a little further back from the river is Rufiji’s shaded swimming pool, which stays very cool in the heat of the day. There are loungers around the pool for those wishing to relax and sunbathe in between safari activities.

ACCOMMODATION

The Fox family rebuilt and renovated the camp in 2010 to set it further back inland to protect it from the might of the Rufiji River during El Niño and the rainy season. The classic tents at Rufiji River Camp are designed with comfort and game viewing in mind. They are set beneath thatched roofs with spacious verandas that overlook the Rufiji River. For those looking for a more luxurious experience, the three larger suites feature two large tents each on a shared wooden platform with a private plunge pool and open-air living spaces, making it ideal for families or groups. The adventurous at heart can book a fly camping experience where a mobile tented camp with cold bucket showers is set up within driving range of Rufiji River Camp, complete with a private guide, tracker, chef and vehicle which allows for exploration of the seasonal lakes further afield.

DINE & WINE

With the focus on the river views and wildlife, the restaurant and bar are built to reflect this. Al fresco dining lit by star light, private dinners along the river bank or that end of the evening coffee sipped from the depth of a sofa in the upper-level coffee lounge - it can be difficult to choose!

LIFE IN CAMP

The focus of the owner is to provide the guests with an ‘off the beaten track’, immersive wildlife experience.

The remoteness of the camps and lodges is a big part of achieving this goal. This means some elements of everyday Life in the African Bush will be different from what you are used to at home.

One of the marvels of Rufiji River Camp is the wildlife that roams around camp, meaning your safari doesn’t end after a game drive. For safety, Maasai guides must be requested to escort our guests between their rooms and other camp areas.

To get truly off the grid, combine your stay at Rufiji River Camp with an adventurous night or two at one of Rufiji’s remote fly camps, where you’ll enjoy a private camping experience in a simple, mobile camp with very little between you and the wilderness.

ACTIVITIES

The Camp offers a wide range of activities to the guests that makes it more reliable and unique. Its strategic location favours more activities the guests can do like:

Game Drives: All game drives are taken in open vehicles with a sunshade roof, so there are no impediments to anyone’s view. Guides at Rufiji are locally trained and are experts in the Selous

area.

Game Walks: A game walk at Rufiji will really open your eyes to the finer details often missed on game drives - the spore, footprints, the ‹little five› representing the insect Kingdom are fascinating when evaluated and explained by your Walking guide.

Boating Safaris: Boating safaris in flat bottomed boats are perhaps the most relaxing way to game view. Sharing the river with pods of hippo and floats of crocodiles giving you the opportunity to view birds nesting in the banks, monitor lizards and many water birds are just some of the highlights.

PLAN WITH US

Foxes Safari Camps offers a threenight, fly-in safari from Zanzibar to Nyerere National Park. Or perhaps you’d prefer to explore Tanzania’s mighty rivers during a sevennight itinerary between Nyerere National Park and Ruaha National Park, starting from Dar es Salaam. Meanwhile, our 10-day Tanzania Safari Explorer itinerary is geared to travellers wanting to experience three regions during a longer trip.

You won’t be disappointed staying at the lovely Rufiji River Camp. The Camp promises a relaxing and unique experience and the stunning scenery and wildlife in the park, we wish our stay would last forever!

“Fresh water fishing in Tanzania’s stunning lakes and rivers offers the chance to catch huge Nile Perch and Tilapia in stunning surroundings. If you’re a fishing enthusiastic, Tanzania has everything you could dream of, from fly fishing in crystal clear mountain streams, trolling the flood plains and the adventure and drama of deep-sea fishing.”

If you’re a fishing enthusiastic, Tanzania has everything you could dream of, from fly fishing in crystal clear mountain streams, trolling the flood plains and the adventure and drama of deep-sea fishing.”

Deep sea fishing in Tanzania is an experience to be savoured. The Indian Ocean is rich in fish, with tuna and pelagics migrating through the Pemba Channel every year, with snapper, grouper and sharks in residence all year round. Imagine sailing through deep blue waters, the sun on your back as you wrestle a 30kg dorado or yellow fin tuna on board.

There’s a number of private companies and tour operators

specialising in deep sea fishing to guide you through the waters, offering fishing safaris for the dedicated angler. Zanzibar, Pemba and Mafia are the most popular destinations for deep sea fishing, with Dar es Salaam, Pangani and Tanga on the mainland.

For fresh water fishing, Tanzania’s lakes and rivers let you enjoy fly fishing and catch and release.

Customised boats have light and heavy tackle, electronics, GPS and safety equipment for the serious international fisherman. Excursions usually last for a day, with boats bringing you and your catch back to your hotel in time for dinner but live abroad options are also available. If you’re after an authentic Tanzanian experience, you can head out

on the water with a fisherman in a dhow or a ngalawa canoe and see how it’s done by the locals.

For fresh water fishing, Tanzania’s lakes and rivers let you enjoy fly fishing and catch and release. Mwanza, on the shores of Lake Victoria, the world’s second largest fresh water lake, is home to huge Nile Perch and Tilapia. Fishing isn’t permitted inside national parks but there are a number of lakes and rivers in the buffer zone open to anglers and even rainbow trout farms in Arusha, allowing visitors to relax into the tranquillity of the truly beautiful surroundings, watch the bird life and wildlife go by.

During the rainy season, rivers and streams swell, reviving the land and waters, teeming with fish life, perfect for a fishing safari.

The Untold Story of Tingatinga Legacy

Tingatinga art is a familiar sight around Tanzania’s tourist centres. The exuberantly crowded canvases of fantastic birds, sinuously graceful animals and traditional village life can be seen across the country. Tingatinga is a uniquely African art form, characterized by its simplicity and brightly coloured two-dimensional images against a flat colour background. Tanzania World Heritage Sites

From the Heights of Kilimanjaro to Depths of Zanzibar

TANZANIA IS A COUNTRY WHICH ENCOMPASSES AN EXTRAORDINARY HISTORY AND AN ABUNDANCE OF NATURAL WONDERS; THEREFORE, IT IS NO SURPRISE TANZANIA HAS EIGHT WORLD HERITAGE SITES. THESE CHOSEN SITES ARE A FUNDAMENTAL REMINDER WHY INTERACTION BETWEEN PEOPLE AND NATURE MUST ACHIEVE A BALANCE OF PRESERVATION AND CONSERVATION BETWEEN THE TWO.”

STONETOWN, ZANZIBAR

Stone Town, or Mji Mkongwe in Swahili (meaning “ancient town”), is the oldest part of Zanzibar City. The old town is built on a triangular peninsula of land on the western coast of the island and was awarded World Heritage Site status in 2000. Justification for the inscription includes its rich cultural fusion and harmonization; its great symbolic importance in the suppression of slavery; and the intense seaborne trading activity between Asia and Africa, which is illustrated today in the exceptional architecture

and urban structure of Stone Town.

KILIMANJARO NATIONAL PARK

The Kilimanjaro National Park is located near Moshi, Tanzania. It is centered on the iconic and dramatic snow-clad slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, which covers an area of 753 km (291 square miles). In 1973, the mountain above the tree line was classified as a National Park and was opened to public access in 1977, but it wasn’t until 1987 UNESCO listed the park as a World Heritage Site.

KONDOA ROCK ART SITE

The Kondoa rock art site is a series of caves carved into the side of a hill looking out over the steppe. The cave site is nine kilometers off the main highway from Kondoa to Arusha, about 20 km north of Kondoa. The site has a spectacular collection of images from over 150 shelters depicting elongated people, animals, and hunting scenes. Today many of the shelters are still considered to have ritual associations with the

people who live nearby, reflecting their beliefs and cosmological traditions.

THE NGORONGORO CONSERVATION AREA

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) boasts the finest blend of landscapes, wildlife, people and archaeological sites in Africa and is situated 180 km west of Arusha. The rich pasture and permanent water of the crater floor supports a large resident population of wildlife

of up to 25,000 predominantly grazing animals. The conservation area is administered by the NCA Authority, and its boundaries follow the boundary of the Ngorongoro Division of Ngorongoro District. It covers an area of 8,288 km (3,200 square miles).

SELOUS GAME RESERVE

The Selous Game Reserve covers a total area of 54,600 km (21,081 square miles) and is

June 2024 | Dar Life 51

one of largest fauna reserves of the world, located in the south of Tanzania. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982 due to the diversity of its wildlife and undisturbed nature. The reserve is home to typical savannah animals such as elephants, hippopotami, the rare African Wild Dog and crocodiles, which are all found in larger numbers compared to any other African park.

SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

The Serengeti National Park is Tanzania’s oldest park, and one of the world’s last great wildlife refuges, hence its World Heritage Site status. It is most famous

for its annual migration of over one million white bearded (or brindled) wildebeest and 200,000 zebra. The park covers 14,763 km (5,700 square miles) of grassland plains and savannah as well as riverine forest and woodlands. The park lies in the north of the country, bordered to the north by the national Tanzania and Kenyan border, where it is contiguous with the Masai Mara National Reserve.

RUNS OF KILWA KISIWANI AND RUINS OF SONGO MNARA

The remains of these two great East African ports admired by early European explorers are situated on two small islands near

the coast. From the 13th to the 16th century, the merchants of Kilwa dealt in gold, silver, pearls, perfumes, Arabian crockery, Persian earthenware and Chinese porcelain; much of the trade in the Indian Ocean thus passed through their hands. Serious archaeological investigation began in the 1950s. In 1981 it was declared a World Heritage Site, and noted visitor sites are the Great Mosque, the Mkutini Palace and some remarkable ruins. However, the ruins are also on the List of World Heritage Sites in Danger. The list constitutes a call to improve their safe guarding and is designed to rally national and international efforts for their preservation.

C CRREEAATTE E A BASIC MARKETING P PLLAAN N

Use the Six-Step Process Below to Create Your Basic Marketing Plan;

1

What Do You Sell?

Clearly define your product, including the features and benefits. Make a list of each product or service you offer, and under each one, list the corresponding benefits to the consumer.

2

. To Whom Do You Sell? Create a detailed customer profile. If you market directly to consumers, list demographics: age, gender, lifestyle, location, preferences, interests, etc. Where do they go? What do they read? Listen to? Watch? If you market to businesses, describe your ideal business client, include the size of company, number of employees, gross sales, location, etc. What do they want? What concerns and challenges do they face, especially those your product

addresses?

3

. What are you Going To Tell Them

Write a marketing message directed specifically to your target customer. Focus on the benefits (not features) you offer. Concentrate on one thing: what’s in it for them!

place to achieve the future you want for this business.

6

. How Do You Plan to Get There ?

Define s pecific, realistic marketing goals. Plan how you will measure the results.

Decide which marketing strategies you will use, for example: networking, cold calling, mailings, advertising, website, emails, & promotional events. Select two or three you could use to jump-start your marketing. Brainstorm the best tactics for each of the strategies you’ve selected. For example, if you chose networking as a strategy, your tactics might be to attend certain events each week, revise your 30-second commercial and produce marketing materials to hand out.

Assign time and dollar resources for each strategy you’ve chosen.

Malkia wa Nguvu 2024

A Landmark Event for Women’s Empowerment in Tanzania

The celebrated Malkia Wa Nguvu platform, conceptualised and organised by Clouds Media Group, lit up the prestigious Mlimani City Conference Center with its vibrant celebration of women’s empowerment and achievements. More than an event, Malkia Wa Nguvu has become a transformative movement, dedicated to harnessing and amplifying the immense potential within every Tanzanian woman.

Since its inception eight years ago, Malkia Wa Nguvu has steadfastly honoured women’s accomplishments. Each year’s theme has inspired participants to reach new heights. From “Sabishaa” (2023), urging women to exceed expectations, to “Tupo Saiti” (2022), emphasizing going all out in economic activities, these themes have galvanized women to showcase their talents and resilience. This year’s theme, “Weka Tuweke” (“INVEST AND WE’LL INVEST”), carried a powerful promise— encouraging women to invest in themselves, and assured that Clouds Media and its partners would invest in them too.

Clouds Media Group took bold strides by offering free airtime for women’s advertisements, amplifying their work to a wider audience. Expanding its reach, the platform is set to visit seven regions over eight months, significantly

increasing from the previous single-month duration. This expansion will open more doors for women nationwide to showcase their talents and achievements, truly democratizing the opportunity for recognition.

The platform’s goals are to honour women making significant contributions in various fields, provide platforms for networking and collaboration, and inspire women to pursue their dreams. By highlighting their achievements and offering educational programs, Malkia Wa Nguvu fosters an environment where women

Gracing the occasion as the guest of honour was Hon. Dr. Kitila Mkumbo, Minister of the President’s Office, Planning and Investment. Among the esteemed invited guests was Hon. CRDB BANK PLC

29th Annual General Meeting

The shareholders of CRDB Bank Plc, the Tanzania’s largest lender by assets, unanimously approved the Board of Directors’ recommendation on the payout of TZS 50 dividend per share which brings the total value of dividend for the 2023 financial year to TZS 130.6 billion, which is 30.9% of the net profit.

The Group CEO and Managing Director, Abdulmajid Nsekela highlighted that the ‘Evolve’ strategy has been crucial for the bank’s success, acting as a roadmap for performance improvement. Significant investments in digital systems have modernized operations, and the Bank made notable progress in implementing the new Core Banking System (CBS) during the year.

In his statement during the Bank’s 29th Annual General Meeting held at Arusha International Conference Centre (AICC), the Bank’s Board Chairman Dr. Ally Laay said the approved dividend per share is an increase of 11 per cent compared to the TZS 45 per share issued last year, which signals a strong and progressive growth in earnings per share that

stood at TZS 161.9 compared to TZS 134.1 in 2022.

“Once again, we are pleased to deliver sustainable value to shareholders. The Bank’s performance in 2023 produced remarkable results, which is testament to the success of our new five years medium term strategy ‘Evolve’ 2023 - 2027. The Group secured net profits of

TZS TZS 422.8 billion, an increase of 20.3%,” said Dr. Laay.

He further noted that the Bank’s subsidiaries also made positive contributions. CRDB Bank Burundi achieved an impressive 30.7% YoY growth in Profit After Tax, reaching TZS 30.2 billion. He said that despite CRDB Bank Congo and CRDB Insurance Company Ltd not making a profit,

June 2024 | Dar Life 62

the subsidiaries have shown a promising start, indicating they will have a significant impact in the future. The total subsidiary contribution to Group Profit After Tax stood at 6%, indicating a growing potential for profitability.

“I’m happy that the regional expansion efforts of the company are yielding positive results, with the Burundi subsidiary leading in profits during the first quarter of 2024. Additionally, the DRC subsidiary has made a notable impact in the Congolese market since its establishment in midJuly 2023, attracting significant interest from local customers and businesses community,” he added.

The Bank’s CFO, Fredrick Nshekanabo, reported that the Group’s performance for FY 2023 showed a robust balance sheet, with YoY growth of 14.5% to TZS 13.3 trillion from TZS 11.6 trillion in 2022. This growth was primarily driven by a 22.8% increase in loans and advances to TZS 8.4 trillion, funded by an 8.0% rise in customer deposits, a 73.9% increase in borrowing, and a 17.5% growth in shareholders’

funds. The Group maintained NPL ratio of 2.8%, below the regulatory threshold of 5%.

Nsekela also stated that the Bank has invested significantly in promoting financial inclusion, targeting entrepreneurs, and businesses. Through CRDB Bank Foundation IMBEJU program, the Bank has improved financial access for youths and women. Additionally, the Bank has formed strategic partnerships to better fund development projects in the country.

Nsekela outlined the Group’s future plans, emphasizing unity among established companies, expansion into Africa, enhancing services through digital innovation, community engagement, improved risk management, compliance with regulations, and maintaining good governance.

On the other note, Shareholders approved for Price Water Coopers (PWC) as the Bank`s External Auditors for the financial year 2024, signaling their faith in company’s intellectual enactment and the Bank`s continued

adherence to good governance protocols.

The Bank’s shareholders also reelected two Board Members, Prof. Faustine Bee to represent shareholders with less than 1% ownership, and Mr. Gerald Kassato to represent shareholders with shares between 1% and 10% ownership.

Commenting on the dividend payout, the Bank’s former Group CEO and the Member of Parliament for Vunjo, Dr. Charles Kimei, expressed the delight of shareholders over the consistent payment of dividends by CRDB Bank, noting that the bank’s shares remain the toast of investors because the bank has never failed to pay dividends to shareholders.

The Importance of Diversity Training for Your Customer Service Staff

The importance of diversity training being fostered within your employees helps to develop better and more understanding staff members while it also facilitates the efforts to increase revenue, expand the client base, and improve the workplace environment for everyone involves.

to be prepared and adept at helping any and all individuals who are there seeking the products and services

must the antiquated ways and prejudices of previous generations go the way of the dinosaur.

The following details 5 core principles that develop diversity skills within your customer service employees:

showing respect for every single customer is tantamount to offering unparalleled customer service. Every customer regardless of race, language, religion, ethnicity, gender, age, and sexual orientation deserves the utmost amount of respect from each and every employee.

Remove all Preconceived Notions – stereotyping of an individual is not only bad for your business but could cause further harm through negative publicity and lawsuits. All employees must be thoroughly taught to let go of their previously held conventions and see each person as an individual and not pigeon-hole them based on who or what they believe them to be.

by paying attention to the customer’s actions, employee can quickly adjust their demeanour and personality personal attention.

your customer service staff must learn to express a positive and supportive attitude towards clients. When a customer believes the staff is genuinely concerned about their needs, it disarms them and allows for better communication employee and starts to rely on and value their opinion.

Customers crave the spotlight and rightly so as they keep your businesses running. Everyone wants to be treated fairly, with respect and compassion – the simplest way to ingrain this in your employees is to remind them to think about how they would want to be treated as a customer.

When the colors mix on a fabric to form bold, vibrant designs, you get a stunning African print. Tanzanian designers are not letting that opportunity pass by, they use all their imagination to create masterpieces.

They are claiming the fashion industry stage from the Swahili Fashion Week in Dar es Salaam to the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in South Africa. Tanzanian designers are pushing the boundaries with a simple “Kitenge” leaving masterpieces in their wake.

Eleanor is the Tanzanian fashion designer who has dedicated a passion for fashion by designing wedding and evening outfits for almost two years. She has been designing and selling wedding outfits as well as attending different fashion events especially in China including world fashion week Jiangsu-China, Suzhou fashion exhibition as well as Jiangsu fashion world trading Centre.

Every month Dar Life dedicates this section to young emerging and wellknown designers who want to create brands and use the fashion platform as a stepping stone towards achieving their dream. This month we met Eleanor whose ideas in designing clothes and accessories are amazing, you must watch out!

Eleanor was born in Mwanza-Tanzania as a fourth born among seven children, then graduated her degree at the College of business education Dar es Salaam in 2014. She started working firstly as the administrative officer at arctic holdings Iringa up to 2016, then as the bank officer at CRDB Bank plc Mwanza up to 2018.

Dedicating her passion for fashion, she established her own fashion brand (ENOFITS) for designing wedding and evening dresses while working, which lead to discover that she needed more knowledge, skills and experience for something she likes the most thus she decided to quit her job and relocated to China while continuing with the business expecting to gain more knowledge and create connections with different people from different places for raw materials, new ideas and expansion.

Her customers are located in Tanzania so she has one employee in Tanzania who manages all activities that demand Enofits presence like taking measurements, collecting orders, controlling payments and delivery. In the near future she plans to open a designing garment and a training Centre in Tanzania for youth with designing passion.

Currently the business is conducted online but in the near future we’re looking forward to opening a garment, clothing store and a fashion designing training centre in Dar es salaam – Tanzania.

Enofits is a business brand which deals with designing and selling wedding and evening outfits mainly in Tanzania since December 2017. More of our attention is paid to details and quality of the products we provide to bring out that perfect look to customers. The idea came out after realizing that finding a perfect outfit for a special event is always stressful so considering a talent and love for fashion, we considered establishing this brand.
