Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA) is taking steps to address overcrowding at wildebeest migration viewing sites in Serengeti National Park. Deputy Conservation Commissioner Massana Mwishawa announced new initiatives to combat issues like reckless driving, overcrowding, and delays at entry points, particularly at the popular Kogatende site. The park sees up to 600 vehicles and 4,200 tourists daily during peak seasons. TANAPA plans to upgrade infrastructure, deploy new patrol vehicles, and conduct awareness sessions for tour guides. The goal is to protect the delicate balance of the wildebeest migration while maintaining tourism revenue. Tanzania Association of Tour Operators chairman Wilbard Chambulo expressed concerns about reckless driving affecting wildlife and tourist experiences. Proposed solutions include creating special zones with additional fees, implementing a booking system, and improving infrastructure. The initiative aims to redefine wildlife conservation and tourism management in the Serengeti, balancing ecological preservation with sustainable tourism practices for the iconic wildebeest migration.

Tarangire

National Park

Home of the largest and wonderful African elephants

Tarangire National Park is the sixth largest national park in Tanzania after Ruaha, Serengeti, Mikumi, Katavi and Mkomazi. The name of the park originates from the Tarangire River that crosses through the park, being the only source of water for wild animals during dry seasons. During the dry season, thousands of animals migrate to the Tarangire National Park from Manyara. The park is famous for its huge number of elephants, baobab trees and tree climbing African pythons. It lies a short distance to the southeast of Lake Manyara and covers an area of approximately 2,850 square kilometers.”

Lies to the south of the large open grass plains of southern Maasailand and is the best-kept secret on the northern safari circuit. It offers wonderful panoramas of wide savannah grasslands dotted with open acacia woodland studded with large baobab trees. The park is central to Tanzania’s northern circuit, with Arusha and Kilimanjaro National Parks to one side and Lake Manyara and Serengeti National Parks and Ngorongoro Crater to the other.

Landscape

Being such a large park, the landscape of Tarangire varies greatly as you move about.

For starters you have plenty of grassland plains dotted with ancient baobab trees. You also have riverine woodlands, rocky hills, rugged gullies, bushland.

The primary river running through the park is Tarangire River, and because of this you also have numerous swamps and floodplains. Trees include not only baobabs, but also sausage trees, beautiful acacias (thorn trees), fan palms and candelabra

trees (euphorbias), among others.

Wildlife Migration

The Tarangire National Park forms part of a bigger wildlife ecosystem covering over 20,000 sq km, which include the Lake Manyara National Park in the north, as well as five other surrounding wildlife-controlled areas. The key to this wildlife ecosystem is the Tarangire River, and the local animal migration in the area begins from this river, at the start of the short rainy season around October every year. At the height of the long rainy season, the animals, which include wildebeest, Thompson gazelles, zebra and even African elephants, will be widely spread out over this 20,000 sq km area. When the wet season ends, the animals begin their migration back towards the river and spend the dry season July to October, concentrated in large numbers around the river.

Flora & Fauna

The park’s most obvious features are the permanent Tarangire River,

which runs the length of it, and the vast ‘swamps’ – which are, in fact, dry for most of the year. Despite the fact that Tarangire is drier than the Serengeti, its vegetation is generally much more dense including densely packed elephant grass, large areas of mixed acacia woodlands and some lovely ribbons of riverine forest.

Birds Life

Enjoy seeing a diverse range of beautiful and rare bird species during your vacation in Tarangire national park. The marshes of Tarangire are home to around 550 distinct bird species. Tarangire is a wellknown safari site for bird lovers who find themselves engrossed for an extended period of time. gazelles, coke’s hartebeests, Bohor reed-buck, the greater and lesser kudu and on rare occasion you can see the rare gerenuk and the fringe-eared oryx. Getting there

By Car: Tarangire National Park is 120 km southwest as the bird flies from the city of Arusha. The drive from Arusha to Tarangire is 140 km along the A104, and takes three hours. By plane: You can also fly into the Tarangire National Park, using one of the airstrips. The most used is Tarangire airstrip but there’s others. Charter flights are available through companies such as Safari Airlink, Flight Link, Coastal Aviation and Auric Air from Arusha Airport.

When To Go

The park can be visited at any time of the year, but the best time for wildlife viewing is the dry season from June to November,

at least if you’re hoping to see the larger animals. During this time, the animals gather around the river which is the only source of water, so they’re easy to spot there.

Where To Stay

There are several accommodation facilities inside and outside the park but our recommendation is as follow;

· Tarangire View Camps: Offers 12 spacious house-style tents, this camp represents the ultimate safari “bush feeling” as it offers a stunning location with more than just a touch of comfort and privacy in one of Tanzania’s most scenically beautiful national parks.

· Maramboi Tented Lodge: It has been designed and decorated in a modern African style that creates a fresh and light ambiance, very welcoming but with a touch of luxury. Guests can observe the Great Migration from the comfort of their tents.

You won’t be disappointed to have a few days safari in the Tarangire National Park. This park is ideal for game drives, walking safaris, hot air balloon safaris, bird walks, day trips to Maasai and Barabaig villages and photography. Tarangire promises a relaxing and unique experience. If you are looking for a more personal and quieter gaming safari, Tarangire National Park could be your ideal location!

Tanzania Marine Travel The Deep

Not only is Tanzania the number one destination for safaris, its endless coral reefs in the crystalline waters of the Indian Ocean offer some of the best diving and snorkeling in the world.

The archipelago of islands off the coast of Tanzania and Zanzibar are surrounded by coral reefs and are home to an amazing array of wildlife and unique ecosystems, as well as providing shelter, sustenance and employment for local people.

From Mafia Island Marine Park, an unspoiled, uncommercialised island, where local people go about their traditional businesses in a way (as

far as one can tell) they have done for centuries, to Maziwe Island Marine Reserve, which only appears during low tide, Tanzania’s marine parks and reserves are exceptionally rich in their diversity of cultural, coral, fish, bird and plant life. In order to protect and manage these areas from over fishing, mangrove deforestation, and coral mining, the following marine parks and reserves have been established and can be visited for day trips and longer stays.

Parks

DAR ES SALAAM, MARINE RESERVES

A group of marine wildlife reserves in Tanzania, situated off the coast of Dar es Salaam Region. The reserve system consists of Seven (7) islands of Bongoyo, Mbudya, Pangavini, Fungu Yasini, Makatobe, Sinda and Kendwa. The Dar es Salaam Marine Reserves are unique for many reasons – their proximity to the city, potential biodiversity and richness, good scenic diving and snorkelling

sites, marine birds and dolphin viewing. Occasionally hunchback whales are also spotted in the deep waters around the reserves from May to August. The islands are open to visitors during the day and have bandas (to keep you out of the sun), information boards and nature trails. Drinks and freshly cooked fish can be purchased from local community members, who also serve as tour guides and rangers.

MAFIA, MARINE PARK

Located 120 km south of Dar es Salaam, is surrounded by some of the richest reefs in the world, with over 50 types of corals and 400 species of fish identified so far. Mafia’s best diving is at depths less than 30m where you can see most kinds of tropical marine habitats, including exposed fringing reefs, rock walls, soft coral and algae dominated reefs. Large predatory fish and turtles are

common and mostly unaffected by approaching divers. Chole Bay, Mafia’s deep-water anchorage, is part of the protected marine park. The diving here is amongst the most spectacular in the world and includes colourful coral gardens, walls at various levels and many shelves and coral heads.

CHUMBE ISLAND, MARINE SANCTUARY

Chumbe offers some of the most pristine and colourful coral reefs in the world, with over 200 species of coral providing a sanctuary for more than 400 species of colourful fish. To protect these coral reefs, diving is not permitted in the marine park. The reef is shallow enough to see everything very clearly with a mask, snorkel and fins. There is also a coral-rag forest, which is home to the endangered Ader’s Duiker, giant Coconut Crabs, hermit crabs and a variety of bird species. Knowledgeable guides take guests on daily snorkelling and forest tours. Chumbe can be visited for day trips or longer, staying in ‘ecobungalows’ overlooking the Indian Ocean. Chumbe Island contains a lighthouse (which is still operational and was built by the British in 1904), a ruined mosque and the lighthouse keeper’s house, is now converted into a spectacular education centre and restaurant. All profits from tourism on Chumbe Island are reinvested into the conservation and education programs operating in the Park, and the island is staffed and managed by local Zanzibaris from the fishing community with voluntary support from overseas experts.

MAZIWE ISLAND, MARINE RESERVE

One of the oldest Marine Reserve in Tanzania which located about 15 has

over 350 fish species, 35 genera of coral and exceptional bird life. Maziwe Island was designated a reserve in the 1970s due to erosion caused from firewood collecting. The island now only emerges from the sea at low tide and is an ideal place for swimming, snorkelling, diving and sunbathing.

Mafia’s Best Diving Is At Depths Less Than 30 M Where You Can See Most Kinds Of Tropical Marine Habitats Including Exposed Fringing Reefs, Rock Walls, Soft Coral And Algae Dominated Reefs.

MENAI BAY, CONSERVATION AREA

In the southwest of Zanzibar Island, near Fumba to the west and Unguja Ukuu to the east, Menai Bay is a sea-turtle breeding area and also encompasses several coral reefs, an abundance of marine life and dense mangrove forests. It is also famous for its Humpback and Bottlenose Dolphins. It extends from the southwest corner of Zanzibar Island encompassing several small islands and sand banks each with its own spectacular coral reef. Traditional boats make regular trips for snorkelling on the reefs, picnics on the islands and the star attraction of swimming with dolphins and whales.

MISALI ISLAND, CONSERVATION AREA (PEMBA)

Located just west of Pemba, has some of the highest recorded coral cover, and high species diversity with 40 genera of coral and 350 fish species. The 1 square kilometer of terrestrial area supports endangered nesting turtles, and the dense coastal thickets harbour

populations of green monkeys, the endangered and endemic Pemba Flying Fox, globally endangered Coconut Crabs and various species of birds. Economically, fishing at Misali provides direct livelihood support to 11,400 people. There is a non-extraction zone that covers part of the total conservation area. Recreational activities such as diving and snorkelling, passage and scientific research are permitted within the non-extraction zone, but any type of activity that depletes the area’s natural resources is not allowed (such as fishing or shell and coral collecting).

MNAZI BAY, MARINE PARK

Located in southern Tanzania, on the Mozambique border, is home to important populations of whales, dolphins, four species of turtle and numerous birds. The area is recognised as being internationally important for its biodiversity, with mangroves, sea grass beds and coral reefs inhabiting the island. There are 12 villages in the area and it is hoped that visitors to the marine park will help the local economy of this area, one of the poorest and least developed in Tanzania.

MNEMBA, CONSERVATION AREA

Located about 4.5 km off the northeastern tip of Zanzibar Island. The island is 1.5 km in circumference and is surrounded by spectacular coral reefs. Turtles lay and hatch their eggs all year round and there is excellent diving and snorkelling. The only human inhabitants of the island are the staff and guests staying at the exclusive, luxury lodge.

Whether you plan to dive, snorkel, kayak or take a boat ride through these Marine Parks you are sure to see some amazing sea-life!

CRDB BANK PLC

Launch of New Promotion in Collaboration with Qatar Airways and Visa

CRDB Bank, in collaboration with its strategic partner, Visa International, has announced a 12% discount on airfare for Qatar Airways passengers who pay for their tickets using Tembocard Visa cards. This discount includes a 12% reduction provided by Visa International, along with a 10% cashback that will be credited to the CRDB Bank customer’s account after purchasing their ticket.

Speaking to the press in the city during the launch of this six-month campaign, CRDB Bank’s Director of Retail and Business Banking, Bonaventura Paul, stated that this partnership aims to cultivate a culture among customers to use cards for payments instead of cash.

“This 12% discount is part of an incentive for customers to develop the habit of using cards for payments. I take this opportunity to invite our customers who wish to travel using Qatar Airways to take advantage of this offer,” said Paul, noting that this discount

is also enough for passengers to buy gifts for their loved ones while travelling.

The Director stated that the partnership between CRDB Bank, Visa International, and Qatar Airways involves two large institutions known for their high standards both domestically and internationally, which have earned them various awards. Since the early 2000s, Paul said CRDB Bank has received approximately 200 domestic and international awards, including for providing excellent Visa services, while Qatar Airways has won the Skytrax award for the best airline eight times between 2011 and 2024. The airline has also won awards for the world’s best business class, the world’s best business class lounge, and the best airline in the Middle East.

“CRDB Bank and Qatar Airways also share a commitment to innovation. Our bank is a leader in innovative services and products that meet the needs and expectations of our customers, and similarly, Qatar Airways has won international awards for its innovation. Moreover, we both

care about and are committed to environmental sustainability,” Paul explained.

Qatar Airways Resident Manager, Isaack Wambua, said their aircraft, headquartered at Hamad International Airport in Doha, which has won the world’s best airport award three times since 2021, land at another 170 airports worldwide, providing their passengers with the assurance of reaching any destination they wish while CRDB Bank ensures they complete their journey at an affordable cost.

“This CRDB Bank discount, which will run until December this year, is available to all our customers who use Tembocard Visa cards, which number over four million. Recognizing that they have businesses abroad and travel for various purposes, we believe they will seize this opportunity to travel with Qatar Airways to their desired destinations,” Wambua said.

THE IMPORTANCE OF CLARITY IN YOUR CAREER Powering Through the Land of Soulless Work

Look around you - are you like many of the people in the working world trudging through the land of soulless workers? People who dread going to work everyday, fear seeing their boss and feel tense meeting their clients? How do you then power yourself through the land of zombie workers? Be clear when you are at work if you are looking to differentiate Yourself from the others.

1.Get Clarity About the Task at Hand

Let’s start to be clear with the simplest of all. Have clarity of the task at hand. What is it you need to do? Some people like to make assumptions on the things they need to do. They fail to ask and clarify thinking they know it all.

2.Clarify Your Own Goals

Do you know what you want? This applies to both your work and your personal life. Some people like to blame their work for their unhappiness, not knowing the source of displeasure is from their personal life.

3.Evaluate the Challenges

What are some of the challenges

you are facing now at work? Is it a lack of skills or particular knowledge? Is it an issue with colleagues? Be clear on these challenges. How are you going to tackle them and what is your plan of action? The reason you are seeing a lot of soulless workers is because these people talk, whine and complain without being clear on what needs to be done and acting accordingly

4.Establish Mindfulness

Clarity of mind is very important. You need to be able to distinguish

things that you cannot change. What are the things you can do practically and how can you do them? There is no point trying to solve a problem that cannot be solved. Knowing whether a problem can be solved or not takes experience. How does experience come? By doing it, going through it, and failing at times. Learning always has a price, but it has even higher rewards.

6.Use Clear Speech

Whether you are taking instructions, requesting for something or giving instructions, learn to be clear in your communications at work. It is an important skill that will take you very far.

7.Act with Integrity

Act in accordance with your highest values - avoid politics, back-stabbing, and gossip at all costs. You will make more friends and less enemies, you will be able to influence others more positively, and you will rest knowing your conscience is clean and you did the best you could in every situation.

Career clarity is a crucial component of career success. It gives people direction and motivation, and it helps them make smart choices about their career paths. But getting career clarity can be hard, and people may face several problems. Career clarity can be affected by limited exposure to career options, pressures from the outside, and a lack of resources.

CREATE A BASIC BUSINESS MARKETING PLAN

SIX EASY STEPS TO SUCCESS

I KNOW WE NEED A MARKETING PLAN, BUT I’M NOT SURE WHERE TO START. AND, QUITE FRANKLY, I DON’T HAVE TIME TO STOP AND FIGURE IT OUT. THIS COMMENT MADE RECENTLY BY A CLIENT IS TYPICAL OF THE DILEMMA FACED BY MANY SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS. WE KNOW THAT WE NEED A MARKETING PLAN, BUT THE THOUGHT OF TAKING TIME TO WRITE ONE CAN SEEM OVERWHELMING.

Use the Six-Step Process Below to Create Your Basic Marketing Plan;

1.What do you sell?

Clearly define your product, including the features and benefits. Make a list of each product or service you offer, and under each one, list the corresponding benefits to the consumer.

2.To whom do you sell?

Create a detailed customer profile. If you market directly to consumers, list demographics: age, gender, lifestyle, location, preferences, interests, etc. Where do they go? What do they read? Listen to it? Watch? If you market to businesses, describe your ideal business client, including the size of the company, number of employees, gross sales, location, etc. What do they want? What concerns and challenges do they face, especially those your product addresses?

3.What are you going to tell them?

Write a marketing message directed specifically to your target customer. Focus on the

benefits (not features) you offer. Concentrate on one thing: what’s in it for them!

4.Where are you now?

You need this as a benchmark for future tracking. Make a note of current marketing activities, the costs involved and, if possible, the revenue they generate.

5.Where do you want to be and when?

Visualise your business one, two and five years from now. What will it look like? Be specific. Consider what changes will need to take place to achieve the future you want for this business.

6.How do you plan to get there?

Define specific, realistic marketing goals. Plan how you will measure the results. Decide which marketing strategies you will use, for example: networking, cold

calling, mailings, advertising, website, emails, & promotional events. Select two or three you could use to jump-start your marketing. Brainstorm the best tactics for each of the strategies you’ve selected. For example, if you choose networking as a strategy, your tactics might be to attend certain events each week, revise your 30-second commercial and produce marketing materials to hand out.

Assign time and dollar resources for each strategy you’ve chosen.

Follow your plan, regularly review progress, track the results and modify where necessary. When something produces good results, stick with it. If it doesn’t work, stop or adapt it. By writing one step a day or one step each week, you’ll soon have a simple written marketing plan to guide you and ensure that you get the best return on your marketing dollar as you grow your company in the right direction.
