As electrifying as ever, the world's best-loved musical returns to Darlington.
After a whirlwind summer romance, leather-clad greaser Danny and girl-next-door Sandy are unexpectedly reunited when she transfers to Rydell High for senior year.
But can they survive the trials and tribulations of teenage life and find true love once more? Bursting with hits including 'Summer Nights', 'Greased Lightnin' and 'Hopelessly Devoted to You', Grease is simply the one that you want!

With over 20 soul classics performed live on stage including 'Night Train', 'Try A Little Tenderness', 'River Deep, Mountain High', 'In The Midnight Hour', 'Papa Was A Rolling Stone', 'Save Me', 'Mustang Sally', 'I Heard It Through The Grapevine', 'Reach Out', 'Uptight', 'Knock On Wood', and more, The Commitments is a fantastically feel-good celebration of soul.
Adapted from Roddy Doyle's novel by the Booker Prize winning author himself, starring Coronation Street legend Nigel Pivaro and directed by Andrew Linnie, The Commitments is the story of Jimmy Rabbitte, a young working class music fan who shapes an unlikely bunch of amateur musicians and friends into the finest soul band Dublin has ever produced. The show follows the journey of two members of a frustrated synthesizer band who turn to Jimmy, the local music expert, for help. Placing a classified advert in a music paper, Jimmy auditions a number of wannabes before finalising the new line up who he names The Commitments. The humour kicks in as the band get to know each other and their instruments, and proceed through early rehearsals for their first gig. Just as they improve and begin to get a name for themselves they combust. The backing singers are all getting off with the middle aged horn legend, the singer has entered Eurovision and the saxophone player has dangerous leaning towards a jazz career. It was 1977, the year of skin-tight polyester, the Queen's Silver Jubilee and Saturday Night Fever. The Sex Pistols were storming up the charts, skateboarding was the latest craze and Angela Rippon danced with Morecambe & Wise.

BYTHE WATERS OF LIVERPOOL
Directed by Gareth Tudor Price and adapted by Rob Fennah from Helen Forrester's million-selling book, By The Waters Of Liverpool revisits the characters, time and place that made Twopence To Cross the Mersey 'totally compelling' (Liverpool Echo).
During the Great Depression, Helen's father lost his fortune when the stock market crashed and the family were suddenly thrown into poverty. Leaving behind the nannies, servants and comfortable middle-class life in the South West of England, the Forrester's chose Liverpool as the place to start over. They were in for a terrible shock. Taken out of school to care for her younger brothers and sisters while her parents struggled to re-build their shattered lives, in 1935 16-year-old Helen is treated as an unpaid slave and desperate to escape; to educate herself and go out to work. By 1939, now aged twenty and with Britain on the brink of war, she has still never been kissed by a man. But things start looking up for Helen when she meets a tall strong seaman and falls in love.

'This show is all about the story. It is helped by having one hell of a story to tell. Just to give you a flavour: Irish father meets Iranian mother, baby Pat's first home in Khuzestan province is bombed and so the family drive 18,000 miles to Redcar. Where things get even less predictable.' Scotsman Edinburgh Fest '22.

Give the gift of theatre
Julie, Box Office and Sales Assistant:
'I think Hippodrome Gift Vouchers are an amazing Christmas gift idea! I'd buy one for a friend who I wanted to surprise with a gift that's just that little bit different.
With a gift voucher, the recipient can choose a performance they want to see at a date and time convenient to them, and enjoy a night out at our lovely theatre that they will remember much more than sweets or bed-socks.'
To purchase gift vouchers, scan the QR code or contact the box office. We also sell National Theatre Tokens in person at the counter.
Rebecca, Sales and Marketing Manager:
'During the 2016 restoration, my husband and I sponsored a seat, and my mum and dad sponsored the one beside it. Now I've got a little boy who loves going to the theatre as much as I do, so this Christmas I'd like to do the same for him, so that I can show him the plaque with his name on next time we visit the Hippodrome together.'
Scan the QR code to name a seat, or contact the box office to talk to one of our team.
Bev, Cleaning Supervisor:
'This Christmas, I'll have my neighbours round for a drink, but I hope it won't be as eventful as Abigail's Party! We like to have a laugh, and this is a classic comedy, so I'd buy them tickets, and they can let me know if I'm anything like the Beverly in the play. Plus I'm looking forward to seeing all the 70s fashions, and it's the same company that did Boeing Boeing earlier this year, so I know it's going to be good.'
To see what's on and book tickets, visit www.darlingtonhippodrome.co.uk
Andrew Hutchinson-Clish, Senior House Manager
'I would buy a Jonny Lancaster Hippodrome print for a Christmas present for my parents this year, they’ve both come many times to the theatre over the years and it holds such a special place in their hearts from coming as children, bringing their children to shows and my mum, as a teacher, bringing her reception classes to productions. The image of the Hippodrome is iconic and represents and means so much to our different audiences.'
To look at our range of merchandise, visit the Hippodrome where you'll find it on display at our box office, and sold at selected performances from the merchandise stand in the foyer.
