SERVICE + USER EXPERIENCE
What would waiting in the hospital be like in the near future? As technology progresses, there has been a shift of queuing models from archaic physical systems to virtual ones. This thesis explores the possibilities of mobile queuing with both the customer and service providers in mind. By applying 4 stages of queuing (ACCESS, ASSESS, EGRESS, ASSETS) throughout the pre/post service experience, it aims to integrate both the efficient and rewarding effects of tarrying. Ultimately, it hopes to achieve a holistic user experience, bringing significance and relevance to waiting in line of hospital visits and beyond. IN COLLABORATION WITH COLIN ONG
A conventional bicycle does not invite meaningful engagement due to its obtrusive form. Tripal explores the social aspect of cycling by relooking at its archetype. For a more intimate cycling experience, cyclists are able to interact face to face while on Tripal. The handlebar on Tripal is shifted to the sides and an upright cycling position is adopted. This is possible with the latest gyroscopic technology. Combining technology and aesthetic, a new ergonomy and typology is created.
PROBLEM ANALYSIS ONE COULD SAY THAT THE KEY ASPECT OF INVENTION OF THE BICYCLE IS BASED ON SPEED AND EFFICIENCY. ON THE OTHER HAND, THE LACK OF MEANINGFUL ENGAGEMENTS IS APPARENT BETWEEN PEOPLE DUE TO THE OBTRUSIVE POSTURE OF THE CYCLIST, AS WELL AS THE OBSTRUCTIVE YET UNSTABLE STRUCTURE OF A BICYCLE.

During my student exchange programme in ENSCI Les Atelier, I was working for Union Française de l’Electricité (UFE) to explore the design possibilities of macro scale hydroelectricity projects. We began as a studio researching on relevant topics and problems before ideating with new concepts at proposed sites. The deliverables were to create a scaled model, presentation panels of renderings and a short writeup describing the features of our proposed design.

It began with an existential statement of what luxury is. It developed into a critical essay which expounded on the same statement. It then translated itself into a tangible object that symbolizes the meaning of the concept. I decided to touch on the topic of inheritance by creating a service platform for users to leave behind a personal message. It would be embodied into a self-inking stamp containing a 4 X4cm QR code. the properties of fire. The family heirloom that was passed down from generations could also be seen as a luxury item not for the monetary value pertaining to it, but for the preservation of history of generations. It would thus be appropriate to consider such inheritances as a form of luxury. Bringing luxury and inheritance onto a personal level, it can also be defined as the collection of money, property, or a title as an heir at the death of the previous holder. It would be considered as an act of benevolence for a parent to transfer all of his/her assets to their children before they die. For the child who relies on their parents from the beginning, this notion is a form of luxury. What he receives is not of his own, but is of that of the previous generation, and it is through a kinship bond that one is capable of receiving these gifts. The sum of money that was left

the poem, All the world's a stage, which depicts the stages of a human life. At every moment of one's life, part of their inheritance is given to them. The moment when a baby is born, he/she has nothing, except for his/her "mewling and puking in the nurse's arms". It seems that at this point of a baby's life, the simplest form of inheritance is given to him/her: food from her mother. This is by far one of the mildest form of inheritance, yet it is the beginning phase of a transferable act between generations. Larry Cheng of IDEO puts it in this manner, "1 + 1 = 3; 1 + 1 = 0.75... having a baby creates a life and takes one away." As he creates a set of plates that symbolizes the sacrifice of a parent's former life in place of a new one, it provokes a sense of ironical love given

luxury through the phenomenological actions and object. The dichotomy between both notions would be the values placed in it. Dayle A. Shockley sums it all by claiming that "wealth is not measured by the size of one's estate at the end of life's journey, but rather by the splendid memories and moments collected along the way. The question beckons whether if luxury can be associated as a form of qualitative inheritance. This essay attempts to find relevant examples and objects that amplifies this message of finding perceived luxury in inheritance. INHERITANCES AS STAGES OF ONE'S LIFE

undergraduate may receive his first laptop, or a sponsored student exchange trip. The newly weds may receive a wedding subsidy and even a new property... While the list goes on, one can understand that it is not the parent's obligation to give away their inheritance at any one stage of one's life. Yet this spontaneous giving, regardless of the monetary value attached to it, is the reason makes one's inheritance enriching. It would thus be noteworthy that their satisfactions could be shared with their children's happiness; such that both luxuries interwines and edifies one another. INHERITANCES AS INCREMENTAL HABITUS

life. It may be consciously acquired, or passively "inherited" over time based on one's character and way of thinking, such as linguistic skills and/or cultural practices and beliefs. Cultural capital could be the knowledge or meaning behind an inherited item where a scientific instrument or painting is not priced merely by its rarity but by the understanding of the object. Without this, one might see a Michaelangeo painting as just a mere painting. Cultural capital could also be an academic credentials or qualifications which one acquires as compared to others who are not able to have the same educational opportunities.
Habitus is intrinsic in other environments over a period of time. With lengthy exposure of a particular education system, fusions of local flavours and contextual nuances, one can depict a distinguishable mixture of cultural inheritance, promoting 'luxurious' stimuli of all sorts. Singapore, the melting pot of shared lifestyles, illustrates the differing backgrounds where the old replaces the new and the affluent mingles with the underclass. Thus, each context has a charm which a person grows into: a first generation flat over the newly built executive apartment; a rustic kopitiam over the posh restaurant. It would not be

only extravagance the American rich of the first half of the nineteenth century could indulge in with good consciences." This opens the debate on deriving their luxuries through their own affluence. However, Kevin Johnson accounts for up to 30 to 40 percent of the population of charitable donors in US who are willing to make or to consider making a charitable bequest. This shows a growing number that draws their satisfaction by giving through philanthropy. Robert F. Sharpe Jr confirms that the average bequest of $35,000 in the U.S comes from the archetype of a retired woman who does not have a legacy to pass on, or are already living comfortably. This act of giving contradicts

survival of the fittest (or the wealthiest in this case), as parents would have instinctively provide for their children, leaving no room for competitors to share their resources. This being said, it does not mean the complete negligence of their sons and daughters as most parents would provide a leeway towards a less taxing life. But it would then be deemed appropiate for qualitative inheritance to take precedent over the lives of their successors, where treasured memories and endearment between one another is acknowledged and received by their children. TOP PRIZE FOR HAPPY OFFICE GIFTS & PREMIUM DESIGN COMPETITION
Corporate gifts and premiums are effective marketing tools, but are easily forgotten by consumers. However, if there is an attachment of an experiential encounter with the gift and the user, a lifelong memory would be created. Hence, an exquisite teabag collection, inspired by Singapore’s iconic oolong tea,
钓鱼(diao yu), has
been created to also cater to the caffeine needs of a working adult, both locally and internationally. Besides breaking apart from conventional appearance, the tea filter will also be made with environmental-friendly material for the sustainable consumer. IN COLLABORATION WITH SIM MIAOLING JESSICA TOH MEILING
The aim of this discovery exercise is to develop an understanding of the structural characteristics of the design of a magazine rack that is constructed from one sheet of cardboard as the sole component material.
PRAGMACTIC APPROACH OUR CONCEPT WAS TO BRING ABOUT A CERTAIN ARCHITECTURAL QUALITY INTO EVERYDAY PRODUCTS. THIS IS ACHIEVED THROUGH THE INSERTIONS OF DIVIDERS AT DIFFERENT LEVELS, CREATING A DECONSTRUCTIVE ARCHETYPE. IN ADDITION, MAGAZINE SITS NICELY ON THE LEVELS WITH THEIR TITLES EXPOSED. OUR MAGAZINE RACK INVOLVED A CHALLENGING PROCESS AS THE PLACEMENT OF THE SLOTS AND CONNECTORS WERE VERY MECHANICAL AND TIME-CONSUMING. NEVERTHELESS, IT ACHIEVED A SORT OF BEAUTY WHICH WAS MUCH APPRECIATED BY THE USERS.
