Una presentazione ELCAT (ELevate CApacità Tecnologiche) progetta, produce e fornisce sistemi studiati per il settore degli affettati e delle carni. Offre una gamma completa di macchine automatiche: dalla preparazione del prodotto in camere grigie al trasporto in camere bianche; dal ricevimento di porzioni di affettati, alla rotazione, sovrapposizione, smistamento e scarico automatico in vaschetta; dall’uscita delle vaschette confezionate all’inserimento automatico nei cartoni.

Nata nel 1996, in pochi anni, acquisisce una posizione di rilievo nell’ambito dei sistemi di confezionamento/caricamento degli affettati, non solo sotto il profilo dell’innovazione, ma anche sul piano dei risultati. A presentation ELCAT (an Italian abbreviation of High Technological Capacity) produces and supplies systems designed specially for the sliced products and meats sector. The company offers a complete range of automatic machines: from the preparation of the product in clean rooms to the conveyance of the same to sterile rooms; from the receival of portions of sliced product, to the automatic rotation, overlaying, shunting and offloading in trays; from the exit of the packed trays to the automatic casepacking of the same.

Set up in 1996, in just a few years the concern has won itself a key place in the field of sliced product packaging/loading of sliced product, not only in terms of innovation, but also in terms of results. This is shown by the company’s customer portfolio, that features some of the most important brands in the sector (Montana Alimentary, Parmacotto, Raspini etc.). These are achievements attained thanks to the constant development of leading edge technology, to the concern’s capacity to optimise production processes and to the precious synergies developed within the same, that have led to the creation of a winning team.

• The range of ELCAT machines starts with the LCAE series for the preparation and the conveyance of the products to be sliced from the clean rooms to the sterile rooms (photo 1).

This line enables the automatic conveyance of the product to be sliced (previously unwrapped and trimmed in a special preparation tray completing the line) up to its

I prodotti in peso, invece, proseguono lungo l’intera macchina, dove dei tappeti automatici comandati dal sistema PacDrive di ELAU, garantiscono un posizionamento preciso e rapido delle porzioni, nelle configurazioni da 2.1 a 4.4.

• Once sliced, the product passes onto the SAE family Flexloader (photo 2), that enables handling of up to 90 portions a minute. The loaders of this range enable the elimination of products that do not comply with the weight limits, indicated by the slicer, rerouting them to an upper belt (or positioned to one side if demanded). The products of the correct weight continue along the entire machine, where the automatic belts commanded by the ELAU PacDrive system guarantee an accurate and

rapid positioning of the portions in 2.1 and 4.4 configuration. Once the mould phase has terminated, the product is sent to the heatformer, where it is inserted in trays in an accurate and reliable followthrough procedure.

The SAE range interfaces with most slicing and heatforming machines available on the market and, thanks to its modular nature, it is extremely flexible. In fact the standard machine can be combined with additional models for rotating the product 90°, for upturning or overlaying more than one portion of

International and complete The experience built up in the field combined with the technological and market potential of the Schneider Electric group has even further boosted ELAU’s international activity, the company having reinforced its position on the world packaging machine automation market.

Elau has already achieved a dominant position in Germany and Italy - the world’s top packaging machine building nations; yet this is no longer enough. Having achieved the considerable turnover for 2007 of 63 million euro (in 2004 it was “only” 40, Ed), the packaging automation specialist is laying the basis for a further, decisive development in the motion/logic controls and servodrive field: on the one hand reinforcing its own position in its two principal markets, on the other extending its leadership over the rest of Europe, the USA and in Asia. How? Adding its own strongpoints to the opportunities offered by Schneider Electric, being able to use Schneider’s broad product portfolio to offer an ever increasingly complete range of solutions to the packaging world and related markets.

Presenting complete solutions means, in this case, a simple and rapid integration of the automation components of the Schneider Electric Group with the ELAU PacDrive control system, reducing engineering times; summed up, plug&play hardware completely integrated at software level. ELAU’s recognised strongpoints, or that is targeted focussing, high innovative capacity, flexibility and closeness to its customers, will be further empowered thanks to the commercial and service structure of a group present in 190 countries the world over.

Per questa gamma, come per tutti i sistemi ELCAT, la progettazione avviene fondendo gli aspetti legati alla funzionalità con le esigenze del cliente, a partire dalla disponibilità degli spazi: lo dimostra, per esempio, la possibilità di

A queste macchine possono essere associati vari modelli di nastri automatici per il convogliamento delle vaschette verso le etichettatrici, i sistemi di visione, ecc…

• ELCAT si spinge fino al fine linea, con le isole di incartonamento IECE (foto 4).

Si tratta di macchine estremamente compatte e versatili, che inseriscono le vaschette direttamente nel cartone o nell’espositore (una volta superati ovviamente tutti i controlli di qualità). Una serie di nastri automatici convoglia i cartoni fino alla zona di riempimento, dove avviene il caricamento delle vaschette.

L’incartonamento può essere eseguito in due modi: tramite sistema a tramogge (buona flessibilità a costi contenuti) o tramite il robot di ELAU modello PacDrive Robot P3, che permette di ottenere la massima flessibilità possibile. Grande vantaggio della soluzione ELAU è gestire sia la robotica che i rimanenti assi della macchina con la medesima - e, ricordiamo unica - unità di controllo.

Una volta riempito, il cartone procede verso una serie di tappeti di uscita per il suo ingresso nelle macchine nastratrici. ■

These are extremely compact and versatile machines, that insert the trays straight into the packing or display cases (once they have obviously passed all the quality controls).

A series of automatic belts convey the packing cases to the filling area, where the trays are loaded. The casepacking can be done in two

ways: via a hopper system (good flexibility and low costs) or via an ELAU PacDrive PC Robot P3, that enables the maximum flexibility possible.

The great advantage of ELAU’s solution is that it enables both the robotics and the remaining machine axes to be run using the same, single control unit.

Once filled, the packing case is directed towards a series of outfeed belts that take it to the ■ taping machine.

Oriental Motor è riuscita inoltre ad ottenere sia una riduzione ulteriore delle vibrazioni sia una maggiore precisione del passo.

Come la precedente serie Alpha-step, il nuovo driver evita la perdita del passo mediante un sistema ad anello chiuso, un sensore rileva automaticamente la posizione del rotore del motore e attiva il controllo in anello chiuso.

Sono state potenziate anche la durata e la precisione dell’angolo del passo (l’accuratezza dell’angolo è di 0,05°, con risoluzione del passo variante da 0,0036° a 0,36° per passo).

Oltre alla serie standard, senza riduttore, Oriental Motor è in grado di offrire versioni complete con riduttori assemblati ad ingranaggi conici, epicicloidali ed armonici a gioco 0. I driver sono disponibili con alimentazioni mono o trifase 200230 Vac e monofase 100-115 Vac. Tutti i modelli - conformi alla normativa RoHS - sono marchiati e certificati CE e UL. Ma le novità non finiscono qui.

The TM series is especially made for winding and feeding applications (where constant speed and voltage are required), tensioning of materials (to avoid unwanted slack), braking or other application where a control of the motor torque is needed.

The stable torque in a locked state or near-locked operation at low speed is ideal for tightening applications (screws, tops etc).

The torque setting is done by potentiometer or an external DC voltage of 5 or 10 vdc. A further potentiometer on the drive enables the fine tuning of motor torque on the basis of the input setting. In

La serie TM è indicata per applicazioni di avvolgimento/svolgimento (in cui sono richieste velocità e tensione costanti), tensionamenti di materiali (per evitare giochi indesiderati), frenature o altre applicazioni ove è necessario un controllo della coppia del motore.

Il valore della coppia, stabile a rotore bloccato o a bassissime velocità, rende inoltre questo motore ideale in applicazioni di serraggio (viti, tappi ecc.).

La regolazione della coppia avviene mediante un potenziometro o una tensione esterna (5 o 10 vdc). Un ulteriore potenziometro sul drive permette un aggiustamento fine della coppia del motore in base al valore settato in ingresso. Nelle macchine in cui sono utilizzati più motori in contemporanea, questa funzione è inoltre utile per regolare o creare piccole differenze di coppia.

La serie TM, che rispetto ai modelli tradizionali garantisce una maggiore precisione della regolazione di coppia, è disponibile con 4 valori di potenza resa (compresi tra 3 e 20 W), e un’ampia gamma di riduttori ad alberi paralleli, o di tipo lineare con valori di coppia resa fino a 10 Nm. Il film plastico, utilizzato per avvolgere i più svariati tipi di prodotti (ad esempio bottiglie, vasetti, alimenti in genere), permette di conservare e preservare il prodotto durante il trasporto. “Seeing” through plastic films M.D. Micro Detectors of Modena has created a new control URS series control module for high powered optical sensors. Plastic film, used in the packaging machines to wrap up the more various kind of products (i.e. bottles, jars, food in general), has the function of conserving and preserving the product throughout transport. In that the heatshrink film that clads the pack is used as a means for advertising, the covering also bears wording and logos. This is why it is rare to find wrappings that are totally transparent. Here optical sensors can encounter some read problems. In particular, the DG series sensors, with a range of up to 75 m, enable “seeing” through plastic films of different colors, thickness and transparency.

DATASENSOR is proposing the SVS2 series of vision sensors, characterized by its ease of use. Setup is carried out on a PC using Ethernet connection. The software for the PC is included in the product and designed in order to guide the user step by step in the creation of the inspection. Different models according to different software tools are available: Object Recognition, Advanced Object Recognition (with 360° pattern matching), Identification (Barcode, Datamatrix and OCV).

IL PROGETTO

«Definito un paio di anni fa, lo scopo principale del progetto Phoenix - precisa Machiavelli - era quello di compiere un passo tecnologico in avanti, aggiornando il sistema di controllo delle nostre macchine con tecnologia digitale. Utilizzando componenti di automazione “standard”, siamo anche riusciti a diminuire i costi hardware complessivi, con l’ulteriore vantaggio di una piena connettività con un sistema di comunicazione digitale. È stato inoltre fondamentale poter comunicare sia all’interno che all’esterno dell’azienda, tramite standard diffusi, come le reti Ethernet e i protocolli Internet.

Ma i vantaggi ottenuti non finiscono qui.

As well as improving the system’s diagnostic characteristics, we have managed to generally reduce costs, both at the level of components as well as in terms of the machine overall (workforce, assembly times and servicing etc) and, thanks to the adoption of a speedier industrial PC with Linux operating system, we can now count on a truly high performance control system».

I VANTAGGI IN PIATTAFORMA Gli attuali I/O remoti, basati su elettronica custom (modulo CAN) saranno sostituiti dal sistema B&R di I/O modulare X20. Si tratta di un nuovo sottosistema di I/O, molto compatto e facile da installare, che offre un accesso immediato e autoguidato per la ricerca dei guasti e permette di ridurre il cablaggio all’interno della macchina.

«Il sistema X20 di B&R - spiega Machiavelli - non è più un blocco unico, come quello montato attualmente sulle nostre macchine. È possibile infatti aggiungere fino a 240 moduli, per controllare tutto ciò che vogliamo. Il concetto del nuovo sistema di I/O potrebbe essere paragonato ai “mattoncini Lego”: nel quadro elettrico della macchina si può inserire solo ciò che serve. Quando è richiesto un numero limitato di ‘slot’ di I/O,

THE PLATFORM ADVANTAGES The current remote I/Os, based on custom electronics (CAN modules) will

In the new Phoenix platform the drive motors currently used have also been changed, going from AC motors to B&R servomotors with ACOPOSmulti drives. «The brushless motors (servomotors) - Machiavelli states -

Ogni azionamento costituirà un nodo nella rete POWERLINK della macchina; pertanto, sarà possibile scambiare rapidamente un’enorme quantità di informazioni fra il controllore, gli azionamenti e i modulo di I/O. Tali dati saranno immediatamente disponibili per statistiche, diagnostica, manutenzione ecc.

Un ulteriore vantaggio del sistema B&R è la completa programmabilità in automatico: quando la macchina viene accesa, il PC esegue tutti i controlli e gli aggiornamenti richiesti, scarica i parametri negli azionamenti e, se necessario, è possibile sostituire un modulo in qualsiasi apparecchiatura: in questo caso, il lavoro del tecnico di assistenza si limita a una semplice sostituzione fisica.

Tutto questo si traduce in un risparmio di tempo e in una diminuzione significativa ■ dei fermi macchina.

Each drive constitutes a node in the POWERLINK network of the machine; thus, an enormous quantity of information will be able to be exchanged between the controller, the drives and the I/O module. These figures will be immediately available for statistics, diagnostics, maintenance etc. A further advantage of the B&R system is its complete automatic programmability: when the machine is turned on, the PC carries out all the checks and updates required, downloads the parameters in the drives and, if required, can also replace a module in any device: in this case, the work of the service technician is limited to the simple physical replacement. All this entails savings in time and an important ■ reduction in machine stoppages.
