Grove City was one of the few undefeated teams left in District 10 in mid-November when the Eagles ran into Sharon in the District 10 Class 3A title game. The Eagles’ senior class finished 32-4 over its final three seasons. Grove City had eight first-team all-region selections and five second teamers. Most of those players are gone, however, as the Eagles were hit hard by graduation. Among the players lost is all-time passer in school history Brady Callahan, who threw for 2,660 yards and 28 touchdowns as a senior. He finished with 4,354 yards and 43 touchdowns in his career, while one of his favorite targets, Logan Lutz, is also gone. Lutz had 75 catches for 1,264 yards and 16 touchdowns and had one of the all-time careers for a receiver in District 10 history with 199 receptions for 3,153 yards and 37 touchdowns. Grove City graduated leading rusher Tyler Greer (1,062 yards, 15 touchdowns) and several defensive standouts as well. The Eagles bring back five starters on offense and five on defense. Lance Craig and Matt Howard return on the offensive and defensive lines. Colby Nelson is back at running back and linebacker after he ran for 867 yards and 13 TDs as a junior. Daiveon Say and Jake Reddick are returning starters at receiver and defensive back. Junior Logan Breese is also back after backing up Callahan under center last year. Breese will likely take over at quarterback. Curtis Hovis, Kendel Hollen and Zack Martin could be in the mix for carries, while Zach Rodgers could compete for time at wide receiver and Challen Estes, Max Myford, Gage Dlugonski, Nate Wadsworth and Jacob Blair on the line. Grove City put together one of its best threeyear runs in school history, but massive graduation losses will be tough to overcome. The Eagles have built a strong program, and underclassmen stepping up this year will be key in putting together another winning season.
