Sharon made its way to the PIAA Class 3A semifinals last fall before losing to PIAA champion Aliquippa. The Tigers put together an impressive 10-win season, including a 23-6 win over Grove City for the District 10 title. Sharon will be under new leadership this fall as assistant coach Jason McElhaney takes over for Jim Wildman. McElhaney was the head coach at West Middlesex from 2007-12 and has been an assistant coach at Hickory and Hubbard (Ohio) before the past few years with the Tigers. Sharon has a solid group back but will have to overcome the graduation of Jordan Wilson, Frank Shaffer, Dorian Jefferson, Josh Torr, Jordan Volpe, Dakota Burnett, Luke Gaston and Warren Nixon. Wilson ran for 1,929 yards and 26 touchdowns as a senior. Torr is a big loss on defense after leading the Tigers with 107 tackles last year. Sharon returns five starters on offense and seven on defense. One of the biggest weapons coming back is quarterback Lane Voytik. He passed for 2,757 yards and 28 TDs as a junior and is over 5,500 career passing yards. Voytik’s favorite target, C.J. Parchman, is back after hauling in 74 passes for 1,105 yards and 11 TDs last year. Ty Eilam, who caught 58 passes for 644 yards and seven TDs, is also back. Eilam led the Sharon secondary with four interceptions. The Tigers bring back Aaron Allenbaugh, Tommy Dawson, Noah Weese and Noah Kubyako on the line along with Braelin Hawkins, Tyvell Richardson and Brady Ortiz at running back. Trey Jones and Marcel Smith-Austin return at wide receiver and defensive back for Sharon. The Tigers have developed a potent offense and defense over the past few years. Sharon lost skilled players to graduation, but the Tigers look like a tough team to stop from winning another D-10 title. Sharon has one of the top passers in D-10 with a strong receiving corps and a new but familiar coach to lead the way.
