2018 RESULTS

Sharpsville put together another impressive season under longtime coach Paul Piccirilli, who went over 200 career wins and is the active leader in wins among District 10 coaches. The Blue Devils’ only losses last fall came to PIAA Class 2A runner-up Wilmington and OHSAA Division 5 quarterfinalist Manchester from Akron. Sharpsville brings back seven starters on both sides of the ball, but the Blue Devils had some big graduation losses, including Virginia recruit JaQuay Hubbard, one of the top linemen in the state, along with quarterback Nick Alexander and running back Kobe Joseph. The three leave big holes to fill along with fellow all-region selections Luke Levis (wide receiver, defensive back), Max Messett (wide receiver), Joe Bornes (tight end, defensive line), Drew Gordon (defensive line), Michael Herman (kicker) and Ben Henwood (defensive back). Alexander threw for 2,234 yards and 21 touchdowns last fall. Joseph ran for 1,196 yards and 24 touchdowns and Levis caught 48 passes for 693 yards and seven TDs. Bornes had 25 catches for 452 yards and three TDs, while Joseph caught 23 passes for 249 yards and four TDs and Messett had 22 catches for 429 yards and four TDs. Sharpsville returns Tristan Besser and Chayse Stevens-Luchey at running back, Danny Henwood at quarterback, Brandon Hopson at wide receiver and Wyatt Caldwell, Tyler Clary, Aaron and Josh Stephenson on the line on offense. The returning defensive starters include the Stephensons at linebacker, Caldwell and Devin McCurry on the line and Besser, Hopson, Henwood and StevensLuchey in the secondary. Sharpsville had a great 2018 season, but the Blue Devils will have to nearly start over this year with most of their offensive weapons gone to graduation. The Blue Devils will have to rely on several senior leaders, including Caldwell, Clary and Josh Stephenson.
