Eisenhower went 2-8 last fall, but that record could be deceiving when breaking down the season. The Knights lost five games by eight points or fewer, including 46-44 to Union City, 19-13 to Mercer, 37-34 to Northwestern, 14-6 to Cambridge Springs and 6-0 to Reynolds. Those games were the difference in a two-win season and a winning season. Eisenhower will have some key players to replace this fall. The Knights graduated five all-region players in Garrett Head (wide receiver, linebacker), Joe Bauer (offensive line/defensive line), Ethan Chambers (linebacker, running back), Riley West (defensive back) and Jeremy Card (offensive line). Chambers led Eisenhower with 1,205 yards and 16 touchdowns on 200 carries and caught 21 passes for 267 yards and one touchdown last year, while Head caught 19 passes for 287 yards and three touchdowns. Eisenhower brings back five starters on offense and five on defense. Owen Trumbull emerged as a solid quarterback last year and is back along with Zane Alexander at tailback, Cael Black at fullback, Jared Beers at tight end and Brodie Porter at tackle. Trumbull threw for 833 yards and seven touchdowns in a breakout sophomore season and Black ran for 203 yards and two touchdowns as a freshman. The Knights’ defense returns Black at defensive end, Dillon Benson at linebacker and Caleb Robinault, Alexander and Trumbull in the secondary. Eisenhower lost its top four tacklers to graduation, but Alexander is back after making 42 tackles last year. Benson returns after getting two sacks. Eisenhower has some work to do to fill some holes on both sides of the ball. Logan Abbott, Trevor Welker, Gannon Jaquay, Mike Jones and Connor Younger could all compete for playing time as new and younger players. The Knights lost six games last year when they were within six points in the fourth quarter, including two overtime games. While replacing graduation losses is important, Eisenhower will also need to learn to finish games to make a run in the region race and district playoffs.
