Despite an offseason injury to quarterback Bryce McCloskey, Reynolds put together its first winning season since 2012 with six wins. The sixth win was a shutout of Maplewood in the District 10 Class 1A playoffs. Reynolds brings back an experienced team, especially at the skill positions. McCloskey is also back after recovering from his seasonending injury and could be an impact player for the Raiders. Reynolds will have some work to do rebuilding the offensive and defensive lines with the graduation of Wyatt Owen, Hunter Jones and Chance Westover. Reynolds brings back most of its offense, including Sean O’Hara, who took over for McCloskey last season. The two could battle for snaps under center in camp, or one could move to another position. O’Hara ran for 530 yards and five touchdowns and threw for 480 yards and four TDs last fall. Leading rusher Jordan DeCarmen, Cole Toy and Hunter Markle are back at running back, while Zander Winkle and Luca Tofani return at wide receiver. DeCarmen ran for 970 yards and 10 TDs last year. Evan Miller, Rocco Daniello and Luke Faber are returning linemen and Aidan Mull is moving to tight end to replace Westover. The Raiders’ defense returns Faber at defensive end, Toy at linebacker, Clayton Rhoades and Tofani at cornerback and DeCarmen and O’Hara at safety. The Raiders will need several younger players to fill in on the defensive line and at linebacker as well. Reynolds has steadily been on the brink of a winning season, as the Raiders continued to win four or five games in recent years. Reynolds took a step forward last year not only with six wins but a playoff win as well. The Raiders have a lot of talent back, and if they can find a way to utilize O’Hara and McCloskey while filling holes on the line, they’ll be a tough team to beat in Region 1.
